In just ten days, my wife and I will be celebrating our 28th anniversary, and we’re doing it in a way that’s extra special. We've never had the chance to go on an overseas holiday before. Sure, we went to Australia a couple of years ago, but that was only for four days and was more about work than leisure. This time, however, I’ve really pushed the boat out. I’ve booked us a 12-night cruise, just the two of us. We're flying to Australia, where we’ll spend a couple of days with my sister. This is especially meaningful because she's only 13 months younger than me. When we finished school, she trained as a nurse and headed off to Australia. She got married, started a family, and in the years since, we've only managed to see each other a handful of times. So, this visit is long overdue. After spending some time with her, we’ll head to the port to get onboard the Pacific Adventure - a massive 290-metre ship that’s like a floating city. Our first stop will be New Caledonia, where we’ve got two shore excursions booked. Both are sightseeing trips, and one finishes with a lovely French cheese and wine tasting - I can already taste it! After that, we’ll head to Vanuatu for another excursion. This one’s quite exciting - we’ll be going out to a marine reserve and then drifting back to the island while snorkelling. Next, we’ll make our way to Lautoka in Fiji, where we’ll head out on a 78-foot catamaran to a nearby island for more snorkelling. After that, we’ll head to Dravune Island for a day on the beach, just relaxing and taking it all in. Then, we’ll spend the last four nights sailing back to Sydney. It’s shaping up to be a truly unforgettable trip, and I’m so excited to share it with my wife. It’s going to be the trip of a lifetime for us.

@@mikephillips9311 I just saw your message and really appreciate the kind words so much . We still publish updates on FB and Instagram and just felt there are so many amazing publishers on KZbin that it takes too much time for us to share stuff as the older generation 😊 - but - we’re on our second circumnavigation and currently in Ilha Dos Lençois which was where we put out one of our first KZbin videos . Back then it was really tough to have the right editing tools, access to music etc etc - it’s a different world now 😊 Perhaps I’ll get around to sharing some more videos about cruising the world when I’m not so busy sailing 😂 The channel Catamaran Javerne just published a video on their French channel interviewing us so you can take a look there 😊 Thanks again and we do love the interaction of everyone - thank you 🙏 🤗

@@CatamaranImpi You guys had one of the very best sailing channels ever. Your approach to challenges & problems was ever so intuitive & informative, you had sensible solutions. You are the "man's man" and your wife added the beauty & classy feminine touch. I'll never understand why your channel never took off more. My wife & I sailed over 30k miles over 5 years, survived 5 hurricanes and never took any serious damage. We shunned the large groups and stuck mostly to uninhabited islands in far off rarely visited places. Pre GPS & pre internet so I know of what I speak. Your videos exhibited a depth of heroic character, determination & honesty that is rare now. Thank you for taking the time for your response, it just shows the depth of character of you both. May God shower you two with innumerable blessings of joy & protection during your travels. Mike & Karla.

Hi Brent great video as usual! I'm heading up to Indo at the end of this season so very timely. Can you please detail how the polishing/transfer fuel lines are connected to the boats fuel tanks? Did you just put a T section on the line feeding from the tank to the primary filter. BTW on my L450 I installed Separ primary filters and have never had a fuel problem - but I know how risky the fuel in Indo can be.- thanks again for the practical help and inspiration George SC Cabana

I was going through your videos hoping to see how you rigged your sails so you can reef at at other point of sail except head to wind. This is an interesting topic for an aspiring sailors :) If you have a video I missed, I would love to get link. If there isn't, I hope to see one in the future. Thank you for the free advices and safe sailing!
@CatamaranImpi Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 there Yeah sorry I haven’t put up a video with us doing that - there may be some footage where we are doing it without really explaining it but basically we do it with a square top main sail and previously with a regular main sail prior to purchasing the square top. It’s easier with a regular sail but very doable with the square top too. The trick is to ease off the halyard foot by foot whilst cranking in on the reef lines but making sure to use the motion of the waves rocking the boat to square up the luff and leach tension of the sail as you proceeded . It takes a bit of practice but once you’ve developed a technique that works on your rigging you’ll get it . So: main halyard eased off little at a time and bringing up the tension through the reef lines because you don’t want to drag the sail down the shrouds or bend the battens backwards although slightly so is ok 👌 I’ll see if we can do a video on this when I get back into the water (hauled at the moment doing rigging ) - a lot of folks do query it so it would be worth doing. I think way back I put up something on Facebook about it with some footage but in light winds - I need to do it with some power in the wind Cheers 🍻

Really love your channel. You guys are a wealth of information. I am in contract to buy a 45' cat and love your technical videos. What is a roving bilge pump?
@CatamaranImpi Жыл бұрын
Congratulations with your new 45’ Cat 🙌🙌🙌🙌 A roving bilge pump is one that is set up with long extension cables so you are able to stow the pumps until needed and basically throw them into which ever part of the boat has spring a leak … 🍻
@CatamaranImpi Жыл бұрын
I did reply but doesn’t seem to have posted - sorry about that ! Congratulations with the 45’ cat 👏 A roving bilge pump is one you can stow away with a long lead and tubes to be deployed in the part of the boat that has sprung a leak when needed 🍻

Well considered response. I love watching La Vaga, but I think their decision to move to a new trimaran is a bad one. I'm sure that the speed will be amazing and it will be fun to sail, but they are sacrificing a lot of room and comfort just for a few extra knots. Had they had the resources to do so, it would have made every sense when they were just a couple, during their mono days. But with a family, and often other crew, I think it's going to be difficult for them. Nobody should be basing any part of a decision on the belief that their new boat will be capable of "outrunning storms." It's a lie that Riley himself spoke about in another video when talking about boat sow salespeople's claims. Plenty of people have believed that about a fast cat or tri, and many of those have found that storms can often move a hell of a lot quicker than expected. I would be very happy with a good prod cat. I get all the room and comfort and it's a hell of a lot faster than swimming there!
@CatamaranImpi2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Dan 👍 More and more younger folks are going performance and I guess that’s great when you’re younger and conditions are good for it, but without saying what is right or wrong I just hope folks going for lighter performance oriented boats realize that if they end up on a storm they will be more prone to capsize than someone on a heavier production cat. I truly hope this never happens because it’s exciting to have a fast cat but as mentioned in the video everything comes with an advantage and disadvantage . I agree that sometimes a performance cat can get one to a destination sooner than the arrival of a storm but often one will not outrun a storm and in that scenario the performance cat is going to have a lot more to deal with. Let’s hope we don’t hear more and more about cats flipping over 😞 - production-cats are more likely to loose the rig than capsize Cheers mate
