I really appreciate Jess trying the underwear. As another person who can also have some really heavy periods, albeit with less pain that Jess said she gets, I was super hesitant to try any because I wasn't sure if they'd hold up to the flow or not, and I'm not in a place where I can afford to lose money to try things like that. It's also hard to find them in my size as a plus size girlie or if I can then they're, again, extremely outside of my price range. I also appreciate having Jess in this video because I'm also a person who only uses pads. I've tried using tampons and other insertables, and I just don't like the feeling of them, so there is no other option for me at this point. It's nice to see that representation because sometimes it really does seem like we're the odd ones out for just doing what works for us, so I genuinely thank you guys for including a spectrum of ladies in this video

I really highly recommend the Modibodi brand - they go up to a AU26 or something from memory, and lots of different flow strengths. What I like about them compared to other brands I’ve tried is that the absorbent area is merino wool…. It’s really comfortable, not smelly, environmentally friendly and draws moisture away better than other materials.

as a poor person, period underwear is saving me a ton of money. 6 pairs for $30 each vs $30 of pads and tampons every month....i've had my period undies for maybe 3 years now? they are also significantly more comfortable. cleaner as well. you don't have to change it every few hours. i wear one for daytime and one for nighttime. my period went from a week long to 3 days and very light. it's bc of the pads and tampons that make your period so heavy and long. give it a chance.

Sierra, I would recommend trying out a different fold method for inserting the cup. Coming from someone who has used a cup since I was 13, and I'm 21 now, the method they suggest SUCKS. I typically use the "punch down" method, and it just makes the cup into a significantly better shape to insert than the C-Fold. You can look up menstrual cup folds and see which one works and feels easier for you!

Okay so the cup never worked for me, getting it in and out? Impossible. I gave it 4 cycles and never again. A few years later I tried a reusable disk - life changing. @@tiffanymackey2083 I wonder if this is an anatomy quirk, I haven't had that issue with #2 before, but you two are definitely not the only ones either based on all the reviews I read before getting mine! My seating issues have only been from #1, I learned pretty early on that I need to empty my bladder before inserting, OR ELSE! tmi version below: Your bladder can press on it, which can cause it to leak if you don't pee often enough while it's inserted, but it was one of my first few cycles with a cup, and I didn't realize the pressure of a relatively full bladder would also prevent a seal upon insertion... until one day by chance I inserted first, THEN went #1, and it torpedoed out of me comically fast, so I had to re-boil it 🤣I had JUST got it cooled down from its original boil-of-the-month, so... at least the pan was still out 😂 Now I always hit the toilet first, even if I don't think I really need to, THEN insert, luckily never had the same issue again (although it only took one incident to condition me to be ready to catch it any time it shifts on the john, hahaha)

@hesfra I started using the disc because I couldn’t figure out the suction for the cup. I had a disposable disc that I had been given and gave that a try and got it to work on the very first try and haven’t gone back. I also like that it “empties” itself so I don’t need to worry about it leaking. I have the Saalt disc that I love but it’s also nice having the disposable option when I’m on the go and it’s a product that I’m used to. At the end of the day, I think it’s just personal preference and if you already have a cup and are totally happy with it, it might not make sense to switch but I think it’s a great option for people who don’t love (or can’t figure out) the suction part of the cup.

I used to use the cups for years until giving birth. After the first time, I noticed I couldn't get the cup to fit the same way anymore and tried a few other different brands. Couldn't get any to work anymore. Then saw the cora disc and tried that one. For whatever reason, the disc feels more comfortable for me now and works just as well as a cup did previous to pregnancies. Even after the second pregnancy, I have found the disc still works but the cups don't anymore. The cora disc is also reusable and has a one finger divit to make it easier to hook in and grab.

Just coming here to promote the Ruby Cup menstrual cup! For every menstrual cup you buy they donate one to a girl without access to period products. They last for 10 years and I'm on my second one. Highly recommend!

I’ve been using period panties for years now (modibodi brand) and I’m totally converted! I can use them alone if I want, but for extra security and longevity, I usually use them in conjunction with tampons. Even if I don’t think I’ll bleed through my tampon (or cup or disk) they make me feel at ease. I’m not worrying anymore if I’ll bleed through during a meeting or something. They’re definitely not as irritating as pads and you don’t have to worry about them being in the wrong position. They sell different absorbencies. I usually opt for max absorbency, again for security, but I appreciate lighter options if I’m wearing a thin pant and don’t want VPL. They even have thongs, swimwear, shorts, and leggings! Also, I’ve used them way over 30 times. I finally had to trash a few pairs when they were literally threadbare and falling apart after several years of use. I bought more and even plan to try them postpartum. Oh and 3-4 pairs is enough for me personally to cycle through them, wash, air dry, and wear again.

