To be fair, these informations are not linked back to your personal information. BetterHelp can be an incredible oppotunity to gather data for research which helps improve interventions and more precise diagnosis and uncovering comorbidities. As the data is anonymized it is just the same as participating in experiments / filling out questionnaires and signing a consent form. Which you do by signing up to the website and agree to the terms & conditions. The site should include an option to choose if you want your data to be shared anonymously to help research. Obviously they don't collect the data to give you targeted ads because of your symptoms of PTSD, burnout or whatever.

This is an *actual* review left by a client on their website and it was so ridiculous I didn't know whether I should laugh or be furious. "I had my first session with BetterHelp while the counselor was grocery shopping. I heard quite a bit of background noise at first but thought it was a bad connection. It was not until she was at the cashier that I heard the beeps as each item was rung in. When the cashier asked for coupons, the call basically ended. After that, I asked for another counselor since I already paid. We scheduled an appointment for a phone session that he never bothered to call into or reply to my messages. I am trying to get a refund to no avail." Imagine calling your "online therapist" and being ready to pour your soul out and tell them everything you're going through, expecting to feel better at the end of the call, just to hear your "therapist" *grocery shopping* and hanging up on you when the cashier asks if they want any coupons.

Even in real life, I had some serious childhood issues I needed to confront that were holding me back as a husband and father and I had to visit 4 therapists before I found one who didnt just tell me what I wanted to hear and helped me get the courage to change my perspective and take responsibility for the things that I wanted to blame on others and helped me resolve the issues that weren't in my control. My heart goes out to the people who continue to see the glorified enablers masquerading as therapists twice a week for years paying tens of thousands of dollars to be told how they are simultaneously the hero and victim of their own story. I saw my therapist twice a month for 4 months, she gave me homework and excersizes that I had to complete before the next session or she wouldnt see me and it changed my life forever.

They can be. I mean, a new doctor may do what is right at the start. But time will come that they will need the money and they may start prolonging confinements and selling placebo (placebo is used and is effective for some mental illnesses but i think it is fishy to make money out of it). Same to reporters. You may do what is right, then pressure kicks in. So yeah, I hate mainstream. But I don't blame the players, I blame the game.

From a person who struggles with anxiety and depression and who actually pays to see real therapists face to face, I respect you all the more Felix for this video. It should have been common sense to see through this scam, but you're one of the few who did and who had enough integrity to not take part in it. So as they say, "common sense ain't so common." Thank you so much for not shying away from expressing your opinions to so many people, even if it means going against the grain and exposing yourself to the vitriol of some. I truly think you are inspiring a lot of young people to cling to their dignity ever stronger in the face of hardship - and you can be sure I'll remember you through this lens rather than that of some og gaming youtuber.

This was a great video, Felix. Some days, I am plain shocked at how grounded you really are. This is a good message, and matches my thoughts on all this Better Health stuff PERFECTLY. People see you as the joker, the crazy 'youtuber guy', and that's how I saw you, years back - but you have a real maturity, where I actually watch your news videos and while you often come from a place of humor, parody, satire, etc...what you say is often CORRECT. I like that you aren't just attacking people on this, but are making people aware of the issues here. Respect.

Can we have this resurface on KZbin?? It is still so relevant as there are still so much Betterhelp advertisement.
@jarrodcornelius62376 ай бұрын
It's remarkable to witness the extensive reach of Google/KZbin in the digital realm. Teladoc Health, the parent company of BetterHelp, seems to have a significant advertising presence on these platforms, yet the exact extent of their financial relationship remains a mystery. This partnership extends beyond mere advertising revenue; Teladoc actively collaborates with Google, leveraging data obtained through Google's Fit App & Teladoc openly acknowledges its use of Google Analytics for user insights. Despite Teladoc and BetterHelp's admission to selling customer data, their apps continue to be readily available on Google Play. This situation raises significant ethical concerns, particularly given Google's considerable wealth and influence. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when corporate interests supersede user privacy and transparency.

