if you like detective history work please read fawn brodie's No man knows my history. that is real detective work.

@@sampathrathnayaka3905 Fawn Brodie's work is based on antagonistic hearsay and conjecture. It really isn't that good as far as historical detective work goes. Anyone can find someone that didn't like smith and take their biased antagonistic views of him as authoritative. But what no single person could do is actually write a book with a complex plot full of dozens of main characters, and place names and details that do not contradict themselves and are also corroberated by actual history and biblical scriptures and concepts, that is more than 600 pages in no more than 75 working days without a single note or reference. Even non-members have looked at Brodie's work and said that it stretches known truths to conjure a forced negative narrative of Smith. Her other work on secular leaders has also been less than impressive to the history community.

Struggle with your testimony? Stay diligent until your answers come and remember those answers will come from the help of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost gives us the answers and they come over time. There isn’t any elite that will suffice compared to the answers from the Holy Ghost designed for us. Any earthly issue we face is very short compared to the eternal reward. To loose the an eternal reward is an ultimate loss which earthly circumstances can’t be awarded.

I have always wondered that since the lost pages were revelation why it couldn’t be redone. My thought process led me to believe that it wasn’t revelation and Joseph could not recall it and others must have read it.

God explains clearly in the D&C Section 10 why Joseph was not allowed to redo it. This revelation leads us to understand that the pages were not destroyed at that time nor was it a single individual or a woman who took them as well.

Lizy - Doesn't matter too much, but I would encourage going ahead and reading the book before. Some connections will make more sense after you receive your endowment, but your endowment itself may make more sense if you see some of things related to it in the Book of Mormon and church history highlighted first. One problem people sometimes have when they first go through the temple is that it doesn't seem related to the things they've learned in the church before going into the temple. In fact, much of the temple _is_ in the scriptures, but we don't necessarily highlight those things. The descriptions in the book of the plates, the translation process with interpreters and the curtain, and the story of Mosiah I and how it relates to the story of the brother of Jared could all help to contextualize your temple experience when you go through.

Just a thought on the Book of Mormon being a stick of Ephraim and not of Manasseh which is Lehi's linage- one being Jewish, and I would assume their tribal affiliation, is tied to the matriarchal line. In this case each of the brothers takes a wife of the daughters of Ishmael. Having a Jewish mother is the deciding factor in being a Jew or not in Orthodox Judaism. Not an expert but a friend of mine was born by a surrogate mother and the Orthodox Rabbi said that based on this he wasn't a Jew even though he had his Bar Mitzvah.

Hey there, halcyon! If you have the same barber, then you have excellent taste! You, me, and Tommy! Yes, that is definitely the philosopher's stone/squaring the circle. I got it a few years ago for my birthday representing the transformation of the human into the divine and the reconciling of 'irreconcilable' opposites. For me it connects with the spiritual life in general, with transhumanism, and with the paradoxical reconciliation in Christ of finite and infinite, immanent and transcendent, weak and omnipotent, sin and perfection, 'man' and God. It sounds like I may have something of a kindred spirit in you! We should talk more. And I'll be careful of Uriel. ;-) If we ever chat further, I'll tell you where else I've encountered his name.

Yes looking at the video i thought there is my long lost little brother but one who has excelled himself with a degree or two and focused his learning and imagination. It is possible to be lds and a non conformist. The waters were calm at first then a little choppy then i got babtised in them and the sea got rougher and squally. I was a too open too honest member then the big X then no mans land then back in the fold only to eventually reach the pinnackle and face new problems within the circle loose patience in the hired shepherds and eventually get carried by the beast! However the lord said id rather you hot or cold but luke warm or indiff i shall spat you out! Einstien and myself both enjoy sailing and it was during his sometime disasterous sailing passages he got his brilliant ideas! One has to have imagination to have Ūrnā or as a latter day saint wd say decernment of the spirt. You my friend may be the Pseudo-Dionysius of the church history pot holes. Hope so!

Do you believe that Jesus was once a man like us? That Jesus dwelt on this earth for a period of time? That He physically died? Do you believe that prior to Jesus' death and resurrection, He taught that we must be perfect even as His Father in Heaven is perfect - only to say after He was resurrected that we now must be perfect even as He is perfect? Nothing in Joseph's statement suggests that God was ever imperfect; and that is certainly true of Jesus. I believe that if one looks at that statement by Joseph Smith, and compares it to the real life and example of our Savior, God the Son, Jesus Christ; that statement isn't as ridiculous as some may initially purport.

Read the scriptures, all the prophets and Jesus himself referred to Adam as a real human being. If you are concerned that the Bible says he lived a thousand years, remember that God can do as He pleases, and if he wanted Adam to live a longer lifespan, then it was so, and it was necessary for populating the earth and most important so that his children and descendants could here the Gospel taught by one who was a eyewitness, one who had walked the garden of Eden and conversed with God face to face, thus also confirming to Adam's offspring and to us that God was and is real and not a figment of Adam's imagination.

No the scriptures are not allegorical or metaphorical although they do contain a lot of allegories and metaphors. God uses a lot of symbols and metaphors to convey certain Gospel thruth through poignant imagery so that the people can relate to those thruth. For example in the old testament God often uses the metaphor of marriage to illustrate his relationship with his people, sometimes when Israel is faithful to "her husband" the Lord, it is like a happy marriage,harmony, peace and blessings flow, but when Israel is unfaithful, then sorrow and consequences follow that unfaithfulness. God is alway faithful, Israel not so much. This metaphor uses something in the every day experience of people to teach eternal principles. As far as dreams, sometimes the Lord sends special dreams to teach or warn. Modern culture ridicules people who "dream" , of course not all dreams are divinely sent and most of them are just a mechanism the brain uses to make sense of its experience and the world. In case of a particularly spiritual dream, prayer will help distinguish a divinely sent dream from a mundane one.

@@esmeraldagreen1992 I just find there is a vast difference between the two scriptures (the Bible and the Book of Mormon). If it was allegorical, this could be reconciled. But there is no allusion to a trinity in the Old Testament and one really has to contort the meaning of the NT authors to make it sound like they thought it was a trinity also. This is one example, but a major one in my mind.

This is why the Lord forbade Joseph Smith from re-translating the 116 pages. Whatever purports to be the true translation of the pages it is not. Beware of the plans of the adversary.
