You guys are awesome and we really appreciate what you do for the sailing community and especially for the 440 community. We bought a 440 partly due the the info you have put out and just completed 1 year and over 5000 miles living on board with our family. We just went through the Panama canal and will be heading across the Pacific next year. If we ever meet, you have at least a case of beer coming from me. Side note, we were hanging out with a mutual friend and he speaks very highly of you. Excellent video, loved every minute.

09:30 - I don't know anyone's particular sense of humor here; more-so, that I believe, Stu has a pretty good one. There's much to delve into, with regards to _"contrails" (condensation-trails), "chemtrails," and "cloud-seeding"_ - We can forget all of that for a moment, and just consider that creating an area of sizable shade, is going to cool said area, and affect the air currents (it happens every dawn and dusk; particularly on clear-air days) - so, condensation, particularly with added particles (such as spent jet-fuel, like diesel, and kerosene, soot, and other, natural occurring), will do just that - never-mind further, the wake, created by these large aircraft. Now, we add the travel frequency, and concentration of these large jet-aircraft, in specific routes (jet, airways, IIRC) - they're going to make _some_ disturbance. (especially, at intersecting points). The problems we have, never-minding conspiracies, and their counter-parts, is that with the _"correlation does not equal causation"_ principle; the order and context is not necessarily, what's been observed - in other words, what if, the conditions preceding the storm, are the very same, that makes these _"trails",_ far more noticeable, and longer lasting... The one thing that I notice omitted, in these sorts of accounts, is the barometric pressure (and trend) - humidity, temperature, AND pressure, combine to make, the whole, being greater than the sum, of it's parts. Then we could go into the follies of witnesses, and their reports... we see what we believe, far more than what the contextual facts were. I'm only here because Stu @Danger Marine , posted a link that I followed - I intend, only respect. As you were, cheers-

Thanks for the great comment and details you got into Marka - its great to see different opinions and we’ve always been people to listen to every view point and we certainly are not trying to convince anyone of anything here - we love to learn 👍 and we love to share 🤗. What you may find interesting is that the weather forecasts were for mild and stable conditions. We were meant to be motoring across a pond and carried a lot of diesel because of it. On the other hand we are sailing in a location that is ‘out of season’ so one can expect stronger currents and changes in weather. It’s quite something to be there for real and feel the threat of being exposed - we never get to film the really wild stuff because at that moment we’re in survival mode. The only reason I mentioned the planes and trails is because the story our friend shared with us came back to us at that moment and it did make us wonder. We appreciate your detailed thoughts - very interesting . When we sailed through the Singapore straits with lots of lightening it was interesting how we were told by our insurers that they were not happy to insure boys there because the heavy traffic and plumes of diesel soot (with metallic content) creates conditions ideal for lightening storms . Very interesting topics Cheers and thanks for engaging - Stuart is a great mate and pleased you took time to drop in and drop a comment thorough his channel. Cheers mate - we appreciate it 🍻

@@CatamaranImpi - Succinctly; right back, at you! We seem to have quite compatible tendencies for learning, and the appreciation for examining things, anew; and outside of that which we've historically thought, or believed. I, initially, failed to offer my own flexibility, in such things; and (without rewatching the video, for this time), your editing, may've shaped the presentation, of a conviction, about the planes causing the storm. (subject to my own interpretation, of course.) My sincere apologies for any error, on my part. I'm pleased to sort of, make your acquaintance; more-so, that you gave such a thoughtful, articulated, and well considered reply! That Bass Strait crossing was amazing - an experience we will never forget and hope to do again 👍 Cheers Patrick and thanks so much for engaging with us 🤗

