We Messed Up This Time

We messed up and then our pet kunekune pig took off. Hope and I spent the day putting up an acre electric fence around our pig and horse pen so they can all have a place to graze. We let the pig out and she took off.

Hope when I was your age I would follow my dad everywhere and help him, at 85 years old to 90 with his dementia I brought him to live with me he remembered all the things we did together I was so grateful for the memories with him. ❤️ Your so sweet hanging out with your dad and so helpful. This little piggy named Pearl jumped right through the middle of it and this little piggy Percy didn’t get out at all! 😂 Hope is a sweetheart and she’s sure rocking that female tool belt!!! Hope you need your own set of PINK tools!!! I got my own drill recently at 56 and it’s PINK and I LOVE IT!! It’s also not as heavy as a man’s drill but you know what ?! It does everything I need it to do! Keep up teaching Hope because she’s a smart young lady!🥰❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦

Dutch that is Poison oak on that tree next to the pigs. It has five leaves. It’s not as poisonous as poison ivy but some people are really allergic to it! Love watching you do your different jobs. 👍‼️🐓👏💕🌸🥰. 👵🏻

It may not be as bad as PI for some people, but I can tell you my sister suffered through weeks of terrible Poison Oak a number of times when she was a kid. It was the absolute worst!

5 leaves looks like ivy at a distance, but is likely Virginia creeper. Non poisonous. There are some out there that have allergies to it, but it's not poison.

I am allergic to poison ivy and oak. What's worse is I am allergic to calemine lotion. I learned that in sixth grade and it was painful and I wound up in the hospital. No fun especially when it was just before Christmas and your birthday and the rash covered your face. I don't remember many pictures being taken that year.

That's called Virginia Creeper not Poison oak. Ivy is found on the east coast and Oak on the west coast, Just remember poison leaflets of three let it be. Virginia Creeper is non poisonous but not edible and has 5 leafs.

Love seeing you working with the girls, they learn so much. We have horses and our interior fence is all hot wire. I found the poly tape stretches in the wind and can actually take out your post. We have used the poly twine. Much easier and a lot better contact to keep our horses and dogs in. And it's Cheaper. We actually use it camping with our horses. And the poly twine can be twisted at the post to get rid of slack. You'll get it.

The only way we could keep pigs in was with electric goat fence. Otherwise they kept running at it and getting between the strands. They knew it would only sting until they were through it.

If you put a little four foot section in their pen for a week before sending them out on it they will be trained to respect it.

Hey guys, that weed she gave to the pigs was poke weed, we actually eat it here cooked in eastern KY. We even have a local festival surrounding it, but raw it's highly toxic to humans, I don't know about pigs.

Based on other videos about pigs I have seen, it looks like they need to be trained to the fence inside their main enclosure first, before can be let out into an electric fence only system. Once they learn to respect the strands, they will stay away from it no matter where they see it. Justin Rhodes and Al Lumnah have great videos on training pigs to electric fencing. Your friend at Gold Shaw farms is trying to work with pigs in electric fencing too (although he did not does do it as well as Justin and Al). I would also think the fencing for pigs and horses might be widely different so I would try setting up a different system in the mini horses area to have them train on.

I made a typo. I meant to type goats. He has a list of all the stuff he used to set up his hot wired fence. He is using metal "T" posts and special clamps to hold the wire in place. There is another pulley thing for tightening the wire. He created an alley pasture to move his many goats every few days to not over graze any one area.

Pearl is a smart piggy! 😂 You might need two electric boxes to get enough voltage and you might be able to get them to pulse opposite of each other. When you hook them up I would hook a bottom one up and the 3rd one up to one then hook the second strand up to the second one and top one, maybe turn them on at separate times to make them pulse opposite of each other. Just a few suggestions. I just love how Bobby spreads his feathers out. He's absolutely gorgeous! I think Percy was upset he didn't get to get out! Hope sure is a big helper! Pigs need to learn to respect an electric strand inside a woven or board fence before going out. They tend to run forward when shocked instead of backing off like cattle. Fence needs to be two strand. Nose high and higher at first…. Later one strand works once they respect an electric fence.

Nice fence building and great help from Hope. Thanks. It will take a little training on the pigs. My dad used just a wire on the bottom about 6 inches off the ground. Sometimes they would root around and bury the wire shorting it out. Then walking out. But in those days no such thing as poly tape.
