Farewell to the mountains....
"The withdrawal of the Soviet military began on 15 May 1988, under the leadership of General of the Army Valentin Varennikov. The withdrawal was complicated, however, by the rapid deterioration of the situation in Afghanistan. While the United States was not bound by any commitment to stop arms shipments and continued to supply the Afghan mujahideen in Pakistan...the mujahedeen also continued their attacks on withdrawing Soviet forces."

We're leaving is...Such a great song. I think it fits both the Americans and Soviets the same. Soldiers arent at fault for the failures. Its the Generals and Politicians , who didn't care enough about their men in the field.

It's even worse, the generals and politicians are talking about defending "womens rights" over the lives of poor American boys and the hundreds of thousands of Afghans they've bombed.

Lyrics ENG: From once subdued celestial peaks, By increments, descending to the charred ground, Through the sighted-in solvos of slander, and lies, We are leaving, leaving, leaving, leaving ... Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, Who we were in this distant land, Let them not judge biasedly, They, the desk scholars. Goodbye, Afghanistan - this ghostly world, It is not right to speak kindly of you, But there is something sad battle commander, We are leaving, leaving, leaving, leaving ... Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, What was our pain and our glory, How will you, land of Afghanistan, Atone for the tears of mothers. We are no longer destined to return, How many of us were killed on this long campaign, And it was not fully completed yet, but, We are leaving, leaving, leaving, leaving ... Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, What price was paid here to the, Enemy, that is not finished off, What of friends were left behind. Friend, a spirited (drink) ration shared by three, So many of us survived in the rapid recon battalion, The third round - even the wind died down on the slopes, We are leaving, leaving, leaving, leaving ... Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, What we had, what we gave, Our hope and sorrow, How to live amongst the people. Our biographies are in half a dozen lines, Sociologists condensed, they are now in vogue, The East just isn't submissive to science. We are leaving The East, leaving, leaving... Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, Who we were in this distant land, Let them not judge biasedly, They, the desk scholars. Farewell, mountains, you witnessed, What price was paid here to the Enemy, that would not be subdued. What of friends left behind. We are leaving The East. We are leaving The East. Leaving...

@@saintdarpa9818 It was one of the largest offensive at the time and they did win but they also suffer very high casualties (both sides suffered around one million casualties each), It was a success that could have utterly defeated the Austro-Hungarian (in a way they did, after that the duel monarchy forces were under the german command) but they had lost too much men and equipment, and later on the russians had to retreat after the war was going bad for them. If only the Russians had been better prepared for the war and hadn't messed up earlier or maybe had the romanians joined the war earlier and involved in the offensive, they could probably have maintained the momentum and ended the war by 1917, potentially avoiding the civil war (although the change was coming anyway)

Both US and USSR didn't have any obligation to help each other or to not interfere in their political games, you might ask why? Anyway, here we go: From once-conquered heavenly heights Down the charred stairs we return to the earth We are targets of guns that shoot slander and lies We are leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving Farewell, oh mountains, you should know Whom we were in a distant country No matter how biased scholar Will judge us from his cabinet Farewell, oh Afghan, an ethereal world Though it might not be fit to remember you kindly Our combat commander seems to be sad We are leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving Farewell, oh mountains, you should know What is our pain and what's our glory And how Afghanistan will pay For tears of all grieving mothers? It's not our fate to come back here How many fell in this long trip? Our deeds are not finished, and yet nontheless We are leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving Farewell, oh mountains, you should know What price was paid here Which enemies we didn't finish Which friends never got out alive Spill the beverage, pal, for a party of three That's how many survived in our dashing platoon With third toast even wind on the slopes has died down We are leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving, we're leaving Farewell, oh mountains, you should know What did we have, what gave away Whether our hopes and our sorrow Will find a home among the people? In six lines our lives will be cramped By sociologists' hands, their science now trending But is its power enough to control the East? We are leaving the East, we're leaving, we're leaving Farewell, oh mountains, you should know Whom we were in a distant country No matter how biased scholar Will judge us from his cabinet Farewell, oh mountains, you should know What price we paid here Which enemies we didn't finish Which friends never got out alive

you should redo an Afghan/grozny era video with the song , “kiss the rails girls i’m coming home”. for a soviet war song, it’s oddly uplifting, which would contrast well with the sounds of chaos in the background. thanks
