I don't think it matters if it is Woody's, Alan's, a friend's or a customer's car the work quality that gets done at Alans shop is pretty hard to match even by much larger shops due to the fact Alan and crew never let anything out the door half assed. It is a true privilege to be able to watch you guys do your thing, for that I thank you.

Matt is an artist; period. Good planning makes good results. Very precise, insists upon a butt weld, knowing that lap joins are nests for corrosion. The finished product looks factory, well worth the costs.

Chopper back fenders make for great tub substitutes in the right size, if one wants to start with a clean slate. I helped a friend tub his old Mercedes and we used the biggest fender we could find. Came out really clean, factory.

Over 10 years ago I heard dum dum used for the black sticky pasty/glue. Butyl is the more correct term but I still use dum dum or "sticky black tape" for the need to stick a window vapor barrier, weather strip that don't hold or even around wire/AC lines running through a bulk head. Crazy how long the stuff lasts doing it's job.

Maryborough has some pretty cool small industries. I remember delivering a hydraulic shaft out of a dozer that had to be straightened and then hard-chromed. I picked it up in Blackwater and ran it down. Picked it up a week later. Hard-chroming is complex and I reckon it would look kick-arse on some engine and drivetrain components. It has a darker, deeper look to standard reflective chrome. And of course, is hard with the Nickel base.

I'm of the understanding that a mini-tub is to the factory frame rails and tubing is modifying the factory frame to have the wheel well go past the factory position.

Seems like if you had a small portable sand blaster, it could be good to blast all the area inside the well before you cut it and then where it's to be welded. Save finicky grinding later. I might be biased though I used to be a blaster.

hell yea. hey Al, if you want the OEM finish the in arches, use spray seam sealer, not the butal or raptor liner stuff. Seam sealer is what the OEM's use.
@SerenaBluee2 жыл бұрын
Seam sealer is different - a silicone sealant that you apply over any seams to keep moisture out. The textured rubber coating I think you mean is often referred to as "body schutz" in Europe from brands such as 3M or Wurth, or alternatively called rubberised stonechip / textured underseal.

Relatively easy to do unless the tub is part of the rear struts. Then it becomes abit of a pain in the ass. When you smooth off the seam sealer spray your fingers with rubbing alcohol. It makes for a much better finish.
