Tommy, you should of pulled the shift lever over to the left to prevent from going above 4th gear towing heavy. That would raise your rpm on the flat, but over all you would get better mpg and put less strain on the transmission. I'm sure the elevation is the main reason for your loss of power. What size tires are you running now? 285/60R18 is the standard size, and on my 2009 switching to factory size KO2's D load you can tell they have slight more drag than factory tires. If you have larger diameter tires, KO2's, and lifted you with certainly have more power losses unless you re-gear. The Land Cruiser has a 3.90 rear where as the Tundra most likely has 4.30's or 4.10's. If you had 4.30's in the cruiser it would tow pretty well despite the shorter wheel base.

I don’t understand how some companies cannot make reliable cars. Is it because they cut corners? Or are their cars engineered to fail so that consumers will buy the next one? If companies like Toyota and Chevy can build rigs that run strong and tow for hundreds of thousands of miles with no major issues what stops companies like Land Rover and Alf’s Romeo from building reliable cars? I mean even Audi has gotten their act together. To me, the most important aspect of a “quality” vehicle is dependability. So when reviewers talk about the “build quality” of brands, any brand that cannot product a army of robust vehicles should automatically be considered crap. What good is an Alcántara headliner when your vehicle shits to bed before 30,000 miles. Kudos to Toyota and Honda and Ford and GM form making decent freaking vehicles.
@captaintf77595 жыл бұрын
Engineered to fail. That is the whole principle behind the leasing idea. The idea being that because most people are changing cars after two or three years and don’t need that sort of dependability makes it easier to build a car that will be dead after a few years

@bcatz4545 жыл бұрын
@@Crashryding have had 100 and the 200. I'm over here in America and with the ways our motorways are, and towing at 115-130kph to get anywhere, the LC isn't great for towing relative to what else is out there in the pickup truck market. And yes I know what a 79 Series is, while it is an amazing vehicle, a 79 as a dedicated tow rig would wear me out quick and make me deaf.
@anthonymrskipt92525 жыл бұрын
I agree that the LC200 is certainly capable of towing (boat trailer that pushes 6000 fully loaded), but would not be my first choice if I towed regularly. The short wheelbase (vs a pick-up) is an issue, but I have not had a problem with my trailer, but then I don’t really tow often at all. Since the LC gets crappy mileage with no trailer, you can imagine the mileage with a trailer! The size of the fuel tank seems to be the one oversight that I’ve identified, but I’m not quite a year in. Nice to have the capability, but towing is definitely not the reason to buy an LC.
@bcatz4545 жыл бұрын
@@anthonymrskipt9252 100% with you on that. My experience with 100 and 200, I'd get about 160-200 miles per tank before needing to fill up again. Motor and drivetrain are stout, more so than a lot of 1500 series pickups, but 192" wheelbase is where it falls short but is nice on the trail.

Mercedes had really impressive build quality during the Daimler-Benz era. The w123 chassis is so popular still because it is a cheaper car in the Mercedes lineup. They are very practical and have many of the features that the w126 S class did. The OM617 diesel is a very reliable engine. There's nothing electronic on that diesel. The car will keep running even if you lose all electricity. As far as why they have earned the reputation as being so great is because many people think that they will run forever with no maintenance. However, that cannot be farther from the truth. Just like any other car, they will run if little to no maintenance is done, but they will progressively get worse. They need to be maintained if you want a completely reliable car and keep the engine healthy. Why do I know this? I have a w126 and have put about $2,000 in fixing things that the previous owner didn't know about. When they are in really good condition they are amazing cars and are very enjoyable to both own and drive. They are tough cars, but when they get the attention they beg for, they return the favor by being super reliable and comfortable.
