From a VFX artist, both versions definitely have their strong points - the original has more of a photorealism feel despite it's flaws as outlined by many. The Corridor's version definitely dynamic and full of emotion - a valiant attempt! Great job all around!

Agreed, this was sharper, but I dont think this is "better". This one has a bit more uncanny valley feel to me as what Disney did looks more photorealistic even if it is less sharp (the sharpness actually adds a cgi/high quality video game feel to me as opposed to making it more real), but it still is impressive what these guys did, even if I disagree with the clickbait "better" claim.

Agreed. They went too far with what seemed like to many emotions. It seemed like "I will show emotion #1, then I will show emotion #2, now, emotion #3 ..." It didn't feel natural for the context of the situation. Instead keeping most of the existing emotional expression but with added the eye movement of Luke looking around the room to assess who's there, smile/emote more to invite Grogu, move the eyes more to look over Grogu (and back & forth him & Mando), then scan the room again before leaving would have been a winner. But then again, for each advancement in technology & technique, we become better able at detecting it & the flaws, so even those things would stop tricking us after a while.

It's definitely superior, the reason it may look videogame is the sparks and saturated highlights are a bit too intense and are slightly off in where the lightning is located. Not much, but just enough to still feel strange, and as they said it's still about 10% Dean seeping through. The crispness of the face is probably due to some sort of correction by their render making it look just a bit more crisp than the normal footage, missing a slight bit of motion blur or something. Videogames look very crisp in their renders like that, so maybe a very minor amount of blur here and there when his head moves could correct that.

Guys. It's inevitable that the one on the show will look more professional because it's by Disney themselves, but given Corridor's budget here, I find it much more impressive. I think they both looked bad. As in if I never watched starwars before and didn't know who Mark Hamill was, I would still be immediatley able to tell this is a poorly done computer generated image. Even video games make better looking and more believable characters. This isn't a criticism of the small crew that these guys had, but I am criticizing Disney. The question is clearly, why? Why would a company with seemingly infinite resources do such a poor job? I think it is because they are so sophisticated now, with how well they can actually imitate people, they don't want to raise questions like, "Is anything I am watching on TV or the internet real?" Disney owns a bunch of news networks now, so they do have conflicting interest. If you want to see something funny, check out Sassy justice on YT. You can see how well they can fake people with open source tech. The only conclusion one can draw is that Luke looks poorly conjured by design.

There exists CGI you cant tell is CGI. You might not know it, b/c its too good to notice. Even trained experience pros wont notice. As a girl who loves makeup, a huge problem I noticed with the Crew's version is that they didn't recolor his NECK correctly! So it made it more obvious that they stitched the face on another guy because the neck colors just didn't match. (The reason someone who likes makeup would notice this is because we always put foundation on our necks to ensure that the color and tone are consistent.)

@@digitaldazzle5836 Like a previous commenter mentioned, they did this with some random guy they found around the office and no funding. Disney could hire a look alike, pay someone to master Mark Hamill’s facial expressions, and put much more time and money into this. I think you guys are technically really good at what you do. The problem you have is that you need to practice more restraint. You get too excited about adding flashing lights which ends up being more distracting than helping connect the foreground object with the background. Add one or two flashes instead of a dozen and your shots will look better.

Your deep fake was a little bit more plasticky so it indeed looked a bit more like a CG model, but I think a tiny color adjustment and a slightly different reflection layer would make it just perfect! That's why I prefer by a little the edit of the original, but the movement and the scene of yours is intensely more detailed! Great job!
@Roulettesplay

It's the wig. Usually you give a wig some dry shampoo and a few other tricks to get rid of the "fake hair" look. Also, to me at least, the neck was distracting in it's mis-matched length. The green screening was also a little rough and at least for me, pulled him out of the scene into his own "layer" on top of things.

I want to issue a challenge to Corridor Crew. Make a deepfake that we don't know where the deepfake is. Like switch Wren and Nico's faces (super extreme example, I know the face structure needs to match up) but give us a video where someone is deepfaked but we don't know who until the end. And, not a video telling us that someone is faked at the beginning. Just a regular video that we then have to go back and watch again to catch it. The reason for this challenge is I'm wondering if our minds automatically see "uncanny valley" because we already know we are going to be looking at something fake. But if we have no idea there is a "fake face" our eyes may not catch it. Let's see what the comments may say about that...
