He keeps saying it's not a work truck but I never get to here why he thinks that. Higher payload, more durable, larger bed. I see no reason to say it's not equal to or better than the f150 lightning as a work truck
@dbmiller58818 ай бұрын
yeah, I just don't see that either. Seems to me like the best work truck ever. I see a lot of F150 (and similar) contractors trucks that have 100's of little (and big) dents, dings and scratches in no time. Air suspension with auto levelling is a great "work" feature too. On the reverse side, the fact that there is no access from interior to rear vault area, makes it less than ideal as a "sport" truck. I'd love to hear from Sandy the "why" not the best work truck?
@larryspiller158 ай бұрын
@dbmiller5881 unfortunately I'm fairly confident that Sandy doesn't have any objective reasoning for this statement. I have a feeling it's because of the unique look and that alone.
@nubbinzawyer8 ай бұрын
I am pretty sure it is because of the reach in from the side issue. Many work trucks have a toolbox reachable from the side. I am almost certain this is the reason and why most people I have heard say its not a work truck is because of that issue. I will say, that I will miss that particular aspect of my current truck when I eventually get one of these (eventually.....)

This isn't any more a truck than the Chevrolet El Camino, Ford Ranchero or Subaru Brat was a truck. Simply having a bed is not the definition of a truck and an F150 or RAM 1500 has a larger bed (both of which are actual trucks).
@kestrelglassingsystems67048 ай бұрын
@@bbaz6729 They are available with longer beds, but my F150 (in the most common trim and still obviously a truck) has the 5.5' bed. And, genuinely curious why you think based on objective specs the F150 and the Ram 1500 are actual trucks ad this isn't? I own an F150 (for 12 years), and I've spent some time messing with the CT. Other than the back seat being a little larger in the F150, there's no significant form/function difference. Meaning Pretty much anythign I can put in my F150 will also go into a CT. The other specs are similar: towing (same), payload(favors CT). The CT is undoubtedly tougher on the skins than my truck, at least for dents and scratches. Both seem capable enough off-road, and CT would have had more ground clearance on the trail that ripped off the skid plate on my F150 FX4 last year. Honestly, not trying to be snarky, what makes the CT not a truck by your definition? I'm really curious about other truck users perspectives here. Is a ladder frame triple box design fundamental if it can accomplish the same tasks? Thoughts on the F150 Lightning?

Aesthetics aside, my problem with CYBRTRK has always been that I don't find it to be a particularly practical Ute in terms of work truck usage. Sandy & Jordan's comments reflect this. Having said this, again it's a case of right tool for the right job for the right person - I'm just not that person. I much prefer the Ford Lightening F-150 even if it is (still) far too big; you don't need a tank to get the job done. 😊
@rogerstarkey53908 ай бұрын
I believe this is dimensionally *smaller* than the F150 on the outside. . For a work truck... The bed is 150mm(?) longer. It has the tonneau for security. How about a bed slide-out? Then you instantly get the easy access*plus* the security of everything covered?
@alanmay79298 ай бұрын
exactly! the ford lightning is the best shape or design to ever existed for actual work! look at the toyota hilux, in Thailand they convert the bed to dump truck, upgrades the suspensions and make it move up to 5 tons of rice from the farm to storage.... nothing will ever equal that!
@pinkelephants14218 ай бұрын
@alanmay7929 The importance of the ability to (easily) side load into the bed of a Ute can't be overlooked. When doing (a lot) of loading, having to walk those extra few steps to and from the back of the bed is both exhausting and a time waster over the course of the day; you can't always back directly into where you want to load from. I really think Jordan can be excused for the challenge as he puts it, 'of being vertically challenged', as tall, short, or anywhere in between, just looking at the high sides of CYBRTRK makes my shoulders and neck ache madly.

There is one of the vids in the Tesla factory. It may have been with Cory. The engineer said how much stiffer the rear sail makes the truck bed and how much the front fender contributes to the crush. Sounds structural to me. Replace the exterior work hardened SS with mild steel and the castings would have to be made heavier to keep the same stiffness. However this truck is so incredible stiff it would still be serviceable. Just not as tough. Why the quest to prove Elon was a fool to use this material? Or is the goal to show that he lied? Tesla gave us a pickup that breaks the mold. That is a GOOD thing. Elon being human has real faults. You don't need to make this good thing look bad. Celebrate it. The problem is that few people bother to understand what an exeskeleton is. As I understand it for the purposes of vehicles so long as the skin plays a part in the structure it is an exoskeleton. But forget that. What ELon said is they were going to move some of the weight from the frame to the outside to build a tough truck. They did that. Then they figured out they could reduce the wight of that skin by work hardening the 1.4mm stainless. So unless you goal is to prove Elon lied, not allowed to change, you now know all you need to know about the the exoskeleton issue.
@danharold30878 ай бұрын
@@Marc83Aus Sort of close. The cabin sides are constructed of ultra high strength hot stamped boron steel. As do BMW and Mercedes Benz. This is where the similarity with a regular unibody or body on frame truck ends. The front and rear castings bolt to the cabin. The casting provide the mounting points for the body, motors, gear reduction and suspension. The aluminum casting have the crush zones engineered into them. No steel needed. A casting gives the designer more control over shape and cross section so works well for this. Tesla has some very good materials science people. They use what is best suited.

No spare tire for a off road vehicle? I really doubt you will find an exo skeleton , that is probably why it was delayed so long . They probably had to scrap the whole idea and redesign it as a typical truck . A 1970’s Chrysler is a lot more exoskeleton than this.

I am 650'th in line in the reservation queue of over 2 million, I put my down payment on a Foundation Series 8 weeks ago, and it frustrates me that Munro gets a personal Cybertruck jumping the entire queue. I'm happy for him, but where is my truck? Grrrr 8:20

Good video, btw, Cory was a good guy on the videos, but Jordan is much more relatable, like Sandy, especially as an engineer! Love you guys…

8:00 imagine some magical sensor that'd sense the actual distance to obstacles in the back. Like an artificial bat or a sonar but with air instead of water... 😮

As an owner of an Model 3 with the WORTHLESS, WORTHLESS, WORTHLESS* camera-driven park assist, I appreciate the sarcasm, but doesn't the CyberTruck have a backup camera? * Did I mention worthless?

You got it. TESLA went after the 73% of the pickup truck owners only use the truck to haul or tow 2-3 times a year. The reset of the time it is daily travel just up high, which my wife liked about the Ford Ranger we had for a while. It is a truck that rides like a car but raises for off road/camping, hauls projects easily handling the 4x8 sheets, and can still tow.
