It's got the small oval ports. If you can find some big oval ports it could make over 300 hp. You can also put the big 2.19/1.88 values in the big oval port heads and make some great hp.

A good solid relatively inexpensive setup is just put pistons in it to get it to 10:1 (they will be like a 250 dome) flat tops with an open chamber head is 7.5:1. But anyway get a cam that is in the 230 to 240 @.050 range with a decent intake and headers will get that truck into the 7's in the 1/8 mile mid to low 12's in the 1/4 on motor all day long then you can throw a 250 shot of nitrous at it and it will take it.

@@Noah_McAlister Doug Nash 4+1 where 5th is 1-2-1. 3.23 gears and 29” Micky T’s. Engine dyno’d at 500ish HP and slightly more on Torque. Think a better choice of gear would have been a 3.50 - sacrifice a little MPG for a little less rpm drop between 1st and 2nd. Also. The DNE was right at its limits and would sometimes lock between gears but when I built the car, early 90’s that was all that was available. What’s your engine combo?

Sure there is. We have these things call rpm and boost. What you can't replace is low rpm torque unless you use nitrous obviously. All that said. Nothing beats the sound of a v8 specially as they get bigger.

big blocks are definitely addictive once you get that first taste..... nothing makes the same kind of power delivery. power per dollar they cant be beat. as long as you dont have a peanut port head on it itll turn up to 6500 just fine...... skip white sells aluminum heads for about a grand a pair that are a great way to get into it on the right foot.

I had a buddy with junk yard 454 bottom end big howards flat tappet cam and some cheap eBay alluminum heads ran into low 13s in the quarter mile.

Hon the block and gap the rings. Find out which heads are on it. All you need is some big valve open chamber heads (pre 72)and some spray. Mild cam will open it up. It will rip! Two step goldie!

I don’t mean to be mean but my dads 454 say in the back of his boat with no covers in pieces for about hhmmmm 20 years and all the rust cleaned right up. As soon as you pulled the distributor I knew it was golden. Those big blocks are sometimes just use to the hurt cause they know their not worth it but kinda are. Hard to explain but when you start to build it you’ll start to see why they don’t use them for much other than sportsman and hot boats. Their headaches unless you got a 427 (ibm)

I have a 96 gmc that gets to its limiter quicker than one might think. the primitive speed limiter at 98mph sounds like a jake brake on the 5 speed. I got a good laugh watching this. Glad I keep it down to a big flowmaster. The SBC is never ending. injected or not.

As long as the heads aren't peanut port you can make some good power out of it. Get the compression to 10.5.1 add a decent cam easy 500 hp yep chuck the heads lol get 781s 049s or gen 6 big oval ports.

Whoever said that big block had 14.5.1 to 15.1 had no clue about that engine. oval port stuck heads=junk,stock cast iron intake=junk,stock manifolds=junk no one in their right mind would put that type of dome piston with all that junk.Now with that said find you some rectangular port heads with a good signal plane intake 11.5.1 pistons with a matching cam & you will fall in love with big blocks. Check out my channel & you will see how i know 427 bored out to a 440 12.5.1 compression & runs on 93 octane.

Why my s10 has a 509 bbc in it. Just a torque monster engine . reason why guys still run them . and a studded 2 bolt is very stout . made 800+ hp on a studded 2 bolt bbc or carefully splay mains to 4 bolt.

With the 6AL box, its literally just plugging the 2 step box into that and hooking up a switched power and ground to it to activate. He was done before I even had a chance to get the camera out lol
