So glad holley is still building and selling carbs. I had a holley 1050 on my 396 in my 65 chevelle. I got my 65 without engine transmission or interior the day my friend lost his job and his truck broke down. I lent him $ 400 to get it towed back into town. He gave me the 65 because he knew he couldn't afford to finish it and couldn't afford to pay me for getting his truck home so he asked me if I would take it as payment for lending him the tow money. I had the engine and transmission built already as a backup for my 69 Camero that had a 427. I has it on the road with the dash and gauges I found from a 66 along with the interior from a 65 Beaumont that was in mint condition except for having to get the leather on the seat of the driver's side sewn up again. He actually bought it from me 3 years later and I gave him a great deal. Basically the cost of everything plus the original 400 I paid. I did all the work so there wasn't any money added for work hours of a mechanic.

True story. Over the last few years I’ve had a go back and forth about Holley versus Edelbrock with a coworker. I was thinking of going back to Holley after he had a friend selling a 750 double pumper in the box for 350 bucks. Last week I told him no because I had heard Holley was going out of business and that Edelbrock is now starting to sell similar carbs as Holley.

@heavymetalmadness6662 жыл бұрын
I personally think the carb market is going to die off sooner rather than later. The die-hard cab guys are going by the wayside, and if it is all about being cheap, it will be some China knockoff off on eBay they buy. I say this with daily driver type cars in mind. The efi systems are getting better and better for anyone to install on a mild engine and have better results. For instance, if you buy a carb, jet kit to make it right, wideband to monitor it where are you at money wise vs just going efi? I didn't go EFI on my car and the reason was kind of stupid and part lazy. I only wanted one fuel line running from the gas tank to the engine and I wanted it to look period correct. Maybe a bit more than period correct, but stock looking to someone that doesn't know enough. There will be some applications where they want carbs, more so in racing applications, but the writing on the wall has been there for around 20 years. In the past 10 for a fact when rest mods bring far more money than real cars if done right. The only reason I didn't put w modern drive line in my car is because it is a ford and nothing made sense to me. I'm sure the 7.3 was out yet and at this point in time is out of the budget. I did think eco boost if anything, and after working on some, I felt I hate Ford !!!!!!!!! Sound is also a vital part of the equation.

Holley is clearly putting the same minimum lackluster effort into their product as they are their advertising. I purchased two Holleys in 2022, a Slayer 600 and a Demon 650. Both went back where they came from and I tried and Edelbrock AVS2 for the first time which is a true gem in every aspect.

@timothyarnott35842 жыл бұрын
You obviously use smaller camshafts and non-aggresive motors......cuz the Edelbrock carb dont like any cam bigger than 230° at .050....and thats ok, but if you have a nasty cam and squeeze (compression) the Edelbrock works terrible, the 4150 is the only way....
@SweatyFatGuy2 жыл бұрын
@@timothyarnott3584 I am inclined to agree. I run 400 and 455 Pontiac engines, the secondary opening rate is way slow, and the carbs just don't flow enough air. Even the 800s are down on power with 224/228 cams in a 455... but a 224 cam in a 455 with worked iron heads is a 500hp+ engine too. I pulled he 800 Eddy off my 455 HO and put a Qjet on it, the car picked up 4 tenths and ran deep in the 12s. For daily driver 350s and most chevys they work fine, and if I wanted to put around using more gas than I have to and didn't know how to build carbs, they would work for me too. The only thing holding my Qjets back is the float bowl volume and single fuel inlet... I'm working on that. I have plenty of 4150 and 4160 Holleys, and some of the side hung float carbs too. No shortage of power with them.

I would like to think that the carburetor business is doing well, for 2 reasons. First, all the enthusiasts that have installed standalone EFI and had defective units or problems that have decided to sell it on Marketplace and go back to carburetion, and second, the growing movement of Gen Xers that spent 25+ years working on fuel injection and realize they enjoy the simpler mechanical fuel delivery life. It also helps that aftermarket tunability has become commonplace. Good vid.

I know this question is in the wrong video but it’s being asked to the right guy. #UncleTony… Will eliminating the the heater core hoses and plugging the water pump and block effect engine temperature? 58 Oldsmobile 371” cruiser. Around town, highway, maybe a few car shows, and church on Sunday. Thanks in advance!

While this is good news that Holley caught wind of your prediction and obviously wanted car guys to know you were FOS (LOL). What do they plan to do about their recent lackluster quality control? And, that is not a prediction. A very small bit of searching will find piles of youtube videos displaying this issue where your eyes can see the proof to back up the claims. I saw one video (I should have wrote down who it was) were a guy measured the mounting flange on a brand-new HP carb to be over .040" out of flat. That is a mile! On a brand new $900 carb. This is a problem. I have also seen countless garble on the net talking about how the quality of product from all the companies they keep buying up to monopolize the industry has just went to shit. Here is a little speculation from me! (Prove me wrong just like you did our Monk UT, Holley) Quality has suffered on all this product because corporate is only concerned with two things. Profit and ROI. And, bean-counters are the best tool for that. And, once they get involved? It all goes to shit.
