Dig the area of the fence out and add some more fencing down into the ground like you have the rest of the area, gotta be better than some rocks to keep predators out.

Either that or pack it in with rocks and then put fill dirt on top and pack it all in. That gap in the fence is just asking for a coyote to come through. Coyotes will circle and search for the easiest spot to get in if it smells food.

When I was young in the 80's it was super rare to even see a yote while hunting deer. Now they are every place have packs of 30 or more raid they garbage left buy people on holiday weeks. Now when a serin goes off from an emergency response vehicle they howl for an hour after. We were once surrounded by them 25-30 coming back to camp from deer hunting we did not get a deer but we got pheasants, they just kept circling and nipping at your legs from behind. We point the guns at them the ones in front would scatter and the back ones would charge. They wanted the birds, we cleaned the birds and put the hides out to dry and they came up on a three-story porch and took the hides that night. We set out to hunt for them after that and never got one. graveyard

In the uk people are putting lama/alpaca’s in with sheep to protect from foxes. This may be a animal you’d consider getting

Coyotes can easily scale a 8 foot fence, even up to 14 feet if they can get a foot hold. We all have seen dogs especially smaller agile ones easily scale high fences. Once they can’t find food on the other properties they will search other homes. They will,probably go after easier yards, but don’t think yours are completely safe by fences or animal smells. Some of the animals may help deter, but some may also be traumatized. Really consider a Hotwire at night.

i agree with @chrisjoneslovell9505 a lama or alpaca would be a natural defender against coyote's. sadly here in Canada the Coyote's and Wolves have gotten together and made "coy-wolves" a hybrid between the 2, they are larger then a coyote, and can do a lot of damage.

I live in Arizona and coyotes jump the 6 ft fences all the time and if they haven't had a meal in a while they will even fight to death

I mean tbh a motivated coyote is able to climb over that fence BUT that said it would likely go for that hole instead as it's an easier option. Rather then filling it in, which will just encourage it to climb the fence instead I'd leave the hole and put a snare in there instead. As you aren't actively wanting the thing dead as long as it doesn't cause problems for you you don't need to bait it. Just leave it there so the coyote has to go through it to get through the hole. So you know that the only way you get it killed is because it was fully intending on coming into your yard to kill your animals so you don't have that on your conscious. Plus they actually aren't native to Florida anyway, if I remember correctly it was in the 70s when they first arrived there. That said if it was me I'd be baiting a whole bunch of snares as I'd want the thing dead.

I really liked what you said and I feel the same way. The coyotes have a right to live and everyone has to eat. They are just doing what they were born to do. It's up to people to protect their property as best as they can. Hopefully the coyote will find themselves plenty of rabbits and mice to eat.

I thought Mules protected livestock. I personally have seen one take out a mountain lion for going after livestock. Never heard of a donkey tho. I also dont think dog poop matters, considering they are killing animals in their yards right now where i live and in all areas of LA

I have seen my two emus stomp a coyote until it left. And they are normally super friendly. Your emus should be fine against one coyote.

Oliver’s male scent will do nothing to deter a hungry animal. Even the dogs scents unless they are outside won’t deter a hungry animal. Coyotes have canines they can very easily tear through a net or wire unless it’s hardware wire, chicken wire won’t keep anything out. Ever seen a dog eat through a wall, door or couch? Only way to be really safe is a livestock dog and or hot wire on the top of fences. Like I said dog scents may keep deer away? But not a coyote if hungry.

Why don’t you look at getting a guardian dog breed like a Caucasian shepherd. They’re bred to protect your livestock from any predator. Like wolves, coyotes etc. very gentle breed but fiercely protective.