Hey mate. I see Nahoa now also has bulkhead issues. Just wondering if you’ve had your bulkheads looked at? Seems like a notable % of Lagoons are suffering this issue
@CatamaranImpi2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate 👋 One of the first things we did was to strengthen bulkheads when we purchased the boat new. This is because we found bulkhead issues on our previous Catana 471 developing and most catamarans will develop bulkhead issues that sail heavy seas. Bulkhead issues are not a Lagoon issue alone (although notably the 450 had a serious issue) but are a general issue with production catamarans. Ive recently been asked to look at Leopard Catamarans also with broken bulkheads, a privilege catamaran and an FP. It’s become more ‘known’ among sailors in recent times with owners now starting to check bulkheads where previously owners were oblivious to this. So 13 years ago when we purchased our 440 new we did some mods for heavy weather cruising and world sailing to our new boat. Some of what we did around the bulkhead is published on a blog we wrote . Some things to look at to prevent damaging bulkheads outside of heavy cruising is ‘rigging tension’ (rigging too tight pulls up the sides of the boat with a downward force through the mast), poor sailing habits (like sailing over powered especially surfing down waves into the back of waves ahead causes huge downward pressure through the mast and a prudent skipper would use engines in these conditions to assist powering the boat through these waves and protest the rigging forces, grounding a boat (ie hitting a reef or hitting a sand bank cause the boat to stop but inertia through the mast can break bulkheads), improper hauling out of a catamaran ( one of the worst culprits for breaking bulkheads is poor haul out) etc etc. I think Lagoon owners are particularly vigilant in checking bulkheads because of the 450 issue. Great comment and thanks for checking in with us about this 🙌👌
@MrCriticalMe2 жыл бұрын
@@CatamaranImpi That is great news mate. I vaguely recall you mentioning in one of your videos that you were doing some work to reinforce the bulkheads but didn't recall the detail. I'm glad you had the foresight to do that work upfront and I hope hope more owners are made aware of this. Looking forward to your next video. Keep well mate.
@CatamaranImpi2 жыл бұрын
@@MrCriticalMe thanks buddy 🙌 I’m feeling very sorry for Nahoa with their kids onboard and seeing what’s happened to their boat - that really sucks … Someone mentioned to me they may have got stuck on a reef or hit a reef in Indonesia sometime back and perhaps they took some damage from that but I’m going on 3rd party info so not totally sure 🤔 . If that is the case it wouldn’t surprise me if the bulkheads took a knock but who knows. All it takes is for a catamaran to be placed ‘skewed on the ground’ for it to put force on bulkheads which is why we are like mother hens around our boat every time we haul the boat. Either way I truly hope they find a solution that’s affordable for them. For us we knew it would be best to take our new boat and strengthen everything up before anything shifted . We know production cats sail the world many times over but we also know they are more designed for charter so they need reinforcements for years of ocean sailing and even then every ten years one should stop and have everything gone through again with a major overhaul in mind . We took a 6 month gap during Covid to do exactly that and removed all panels etc etc to check the boat through. To detach personal feelings we actually appointed a surveyor to go through our boat and look for defects. We now know we’re good for years to come 👌. This is also why I shudder when I see the cheap monthly costs boat owners say they get by on. The old thought of 10% of the original boat value per year should be allocated to maintenance and repairs and living is in my opinion an accurate one . We’ve seen so many people loose their dreams because there comes a time when suddenly the boat demands that money that hasn’t been spent to be spent . This is why preventative maintenance is key to sailing and replacing stuff regularly, hauling and inspecting, digging deep for defects etc is important . There are two options, perhaps 3 - either keep replacing your craft and deal with all the warranty and early year issues or be the guy that stops and rebuilds from time to time making your boat stronger and stronger. One can have a custom boat built or buy one upwards of $3M but that’s for the privileged few and unfortunately resale is better on production builds than custom builds. The advantage of production builds is the massive community of owners who can share information. Buying used boats is an art if one wants to get it right. Knowing what the previous owner has done on the boat is all important because you could be buying another man’s troubles . Just some thoughts I thought may be worth sharing as you’ve put good effort into this comment to us … cheers mate 👌👋

This kind of ship disaster is due to "cargo liquefaction". "Cargo liquefaction occurs when dry bulk cargoes with high moisture content start to behave like liquids when the ship is moving. Such cargoes shift rapidly in the holds of a ship, resulting in free surface effect, making the ship unstable and potentially causing it to capsize" from the first result on google

Great video especially about diving safety. However I am not so sure about the cam-trail story. Jet trails obviously form due to condensation. Since burning jet fuel releases particles from the burning process- clouds my form around these particles (cloud condensation nuclei). Nevertheless your observations might have been pure coincidence. Scientists conducted real experiments before spraying salt solutions (Natrium/magnesium) onto clouds to make them rain using special planes but surely not commercial airlines.
@CatamaranImpi2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Mr Edinson 🙏 and thanks for the comment. The ocean keeps us free and for sure our observations may have been coincidental to the weather at hand. Since we’ve been sailing years upon years we’ve learned to keep our minds open and learn what we can from nature and man … Cheers and again appreciate the comment 🍻

There's nothing secret about chemical spaying from big tanker jets . That's been giong on for 40 years that I've known. They spend millions of taxpayers dollars thinking they are helping out with the weather. You can find them on the internet and see inside the tanker planes. It's very interesting.
