You did a great job explaining your method. I really appreciate the time you took. I'm bout to tackle the bed floor on my '70 K5...going to go same route (re your 2x4 method) welding in cross pieces to brace bed sides..or, I may just peal the sides, leaving the door pillars. Taking my time...I've gone this far, and done everything else, been a project for sure!

Loving your videos man. I have a great 89 K5 that’s rusty too. All new engine,brake system,dual exhaust ,axels, the works. I just need to learn how to weld. Then I would have a beast. Keep up the good work. I’m in BC so I always salute the Beaver! Lol

Well they always say the best way to learn is by doing so what do you have to lose, and a grinder can fix most things haha I’ll do my best , well you can salute the beaver anywhere but the best place to do it is up here in Canada 🇨🇦. I'm 12 videos in so far. Everything you're doing to yours I'll be doing to my 79 K5. We aren't accustom to rust in southern Oklahoma, but I got the truck up north for some reason.

Hey 👋 thanks! I actually use eBay a lot, do to there’s just a huge selection to choose from and compare with. or I use rockauto because there prices are cheap and awesome to get part numbers to cross reference on google. Hopefully this helped and good luck on your project!

Hey Zach, I noticed the taillight backing plates were still not installed during this video. Have you replaced them yet? If so how did you go about it? Thanks man, great work on everything, the C1 vid was pretty cool, a lot of sweet looking rides there also.

nice job on the metal floors dude. its a lot work for sure doing rust repairs ha ha . the cross sills that are attached to the bottom the metal trunk bed floor where did you get those?

Thanks! I actually had a local shop bend them up, I salvaged a piece off the old floor and just told the shop I needed 3 at 7 feet long, cost me about $35 for all 3, brothers truck online does sell them but there $35 for just one 7’ piece

I’d probably say make sure you find all the spot welds and drill them out and a sawzal and a grinder for the rest

I had someone do this on my 84 k5 and now my tailgate is not aligned! its higher on left side than right about 3/4 inch.... I need to do it over..

Well for the taillights backing plate I’d probably try to find a truck box and cut them out, the tailgate post that alittle harder, depends on how bad they are, on mine I just cut out and replaced the bad parts but if there completely gone then probably trying to find a truck to cut them out or to take templates off of to make new ones.

I don't know about the backing plate, but Auto Metal Direct makes the tailgate posts. They are supposed to be back in stock in the next couple weeks. JEGS also sell their stuff

Did your gate fit back in when you finished? Gaps ok?

Yes it did, I also tacked the sides in first and reinstalled the gate to make sure everything was square and the gaps were right before fully welding it out

First time was an epic fail and I messed up all the gaps hey my left door and the gate never shut right. Thank you so much for all the videos you make Cab supports are next on the agenda if I get this fixed!
