Nah they left, we were the aliens slave race that they used to mine gold from this planet. They aided us in evolving from the first species of human to what we are now. There first few tries at evolving humans capable of mining gold were originally incapable of procreating because they didn’t want to give us too much power that we were capable of reproducing, humans naturally died out without reproducing after a certain amount of time. It was far more work for them to continually come back and create more humans so essentially after sometime they chose to create what we consider now to be Homo sapiens, an evolved form of human that had reproductive organs and had the ability to procreate and reproduce. Eventually after having mined the bulk majority (there was still some left but compared to what they took it was nothing) of the gold they chose to fully leave this planet.

We are all collectively one small child of a civilization, stuck on a rock with just enough to survive, trying to take care of ourselves and struggling, with no parent to guide us. Yet we are already miserably failing, damaging ourself, and as of recently, trying and hoping to create something that can replace us. Who knows, maybe the descendants of our species may one day live to see iron stars, despite the ever-present ability for the species to end itself in a matter of days. And maybe we will instead simply fizzle out after a technological stagnation and environmental threats; maybe no living man will ever set foot on another planet, or maybe that will happen in a couple decades. As is such with an infant trying to guide and grow itself with no help in the vast and dark expanse.
