When I heard them say that, I did think of you people in the US, actually. (I could/should have thought about people in other places as well, I know.) I once went to a doctor - not in a hospital but in a walk-in clinic for people with issues that aren't life-threatening emergencies but still can't wait to be looked at - with an extremely banal thing. I knew the odds were really low that it could be something that needs actual medical attention, but I was still reassured that I had done the correct thing by coming in. Since I, as a layperson, had no way to be sure that it was something completely harmless and not something that could easily lead to severe problems. I even got meds "just in case". There must be so many people who just ignore issues like that for financial reasons.

Uh..... you can go to the ER in the USA and still be treated, whether or not you have insurance. The ER doesn’t have a choice because of the EMTALA law. You have to be stabilized first before getting discharged. If you’re not stable, they have to treat you. Finances get in the way in other circumstances, and it‘a not applicable to all situations. However, if you have chest pain, you go to the ER. They have to check you; otherwise, it’s a lawsuit.

I was once hospitalized for five days, and the final bill was over $30,000. I didn't even have any surgeries or major procedures, just scans, saline drip, and basic monitoring. I'm UNBELIEVABLY lucky that I was still under my parent's insurance at the time, which was excellent and paid for most of it. I won't be so lucky next time, and most people have never been that lucky. Most of us in the US can't afford an ER trip. 30% of us are already in medical debt, even with healthcare.

Huge respect to Eddy for always being next to Brett, keeping calm and trying to do all by himself while taking care of Brett. He is truly the best friend Brett could have. If you noticed during Brett was telling the story Eddy looked super serious and I think tear eyed. You can see how much they care about each other just from that. Aside from finding the right treatment plan (which is obviously important) Brett comes across as being really happy in this video. Somebody very close to me suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome and honestly man, these debilitating illnesses can have a massive toll on mental health as well as physical so it's great to see Brett looking and sounding upbeat. I don't suppose you'll see this amongst the sea of other comments Brett but if you do, I hope you only get better from here and keep smiling mate!

Brett’s story really felt so relatable to me. Like, earlier last year I had this condition called GBS (Gillian barre syndrome) and it felt so similar to what Brett was talking abt (except that my health deteriorated a lot faster than brett’s condition) but it was similar in many ways, not being able to walk talk, or even eat or drink; just having like all your energy sucked out. Having gone through that made me really appreciate the little things that I could do as well and there was also a lot of reflection for myself. So when Brett was talking about it, I could literally resonate with every word he was saying! I’m just so glad he found his diagnosis and is better!! I’m totally well now btw :))
