Agreed. They went too far with what seemed like to many emotions. It seemed like "I will show emotion #1, then I will show emotion #2, now, emotion #3 ..." It didn't feel natural for the context of the situation. Instead keeping most of the existing emotional expression but with added the eye movement of Luke looking around the room to assess who's there, smile/emote more to invite Grogu, move the eyes more to look over Grogu (and back & forth him & Mando), then scan the room again before leaving would have been a winner. But then again, for each advancement in technology & technique, we become better able at detecting it & the flaws, so even those things would stop tricking us after a while.

It's definitely superior, the reason it may look videogame is the sparks and saturated highlights are a bit too intense and are slightly off in where the lightning is located. Not much, but just enough to still feel strange, and as they said it's still about 10% Dean seeping through. The crispness of the face is probably due to some sort of correction by their render making it look just a bit more crisp than the normal footage, missing a slight bit of motion blur or something. Videogames look very crisp in their renders like that, so maybe a very minor amount of blur here and there when his head moves could correct that.

I think they both looked bad. As in if I never watched starwars before and didn't know who Mark Hamill was, I would still be immediatley able to tell this is a poorly done computer generated image. Even video games make better looking and more believable characters. This isn't a criticism of the small crew that these guys had, but I am criticizing Disney. The question is clearly, why? Why would a company with seemingly infinite resources do such a poor job? I think it is because they are so sophisticated now, with how well they can actually imitate people, they don't want to raise questions like, "Is anything I am watching on TV or the internet real?" Disney owns a bunch of news networks now, so they do have conflicting interest. If you want to see something funny, check out Sassy justice on YT. You can see how well they can fake people with open source tech. The only conclusion one can draw is that Luke looks poorly conjured by design.

As a girl who loves makeup, a huge problem I noticed with the Crew's version is that they didn't recolor his NECK correctly! So it made it more obvious that they stitched the face on another guy because the neck colors just didn't match. Like switch Wren and Nico's faces (super extreme example, I know the face structure needs to match up) but give us a video where someone is deepfaked but we don't know who until the end. And, not a video telling us that someone is faked at the beginning. Just a regular video that we then have to go back and watch again to catch it. The reason for this challenge is I'm wondering if our minds automatically see "uncanny valley" because we already know we are going to be looking at something fake. But if we have no idea there is a "fake face" our eyes may not catch it. Let's see what the comments may say about that...

The VFX guys would absolutely love this and respect it. The management would be straight onto their legal team for a takedown request.

8 seconds and you know Luke is in the Mandalorian. Got this spoiled like two months ago when this came out while I had just watched like 4 episodes.

@@lui472 Yeah and on top of it, they titled the video that they made a better cgi version, yet the one on The Mandalorian looks WAYYY better than their live action video game looking non-sense. Don’t mean to be so harsh to them, but when you have a title like that thinking that you made a better deepfake, or cgi version, people are gonna really compare.
