I don't know where antisemitism comes from in the UK, I'm from a working class conservative region and we either don't know what a jew is or don't care at all. I moved to Manchester and It was the first time I saw the stereotypical Jew and we just had our own duties and friendly interactions, my mom however was fascinated and shy. Good people.

I like that Yiddish word. In German it just means "human (being)", but for Jewish people it has that extra (positive) meaning. If I'm not wrong, it's also a big compliment.

@@willardaustria a major compliment. Similar to what Italians call "a man of respect." A lot of positive nuance. And it can be applied to anyone, not just men. A little girl can be a mensch. A lot of Yiddish words are like that, where the unspoken nuance is more important than the literal definition. It's a wonderful language that way.

@@AviFagan I have a book about Yiddish, including a lexicon/dictionary Yiddish to German. Unfortunately I haven't yet had the time to look into it. Interestingly, there are quite some words we use in German, especially in Bavaria and Austria, where I live, without knowing of their Yiddish/Hebrew origin. Mazel or masel would be one of them.
