19:55 In case if anyone wondering about this bell and what people are doing here, these pilgrims ring the bell equal times to how many times they visited the Sri Paada(Adam's peak). As an example if you visited two times, you can ring the bell 2 times. check 20.58
@RochelNilendra5 жыл бұрын
Amazing trip Conner. Love your inspirational words. The Bell that on top of the Peak symbolises how many times that you have been on top of the peak. So people ring the bell one time if it's the 1st time or 2 times if it's two times and it goes on. Another interesting fact is there is a Japanese monk living in Sri Lanka who has climbed the mountain peak 1313 times and he is still doing it.

Locals call it Sivanoli paatha malai, literally meaning foot print of God Shivan. Now you won't find anything remotely connected Hinduism. Few references you can find in the books written centuries ago. Originals were burnt with Jaffna library burning. When people have they promote what they believe. It's not different whether it's British or anyone else. Power corrupts.

To believe it as the Adam's peak or Sri Padaya is up to the individual's belief. Anyway, Adams's peak is not an incorrect name to the place. That's how it's been called in English (from whatever time) and the only way most foreigners get to know it. But yes, we've been always calling it Sri Padaya (or "siree paade" in more village accent) in Sinhala to identify it as the sacred footprint of the Lord Buddha. I also think there are long history records relating this place with Lord Buddha as compared to other stories which only came later.

Its true that hindus claim that this is Shivas footprint. And muslims and christians as Adams. Any of their scriptures dont support to that idea. No hindu scripture says that Shiva came to sri lanka and placed his footprint. Bible, kuran,hadis also dont talk about any kind of a footprint. But our buddhist scriprures older more than 2000 years tell it. And also we buddhists say the exact date the foot print was placed. so others, dont claim something that even your scriptures dont say. This is Lord Buddhas Foot print.
