You can’t see London in one day, let alone one week. I’ve been traveling to London for over 35 years and still haven’t seen everything I want to visit.

Matthew is officially my spirit animal lol I'm a huge English history nerd myself. Him describing it being surreal seeing Wellington's tomb is a feeling I TOTALLY understand. When I was last in London I was lucky enough to see the Bacton Altar cloth, which is almost certainly the only surviving dress (or at least constructed of that dress) of Queen Elizabeth I. I probably spent close to two hours in that room looking at every detail, and actually got a little teary eyed. Historical sites and artifacts spark the imagination, and make you feel like you can almost touch the past. The story of Anne Boleyn and her daughter Queen Elizabeth I is one of the biggest feminist FUs in history, and I've been obsessed for years. That's the thing about England. You feel like you're walking through Disneyland or a movie set and have to remind yourself it's all actually real. Go in January. Weird? Yes. Worth it? 100% I ended up in the crypts of Canterbury Cathedral all by myself. It was unreal. A priest came up behind me to tell me they were closing to the public and nearly scared me out of my skin. I thought he would pee himself laughing at me :) One of my favorite memories. What sacred places those cathedrals are. If you can attend an Evensong at any of them, even if you aren't a bit religious, do it.

They aren't proper fish n chips in London. You need to come up North for real fish n chips especially at the coast! No mushy peas or curry sauce?! 🫣

If you want to see the crown jewels without the queue, get there early, i.e. as soon as it opens for the day.

Hopefully my overkill in comments is helpful to the channel lol But anyway, couple more things. In the small building to the left of the Jewel Tower, St Peter Ad Vincula, Queen Anne Boleyn, her brother the Viscount Rochford, Queen Katherine Howard and many others who were victims of the Tower are buried. For tours in London, definitely check out Tours by Locals. They are walking tours that are "free" but it's expected to tip the guide. I've been on several there and other cities and they are just fantastic! The British Museum is incredible, but if you have time, don't miss the Museum of London. It takes you through the history of the city, all 2,000 years of it and is just incredible. Sigh, I need to get back there very soon, obviously!

Monarchs are King and Queen of Kingdoms and realms. England lost it's status as a Kingdom in 1707 during the reign of Queen Anne. As a result Anne was the last "Queen of England" (Queen Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms.

It was good that the river was at high tide when you were by the river, I think it looks so much better than at low tide.

Post #2, because I am so enjoying this: THANK YOU for at least making an attempt (and you've done well!) at pronouncing things correctly. Another cruise vlogger couple who I won't mention the name of insisted on calling the Thames the THaymes River, despite all the times people around him pronounced it correctly as The River 'Tems'. It got to the point of just being disrespectful. Even worse, him aping the accent, even to people from there he was dealing with at restaurants etc, gave me literal goosebumps of embarrassment. I feel like when we travel to other countries we should at least try to be respectful. If I were his wife I'd have thumped him, he was such an obnoxious ugly American. Matthew, you really are getting those most out of your travel and I'm so happy for you seeing these sites!

I love how people who don’t live in London feel free to comment on how bad London is because they only visited the tourist traps in the centre - London is more than 606 square miles in size (just London, not the hinterland or metropolitan area surrounding it) and so most people only see less than 10% of it. Most of London is just like the rest of the country, and not like the central touristy parts. You might not think to visit outside the central tourist places, but like the rest of the country there are also places worth visiting whether you like historic market towns with Roman or pre-England (pre the year 927) Anglo-Saxon ruins, pretty villages and hamlets, farms and open countryside, historic houses and gardens, museums etc.)

It's funny because I live about 30 mins, train ride away, from London and I avoid going there.
