Nice breakdown. But to most of the folks watching this vid: your first film shoot on 16mm will probably be a BOLEX 16H with a wind up motor and a cheap led light panel if you’re lucky.

7:47 I think you mixed that up? The tungsten stock isn't 3200K itself. In fact they are blue because they are made to balance / neutralize warm tungsten light (3200-3300K) So the 6500K light seems extra blue on a "blue" filmstock"
@chrisajtony7 ай бұрын
Yes same as digital just neutralizing

The cinematography looks really well crafted and lends itself to the story, I like how you're focused on staying in the kids perspective, only thing I'd say it that the grade let's it down, I know from experience that any modern 16mm stock bar Ektachrome has the latitude to capture highlights, but it seems as though the roll off is pretty harsh, I bet it doesn't look like that in the raw. There also seems to be a bunch of like weird grain structure and selection happening in the bike scene as though the HDR wheels in resolve where being overbaked. I'd love to watch the final film though if it's somewhere as the lighting and on set work looks brilliant!

The Arriflex 416 was released in 2006, near the tail end of motion picture cameras being produced. Probably was discontinued in 2011 with all the other cameras. I think I heard once the 416 can take 35mm frame lenses as well.
@chrisajtonyАй бұрын
Yea SR3 and the 416 both have PL mounts so you can put almost any pl mount lens on their including 35mm glass. The cookes I used were for S35

@@chrisajtony More recently Dream Scenario with Nick Cage was shot on a 416 Pro. I like that people still shot super 16 professionally. Props to you for the great work on this short.

This is such a great breakdown of how it was done, have you thought about filming on digital then dumping onto film then back in the computer to edit? They did that for DUNE which looks amazing !

Awsome work👍,how do you match your meter to film camera?
@chrisajtony5 ай бұрын
Most of the time I would set my shutter to 180, frame rate to whatever I wanted that value to be and then my iso was always rated between 3/4 to 1 stop below the films iso rating. For example most of the time shooting with 500T I’d put my meter to 250iso. Then I’d read my light values in T stops and dial in the intensity of light based on that

Sadly won't ever really happen. 35mm stock is different now. There are hardly any cinemas doing film projection. Still lots of films shot on film, or converted to film prints, but that 70s look is long gone.
