It was pretty cool seeing Gus acting like a Dane puppy, she is usually pretty relaxed at home. Thanks for the great info.

My dane learned I needed my shoes if she wanted to go for a walk so she started bringing me my shoes when she wanted to go. Pretty soon she could respond to 'get my shoe.' She even knew to get the matched pair.

I have a similar thing in that I usually say “oh no” when I drop something- my Dane learnt that something needed picking up whenever I said it so often comes to that phrase!

Danes are such wonderful dogs. We sure miss our boy. They don't live as long as some other breeds but, they create such a sweet bond with their family. What a sweet girl Gus is!

It'd be easier to teach spin from a standing position over a sitting one so she would be less likely to lay down
@QuantumKatmusic Жыл бұрын
True, but the dog is so tall that at standing position she's practically nose to chest with the trainer which makes holding the treat in front of her harder, she'd probably be tempted to jump up to grab it , which she wouldn't have to even jump up much 😝. I'm no pro but I think part of what sit does is creates a starting point for the dog and trainer, also like he said , sit is a quick easy command to teach the dog that she will get a reward for completing a command / trick

I tried the link for the training but it only takes me to the site with no information about how to join or pricing or anything. Just the info and to log in which I obviously don’t have an account yet. Can you suggest a new link? I even searched the site myself and the same. I have a new Dane coming home in 3 weeks and I am trying to be as prepared as possible. Lol! Gus is a doll BTW!!! I really have enjoyed all of your videos!

Hi Iris, I just took a look on my phone and it seems that the site is having a temporary issue. I'm working on getting it corrected now, but if you browse to the same link (greatdanecare.com/dogfocus) on your computer it seems to show up correctly. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for bringing it to my attention!

Really enjoyed this ! Totally agree with the “relationship” goal that Brian (?) explained. Now, my Great Dane girl is 6-1/2 years old (~ 145 lbs). I can’t help but wonder if the course would still help her/us ? Oh - she knows this trick, but we call it “go round”. I need to introduce the empty/opposite hand treat dispensing !

I have a Dane of course but short arms. I am disabled and have a lot of grab canes and use them to extend my reach. I have found using a ball throw stick with the ball attached works really well for this kind of project as well. I get the dog to touch the ball and it gets a reward. So may think I'm adding a step to every task trained but when you are disabled you do what works for you 😏.

I'm going to guess she knows the "paw" command based on how often she offers it here looking for a treat.
@Swaggajuice3 жыл бұрын
My Dane does the same. First I thought I taught her to paw and sit in short interval so she gets confused when I tell her to sit she also picks up her paw but now that I've seen other Danes I figured Danes in general like to throw their paws.

Not sure about this Brian chap!!! letting dog jump all over the place..and confusing her.. he underestimates the Dane's intelligence. Gus is ''learning'' nothing except...''! I'm just getting those treats Duh!, but if he thinks I am going to do this party trick poodle stuff on command, he can KMA'"! To be honest I suspect Gus's owner is feeling a tad frustrated at the way this chap is confusing his dog. Sorry, I find this more than a little condescending to the dogs intelligence.
@sararing39073 жыл бұрын
I was reading thru these wondering why Gus was being allowed to jump. If my Great Dane would have done that to me it'd be a crisis. It's really hard to find good training videos and while I want to follow this channel IDK how I can support allowing this and teaching the Dane to turn around instead of not jumping first.
@aofpickering4 жыл бұрын
All credibility is lost with the amount of jumping Gus does, I like the videos and all but really? Chasing treats and jumping is the first thing you should be training them not to do.... Also there is zero discipline, positive reinforcement training works the best but you still need correct when your dog is misbehaving or jumping! Dude your dog is in control during this entire video...
