"I want to see Frieren serious in a battle" Oh boy! You're going to get what you asked for! :)

Congratulations on starting this utterly glorious series. Something to note as things progress: There's going to be callbacks to little things you see in prior episodes. There are a couple of good examples in these first four. 1. Remember early on in their travels when Fern remarks that one of the spells they gathered was one that turns sweet grapes sour? The the next episode we find that it's Eisen the Dwarf's favorite food. And then she uses the spell for him while they searched for Flamme's notes. 2. When they found the Blue Moon Weed, and Fern remembers the first time she used magic, it was a spell that made butterflies. Then Frieren gave her a butterfly hairband for her birthday the next episode. Author Antov Chekov once said "If you see a gun described in a story's first act, it absolutely must go off by the end of the third," a principle which writers have since referred to as "Chekov's gun." This series does not just have a Chekov's gun. It has a Chekov's arsenal, including one or two Chekov's attack helicopters. Have fun finding them!

Thank you for this! 😁 It’s hard catching all the small details during the first watch/blind reaction, so appreciate you pointing them out. The connection everything has to another moment in the story really makes us love the storytelling even more. We’ve already filmed up to ep 14 now, but we’ll continue to keep our eyes peeled!

2:15 “Why does Fern call Frieren ‘Frieren-sama’ instead of ‘Frieren-sensei’?” They don’t explain it, but it’s likely as you surmised, she respects her very much. But you’ll see that Fern calls everyone “-sama,” maybe because she was raised by Heiter, so she’s a really good girl. ^_^ 20:31 She’s saying it’s a “mere 10 years” (actually, she’s saying, “it’s just 10 years” … using the word “mere” makes it sound even more trivial, in my opinion) because she’s just being matter of fact. There is no deeper meaning, like she’s not trying to protect her feelings or anything. Her social skills and understanding are not that developed at this point. That’s one reason she is on a quest to try to understand humans better.

Thanks for the clarification on both! Looks like I was just thinking too deep about the “mere 10 years” part 😅

The point of the ep 4 sunrise scene is not the sunrise, but enjoying a moment with friends. Frieren did not understand that concept in the Hero's Party era. Re-watch that scene as Frieren makes the connection, we can see it on her face, of enjoying the moment because Fern is enjoying the moment. The emo payoff for the viewer is that slight, patented Frieren smile of realization.

Thanks for pointing this out! Kaynenn was thinking along the same line in our discussion, but yeah I (Lisa) was initially wondering if there was a deeper meaning for the sunrise just cause I’m so used to some form of symbolism being thrown into even simple moments like these 😅 lol I’ve learned to watch and just enjoy for what it is
@rb85998 ай бұрын
@@SxSReacts You are not wrong about the presence of deeper meaning symbolism. We are being shown 2 journeys on the surface:the Frieren journey of the Hero's Party/Himmel+Heiter lifetimes era continued as the Frieren+Fern geographic journey, and the Hero's Party geographic journey. Under our noses are: the Frieren+Fern relationship journey, the Hero's Party internal relationship journey, Fern's journey of growth in body and emotional maturity to a young adult, and other characters if you are 3 eps ahead. All of these in turn orbit the central narrative journey -- Frieren's internal journey of character change and emo maturity from reconciling her past with the ever-moving present. Layers, layers, layers.

Its already explain honestly but im still gonna say it. In the past, Frieren's party struggle to defeat Qual because they didnt know how to defend from his spell Zoltraak which could pierce anything so they just seal him instead . The spell was outdated coz of years passing on research to counter Zoltraak which Frieren and the humans modified the spell to surpassing and effectively to kill demons( Frieren's Zoltraak is white and for Qual(demon) is black).

Also Frieren is slower caster than Fern, and Fern nearly died against Qual. If someone didn't notice it, when Qual does his bigger attack, and Fern blocks it, it breaks through the first layer and then through the second layer almost instantly, yet she manages to bring up a third layer just as the second layer breaks. From my understanding, Frieren couldn't cast that fast.

@@craidiefin fern was on her knee after the battle... qual must die there and then...dude just woke up and already found the weakness of the defensive spelll XD...80 years development just gone like that in the hand of qual...
@Bukidsm8 ай бұрын
@@nelg1994honestly Frieren could kill Qual just because Fern was there. If it was another mage maybe they couldn't make a triple barrier that fast. They made look like it was easy but was a hard battle.
