The Rwandan government has indicated that it has the capacity to process 1,000 asylum seekers over the five-year trial period. There were over 29,000 small boat arrivals in 2023, so had the Rwanda scheme been up and running it would have cut the number of asylum applications processed by just 0.7%. That's acceptance of 200 migrants/ year. Some day more than that arrive at our shores.

Once they got wind of how cold it was they might change their minds or as there is a near 70% chance of getting asylum they might want to take their chances.
