Every time Jalen Brunson receives a compliment from anyone but a Knicks fan it's followed by some sort of disparaging thing like "He can't take them to a finals" or "He's not a true first option" or "He can't play defense." His defensive rating is 117.1, placing him in the spot just better than Steph and Dame, and is averaging 1.1 steals. He's a perfectly adequate defender and not the liability so many people seem to think he is.

As a raptors fan, the Barnes vs Brunson conversation was interesting. He does have elite all around, especially w his 3p% going up. Also people dont talk about him as one of the most clutch players rn. 50% from 2 and 42% from 3 in 4th quarters. However, Bruson is ahead for me slightly cuz Scottie Barnes career high is 32 points. As much as we can project what he can do, Brunson is doing the thing that wins games by taking over (ie. 50 points).

i really think you guys are underrating shai. mo is cooking. i think he’s clearly better than both tatum and bron. you mentioned “point per game bias” putting him over tatum, but the thing is shai is SIGNIFICANTLY more efficient. he’s averaging 31.1 ppg on 54.3% FG. plus he’s a significantly better playmaker, and an equivalent defender being the best 2 way guard in the league. shai is my mvp pick right behind embiid right now. he’s up there dawg

I completely agree with the Embiid take. The goal of every NBA team is to construct a roster to compete for a title, plain and simple. You do not win the championship in the regular season, you win it in the playoffs. There may be 82 games in a season (which Embiid doesn’t play all of anyways because he gets hurt so much) but the 4-28 games that you can potentially play in the playoffs are what cement your legacy. It’s the reason why despite a very underwhelming career overall, Allen Iverson is held in such high regard because of what he did in his finals run.

Scottie has done none of those things. Multiple players have good 25 game stretches that doesn’t automatically make them top 30. Scottie would be lucky to be included in a top 40 list.
