Tractor bucket works great to push t-posts in.
@smcox19915 жыл бұрын
You have a post pounder on wheels. Just get the t post started and push it in with the loader. Beat tie to build fence is in spring when the ground is super wet or after a good rain storm. This spring I put in about 200 8’ t posts I just got them pounded in by hand to the spade and then came back and pushed them in all the way down to about 60”. I also put in about 50 5” 8’ wood posts by pushing them in. But you need a big tractor to do that.

They answered this above. They tried, doesn't work there, too much rock.

You can use the tractor bucket to push the T-Posts into the ground. Have someone hold it and slowly set the bucket down on top/ flat and push it right into the ground.

T posts are easily driven in by the front loader on a tractor. I drove my big poles into the ground the same way, after sharpening the ground end into a point, then burning the outside like shou sugi ban for about 4-6 ft. Wont work on completely rocky ground unless you get a largish excavator to drive that style of post in. Did all three on my land, including driving long thick sharpened posts to provide supports for a crumbling driveyway on the side of a cliff. Worked like a charm (using the 20ton excavator to pound them in - not a single post cracked or split into two at any stage - straight into rocky, tough ground).

Yes, goats and pigs DO clear underbrush and help with property management. I was raised on a 40 acre goat farm. I enjoy watching you youngsters. I am proud of you for homeschooling your children . They are so much happier and healthier and more part of all you do than those who have to be "shipped' of to government schools like we were. Schools were better then, anyway, but still I am a definite advocate for homeschooling. I love how you are so kind and humane with your animals. I enjoy every video you put up. Plenty of fresh air, sunshine, and water, makes the kids grow up big strong an healthy ;) It IS hard work doing fencing like that, did some 500' runs for my uncles place, and it is work! Try to time it after rainy days so the soil is easier to work..but sometimes the weather doesn't allow that. Great job all of you, and great spot for it!

They make a better tool for driving those posts! Last fall, 4 of us replaced 30,000 feet of 5 strand barbed wire fencing on a Navy base (Next door to Camp Penelton, in SoCal), in 3 months. Luckily, we bought two gas powered post drivers. They are like a weed eater engine on a piston that drives the post. The drivers are around 60 pounds, so you need a strong tall guy to run the driver and a second person to hold the post and level it while it gets pounded in. We used the 4 way bucket on a backhoe to pull the old posts and setup vertical shafts on the sides of the backhoe bucket to hold rolls of wire on each side. After tying one end, we would drive the wires out many hundreds of feet and then tension them and tie them off. It sucked with the good tools and I hate to remember the few I drove with a sledge hammer as a teen just to make a temporary dog pen.

I use my bottom of my tractor bucket to press “T” post into the ground. If ground is hard do it in the spring or after much rain. I also set my wooden post with dry Quick Crete in the hole and pour a gallon of water into the mix. Beats having to mix and pour the concrete.

Goats and pigs are also great for when you are delimbing the lower sections of trees to make moving in the woods easier and reduce fire risks as they will eat the leaves and younger sections of the wood on the branches you drop and in some cases even debarking the branches. Toss them the leafy branches and in a day or two you have nothing but sticks left behind as they eat the softer materials and will rip them apart fighting over sections. The corner posts are the perfect place to put on ID plates saying when the work was done so in a few years when redoing the work you can keep track of exactly how long it lasted. Copper pipe scraps cut open then flattened give you a nice copper sheet to use and a punch set of numbers/letters will let you put the important info into the copper before you nail/screw the plate to the post. Also great for posts on property lines as you can list when the work was done and if the fence is right on the line or off by x inches/feet. For shorter term ID plates like for a garden aluminum cans make good materials but they don't last longer then a few seasons so good for tags you only need a year or two unless it is going to be inside a structure like a building info tag. One thing to watch for is how smart the animals are when around electric fencing as I have seen some push others into the fence to see if it is active

Find a welder add a 6” extension to your T post driver fill with concrete then seal the end. All you have to do is be able to lift the pile driver and let gravity do the work for you. We built our own drivers, each one weighed 40-50lbs, got a heck of a shoulder workout, but saved our hands in the process. I’ve done the bucket method of pushing post in, I never had luck in rocky terrain; always seemed to bend the post. I saw you put in one anchor for your corner post, couldn’t tell if you added another anchor to counter act the pull from the other direction. Everything looks amazing keep up the good work, I know it will all pay off in the end.
