In manga the translation for makima scene was like a marriage vows, "We'll be working together until death do us apart" or something like that

Personally, i thought it was quite ominous (which in hindsight it was, but during my first manga reading it really made me suspicious). She says in this episode "work together until the day YOU die." Which invokes the thought of yeah, Denji will die before her and the way she says it makes it sound more like a fact.

Denji and Yuuji Itadori from JJK are similar in a sense that both can be described as the protagonist with an inner demon, but they are handled so differently. Itadori is more archetypical in a sense that it's a morally upstanding character who has to draw power from a morally dubious inner demon and tension comes from the anticipation of whether the inner demon takes over. Yuuji in itself isn't a very interesting character, his only defining trait really is his outright suicidal form of altruism where he has no regard for his own life whatsoever, very similar to the protagonist of Fate/Stay Night. His character is propped up by the fact that Sukuna is established to be both absolutely evil and powerful enough that the reader will continue to regard his takeover as a threat. Denji's and Pochita's dynamic is vastly different. Pochita is established to be benevolent, passive and his power isn't corrupting in nature. Denji's adolescence is defined by neglect and abuse, which has left him immature and juvenile on multiple levels. The dramatic tension comes from the fact that it's a coming-of-age story for a character who both isn't expected to know to do the right thing and there is no character who is expected to act as the voice of reason.
