I rode this coaster back in October for the first time. and it has surpassed my expectations. Great ride, great layout, super fun. I also sat in the front. Big smile coming in... HUGE smile getting off.... Hence, I went back on it again XD.

While I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as others do, it's still a strong high tier GCI woodie for me. That first drop is amazing and it has some great airtime and laterals. Just don't think it's nearly as good as other strong GCIs like Thunderhead and Prowler (Haven't ridden Mystic Timbers yet but I will this summer). I'm still gonna be bummed the day we lose this ride. It deserved to live a MUCH longer life.

The 3 best GCI coasters in the U.S. are Thunderhead, Mystic Timbers and Gold Striker. In no particular order (I stopped ranking coasters by number long ago). I was planning one day at Great America but because Gold Striker is so good I was there for 2 1/2 days & nights. I managed 150 rides on this incredible coaster during that 2024 trip and I only hope that the ride is relocated with the park when they move in a few years.

I used too work 5 minutes from there for years and during my hr lunch break early in the season when the crowds were low I would go and ride gold striker and railblaze then go back too work with time too spare. Then after work I would go and do a night ride before heading home. I did that for years

Thanks for the cool video. It is our goal to get out there prior to October to ride this thing. We went on GhostRider (and X2 2X) over the weekend. I would love to see a top 10 or top 25 Wooden Roller Coaster list from you. Most of the people on the east coast seem to side with El Toro as Numero Uno. Lots of people on the West Coast like GhostRider.

GhostRider is still the best woodie in CA imo. Gold Striker is #2. GhostRider was running out of control when i rode this past summer. Especially the 2nd half. Great America was my home park growing up so I loved seeing them get a great coaster with Gold Striker. Hopefully it gets relocated when this park is gone. Be a shame if it didn't.

CGA has two of my top 10 favorite coasters, rail blazer and Gold Striker. I hope, if they are closing the park, they save those two and move them. Their other coasters are kinda mid though.
