I must say that Bob is really good at just talking about his involvement with cars. I really didn't think that a junkyard owner would be as interesting as he has been. Maybe it is just that we never think much of a junkyard except for when we need a radiator that doesn't have a rock wedged in the middle of it, or we need a "new" full sized spare to toss in the trunk. He seems like the everyman version of John Ficarra (who I think is the best of all the regulars, so read this as high praise). Same enthusiasm, different vantage point, same kind of love for things that go vrooom. (though I guess that some of Ficarra's interests with cheap cars would overlap here.)

Man, in the UK up until about 10/15 years ago, you used to be able to walk into scrapyards, ask the guvnor if they had the car or part you were after, and they'd point to a corner of the yard and you were just expected to get on with removing whatever it was you needed! 😊 Dangerous as FUCK really! 😊 Especially considering that you'd sometimes have rows of cars stacked 3 cars high, and just balancing precariously whilst you bashed away! 😊 I think that was _partly_ why they got rid of/phased out/abolished car scrapyards where you could grab what you want! 😂 There ARE still scrapyards about, except they're not as dangerous and cars aren't stacked 3 high and dumped all over the place! 😊 These days, you walk in, ask for what you want, and usually they have it off the shelf and all ready to go ie alternators, wing mirrors, steering wheels, doors and things like that. And if they don't have it there, they'll remove it from the car for you (if they have it). Because back in the day, my friend and I (and other non-mechanics!) would begin to attack the part we'd need but we'd probably break it whilst trying to remove it! And so on to the next one and try not to wreck that (and without the boss man noticing what we were doing)! So yeah, the old style Help-Yourself-Scrapyards got phased out because of the danger to stupid idiots like me and my friends, as well as the potential pollution that the scrap motors would leach into the soil. Most of those scrapyards that went, sold their land to property developers for a decent sum. Though I'm sure the developersn probably tried to lowball them with the 'pollution issue' ie with it now being Brown Belt Land, which is actually no really issue for developers at all... Yup, gone are the "good ol' days"!!! 🤔😁

Super cool! One of my first few cars was a ‘82 Capri “black magic” edition. With the bubble hatch and the 5 Liter. Some great memories in that car and my first 3 cars were my Dad’s 70 240z and then 2 ‘73 240z’s. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to save those cars!!!

My brother and I both bought early 911’s by ourselves in high school. I lost out but broke the ground for my younger brother. She told dad a 16 yr old shouldn’t have a 911 (a 1964). Replaced it with a 1963 366B which I took to graduation. My brother bought a 1965 911 which he updated to an RSR look. He regularly got stoped because they thought he was a drug dealer. This was the mid 70’s.

I've been following you for years now and I always ask myself, how does this man figure everything out? You've developed this great character and are very admirable. It's always been an industry that shrouded in myth and shadow largely compliments of Hollywood but Auto wreckers are one of the few remaining businesses where literal hard work pays off and they actually provide a really valuable service along with being really cool places to shop. I take my hat off to Salvage yard operators, they have given me so much joy and help over the years and hey its probably the only real form of treasure hunting around today. Love the photos too being a W116 and R107 guy!