I tried BetterHelp because of my depression (etc.) and because I currently have no time to look for/see a therapist. Also, traditional therapy is expensive. I watched so many youtubers suggest it, and honestly, it sounded great. Well, I got matched with a therapist and she wanted to call me right away. Which was a really good sign to me! On the phone call, her responses were really delayed, she said “um” a lot and sounded very distracted. It felt like she was doing something else as we were talking and it made me feel like I was interrupting her lol. The next phone session was exactly the same, just very clearly not paying attention. That was a week ago. She hasn’t set up a phone session since. She barely reaches out to me, so I reached out to her in a few long, detailed messages about my days. I wish I could post a screen shots of her response on here. It was literally 5 words, didn’t seem professional, nor did it have much feedback which is what I’m paying her for lol. She then assigned me a therapy “worksheet” that had nothing to do with what I was speaking to her about, which goes back to her just not paying attention to what I was saying. I told her that the worksheet didn’t pertain to me and she said “well, you don’t have to do it”. I decided to cancel my sessions thinking since I am cancelling so early in the month, I would be refunded for half the month or more because I did not want to use the service anymore. This was not the case. I was charged the full month upon signing up (which I was aware of once I signed up) and they told me I could utilize the therapy for the remainder of the month. I guess my counselor must have noticed my cancellation, because she hasn’t reached out to me since. I messaged her yesterday to ask for her guidance on certifying my dog to be a therapy dog.....to at least get SOME benefit out of this debacle and she literally said “Not really. I would just google it.”

Wow! And how unfortunate, because I'm sure some people would like to utilize this opportunity to speak with someone. As you have said about yourself. I would suggest NOT continuing to use the service and just think of it as a learning lesson. These people can do more harm then good, because had some been on the brink...and talked with her and she act as another uncaring person to them, or had they felt like "oh see I am just bothering people", then that's another life lost.

I don't think online therapy is good for anyone because it is SO easy to lie over text. The main reason I'm doing so well with my own therapy is because when my therapist asks me a question, she can see my physical, immediate reaction and thus she can poke and prod and find out what's actually wrong. I once tried to lie about having a mental break down but, when she asked "what happened?" my shoulders tensed _just a little_ and she immediately knew I was about to lie. If you're just texting or calling, your therapist can't see your "tells" and you're just wasting your money and time.

I know seeing some of your older content where you twerk on camera and even some of the things you do nowadays may make this statement seem ridiculous. But you have truly become a role model for me, being one of the most transparent people I have ever seen, outside and inside of the internet. And also using your position on this platform, not to better yourself, but to genuinely discuss topics that interest you such as AI or inform the community on important subjects such as this. Whereas others would find it easy to sell themselves out to this easy cash cow called BetterHelp without looking into it much, you always keep to your morals and apologize when you mess up and you also learn from it. These are qualities that I see in you which I am currently working on myself, so thank you Felix, I will always be part of the Bro/9-year-old Army!

@@SillySugarGliders yes, it is sometimes. I just moved to another city and the mental health system is messed up. Can’t find a therapist under 180 dollars without insurance. Wow, this is terrible. They're literally preying upon the most vulnerable people to make money off of them and potentially causing more trauma to their lives with the lack of actual professional help and no guarantees. Plus, for costs that high, I really don't think online help is even worth it... Hopefully this makes a lot of KZbinrs back out of partnership with them.
@Milestone-Equestrian6 жыл бұрын
@Zura you're assuming that everyone has access to the same resources. Coming from a point of desperation, people will try what they can afford even if it isnt best case scenario From a business standpoint it is up to the company not to advertise in a way that makes it sound like they are at part or almost at par with legitimate therapist
@ahm42276 жыл бұрын
Zura But googling symptoms doesn’t cost that much.
@refinnej53026 жыл бұрын
@Zura, but why isn't it the best option for some people? It's better than none at all as long as the therapist has proper education and training in the field and knows when to refer the patient to another specialist. How different is it from sitting in front of a therapist in their office compared to talking to them on the phone or through video chats? There is nothing physical that they need to see about the person so your comparison to someone googling a physical ailment is apples and oranges. Yes, there are some cues that can be picked up through nonverbal communication that a therapist can pick up when face to face but someone working through this type of service should have training to learn to pick up on other cues that they are able to pick up on. Of course, it's not for everyone, but that doesn't mean it's for no one.
