We REALLY needed to do this - Plans change sometime

We started the week with plans to expand our shed so that we can finally store hay and straw. But things didn't go according to plan 100%. Our village needed a hand, so we decided to take you on a massive potato harvest with everyone here. We know that some of you have been wanting to see more of our village and how we integrate into Portugal. So we hope this will give you a taste of our lives here in North Portugal.

Hey my dear friends, Great video this week. Awesome music, Great filming, Lovely shot of you both cutting branches of the Chestnut tree and looking back at the house, It is amazing how much firewood you can get from a few branches, and as you know it just takes time and a bit of patience. It is good that you have it all bagged up ready for the winter. How lovely it was to see you joining the village people to harvest the potatoes. I just love when folk come together and help each other. Health and Happiness is all you need (a bit of money helps at times LOL) Nice to see all the animals out in the fresh air chilling. Is that water where were on your land? Glad to see you were busy bottling the apples. They should last for quite a while just as they are. Just a normal week here, still a bit cold nothing to complain about, busy with kids, sewing and knitting, soon be time to start planting in the garden. Till next Sunday...........................

Great video. Why don’t you wash slice and dry all those apples,then you can eat as dry apple or bake in winter . Dan I am sure you could make a multi rack drier with scrap wood and fly screen mesh . Save so much time and energy whilst it is still hot.

When you have the perfect man and babies you want you do have everything. I had my man for 52 years, he died 2 years ago, miss him. But the wonderful times we had will be with me until I die. I'm almost 74 and have planned my life to the end. I'm ok,, just ready for it. Loved the wood and potato harvesting. The apples you canned looked so good. Mason his life in the water and chasing his sticks. Have you noticed if your hens are missing any feathers off their backs? If not your rooster isn't doing his job. Just saying. That may be why your eggs haven't yielded any chicks. Take carer, rest when you can and see you next week.

The fruit did not get enough water hence the branch was to dry always water your trees as well as your veg the land is to dry hope this helps good luck

Apple trees need to be thinned. You should take off about 3/4 of the apples when they are about 50% of the size yours are now. This will ensure better sized, and better quality apples. When you thin them, take the apples and leave the stems on if you can as the remaining apples will then hold better on the tree.

@@SimpleLifePortugal No worries. Lots of fruits trees will drop fruit that they can’t support but apples want to grow every potential fruit, and end up just carrying too much fruit. All commercial growers thin fruit, it can be done chemically or by hand. There will probably be videos on KZbin showing you how to thin apples by hand.

Try rescuing your duck house from the tank and put a hen in there with a nice nest and some fake eggs to make it go broody. Nature is the best for hatching chicks

Overloaded fruit trees need to have half the fruit picked when the apples / pears/ whatever… are very small. You can save the tree and also get a harvest of larger individual fruits.❤️❤️ PS… Potato harvest looks exhausting, but it’s a wonderful village get together.. ❤️❤️

The egg you showed had not started at all so was probably infertile, I never wash hatching eggs just pick any dirt off. Check eggs and remove ones with no growth after ten days (you can check for growth by shining a torch through the shell in a dark room) incubated eggs need to be turned several times a day until the day before hatching when humidity can be increased and chicks can usually be heard peeping at this stage dont open the incubator until hatching is complete.

Hi ! ,I don't know anything about chickens ,but why don't let nature do it ,the mama#hen can't do the job ?.....

Easy answer, we've tried to let our hens go broody, we only have 2 mature ones, and one being an easter egger which are not famous for going broody. Recently we've purchased a little brown hen, we named her Janeway, her spices is supposed to be excellent mama and often turn broody. But atm she's too young... _Maybe next Spring, fingers crossed :)
