Fun fact: In the comics, Mister Twister is the very first enemy Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad, the three founding members of the Teen Titans , fought together way back in "The Brave and the Bold #54" from 1964. Though there, he's a human.

However, this show's version is more of an amalgamation of all the different young superhero teams from the comics, most famously Young Justice and the Titans, with a lot of "put a different spin on things" mixed in (for example, Superboy is the only one of the comic's Young Justice founding members to be a part of the team in Season 1; the team in the comics was also less a black ops-team and more just a bunch of kids hanging out having fun and fighting crime).

Young Justice and Stargirl turned sportsmaster into a legitimate badass. People seeing YJ sportsmaster for the first time go from "heh, sportsmaster? What's his gimmick? " to dropping jaws, and when they see him in statgirl they get excited.

Young Justice made me fall in love with all the lesser known and D list heroes and villains. So many of them have so much potential to be seen as awesome and cool by more people if DC would give them a shot in more stuff. Some are gimmicky sure, like Snowflame… but others like Sportsmaster you can really make into a cool character.

Little background info on the three lesser known villains: Sportsmaster is a, well, sport-themed supervillain who, in the comics, went up against Green Lantern and Wildcat. Although he was part of a number of big villain organizations like the Injustice League and Leviathan, he is usually considered a "D-Tier villain". In the comics, Shimmer is the older sister of Mammoth and a founding member of the Fearsome Five, a recurring villain team of the Teen Titans. In the comics, she has the ability to transmute chemical elements and compounds. The Cult of the Kobra is a snake-themed cult that follows an ancient prophecy to bring forth an Age of Chaos which will remake the world anew but better (basically typical comic-cult stuff). They usually clash with Batman and one of his teams named the "Outsiders" as well as Wonder Woman and a secret spy organization named "Checkmate". Much like Sportsmaster, they aren't used too much in the comics.

​@@armaggedon390 With his variety of weapons (most of them explosive), he could catch GL by surprise. Further, he can attack civilliance diverting GL's attention and maybe getting an opening (his stick was that he always raided sport events so there were always plenty of civilliance around to put in danger). However, he was always more of a nuisance than a real threat constantly having to fake his death just to escape. That's why he is considered a D-Tier villain, someone who may keep a hero busy for a few hours (at best) but is almost guaranteed to get beaten without too much effort.

also, context for the original Young Justice: The team was created when the Teen Titans in the comics, well, had grown up. At one point they even dropped the "Teen" from their title because none of the core members was even in their teens anymore (heck, Wondergirl, Aqua-Lad and Flash had become parents at that point, too), so DC decided to use the third generation side-kicks (Robin No.3 (Time Drake), Impulse (Bart Allen) and Superboy No.2 (Conner Kent)) to create a new teen-focused super hero team after the events of "JLA VS. Titans: Technis Imperative" which was Young Justice. Sadly, the team itself, despite being popular, didn't really left a mark long term, because the core team members weren't allowed to grow and react like the Titans did (because otherwise they'd run into the same issue as with the Titans). The only lasting thing of the YJ comics run was Conner and Tim becoming best friends, but that was sadly it.

In this world the teen titans and other young groups don’t form, but instead become members of the justice league covert ops team. This is my favorite dc media outside of the comics. Nope, sorry to dissapoint you about Red Tornado. He doesn't create his wind vortex by rotating his body really fast, he is just able to summon it literally out of nowhere. After all, he was one of the many creations of the weirdly obscure Dr. Ivo, who is basically THE mad scientist in the DC universe. That's the same person who also created Amazo, who is a villain strong enough to take on the entire Justice League by himself.

NO SPOILER COMMENT: The scrawny kid who gets injected and becomes the giant guy with the ripped skin is Mammoth from Teen Titans (Villain from Hive 5) Danny Trejo does play Bane This Aqualad is different from the one in Teen Titans. Two different people who take up the mantle. Think of this as an alternate universe to both Teen Titans and the DC Animated Movies you all have watched. Some characters already exist. Some not at all. Some have different but similar origins and some are wildly different. You are in for a good time, but pay attention to the names of characters. The puddings in the details!

Young justice kinda did what BTAS did back in the day and that was take more obscure/sillier characters and gave them a more interesting and realistic edge to them with sportsmaster being the earliest and more successful ones because sportsmaster in the comics is usually a doofus and the Young justice version is the one that is being replicated for other media even the comics.

Bane is often misunderstood as a mere brute. But he is not. He has canonically had a chemical engineering degree (though maybe not this one), and his original appearance had him deduce Batman's identity along with exercising superb strategy before he finally went into Wayne Manor to Break The Bat. Also, the Cult of the Cobra is not only distinct from the nemeses of the Joes, but this DC Cobra is different than the one I read about in my pre-nu52 Batman book. In that they were far less impressive. Speaking of glowups, this is the ONLY Sportsmaster version I respect.

I don't know how far you are on patreon but before watching season 2, you might want to play (or at least react to the cutscenes of) young justice legacy although the game itself is renown to be bad it's canon in the timeline (the game covers some of the big events occuring during the 5 years time skip between season 1 and 2. And some of those are big enought to be part of the s2's plot so you might get confused since they will be mentioned but won't be recaped).