Looking at this wearing the SAME EXACT MODEL of Thinx is kinda wild lmao. I have been using mine for 4 years now, you'll never catch me go back to disposable pads or tampons lol

I use the flex disc but I always “empty” it when I use the bathroom. When you pee you naturally relax your pelvic muscles then the seal loosens and whatever is inside empty’s into the toilet. Do a kegel to reseal and you’re good to go. It’s not like a cup where you don’t have to empty for 12 hours because you’re supposed to empty when you use the bathroom but it can stay in there for 12 hours! I love my discs!

Absolutely not TMI, I love that we're becoming more comfortable talking about something that is completely normal for all women to experience! I personally am a pad and leak-proof underwear kind of girlie, I don't care for insertables I just can't do it. I have found various brands of reusable pads and absolutely LOVE them! I saved so much money (especially while being a poor college student) not buying new pads all the time. I super appreciate y'all trying Thinx! It was one of those that with the price of them I was so worried about trying a new brand that I wasn't sure about the accountability of so I LOVE knowing I could trust them by themselves. For anyone looking for a fun period underwater brand, I typically buy from Harebrained but I wouldn't trust them by themselves unless it's a light/spotting day but they help bring some humor into such an annoying timeframe for me.

Love to see this. I hate the cups, discs, regular pads and tampons after using thinx for 10 years. They literally changed my life. So comfortable and easy and no leaks. Literally maybe 3 in 10 years. And idc about the pfas, I may switch as mine give out but I love the thinx. I do agree the disc suck the most!

The diva cup is also one of the longest cups on the market, which is why you might be feeling it. You might need to try a different brand (or 5 different brands like me lol) to find one that works best for you! I bought the diva and could never *not* feel it… then I tried the June cup and it was SOO MUCH better!! They’re only $6-8 too so super affordable. It’s the only cup brand that I’ve tried that I love!!

Never TMI! But would love you guys to do another try video! Knix underwear is unmatched in my opinion! They also have swimwear and workout clothing with this in mind. Also the Nixit disk is a game changer!! I’d be so curious to see Rachel try that one!

For me, when first trying the cup I was struggling a bit putting it in. After I started using another fold (switched from u-fold to punchdown-fold) it got much easier. And that's what I've kept doing for years now. Works for me 👌

Hi Jess! A brand recommendation for you is Modibodi. They say up to 100 washes (but I’ve had a couple of my pairs for four years, and they’re only now at the point I’m going to replace them). The heavy flow ones have the absorbent part right the way to the waistline, which might be more comfortable for you too. They also do swimwear!

I was a diehard tampon/period underwear girly and had a friend recommend the disk and I tried a couple of brands and had a similar experience to Rachel. I found a waterbased lube helped get things situatuated easier for the disk and then tried the cup and did the same thing. Took the insert time down from 6ish minutes to about 2.

I love seeing all these comments - periods can feel like such an isolating experience, but this is a nice reminder that it's something so many of us go through. I love the cup, I used to sometimes get uncomfy with the small stick, so I bought one that doesn't have that and that made a huge improvement for me. I've never bothered with period pads because whenever I've looked at them in store, the sizing has not been inclusive at all, which was immediately disappointing.

I used to be a religious menstrual cup user, but I tried the reusable hello disc from period nirvana, and I’ve never looked back! I’m a marathon runner, and it helps with the weird feeling while running Sierra talked about. I also have super heavy periods, so the self-emptying is so so helpful. I haven’t had a leak since switching (but I did with the cups because of volume). Try the reusable disc and watch the period nirvana videos!

Love this! So educational!! I switched from pads to Knix period underwear a bit over a year ago and I could never go back! So convenient, so easy, less leaks and sooooo comfy for sleep! If anything, get sleep shorts for overnight. The absolute best thing ❤

Not gonna lie, period underwear is lowkey game-changing.I can now sleep soundly at night and not be stressed every morning. I have sensory issues so I could never with pads and even a sleeping on a towel feels weird to me ( basically I don’t fully sleep if I try to sleep on one, never grew out of it). I honestly just have a couple pairs of period undies and I am good to go whenever, wherever. It is helpful since I work in a lot of rural places so you can’t exactly just go grab some pads or tampons quick if you forget them or get caught off guard. If I had had that as a teen I would have never believed anyone if they said it would be available. Haven’t tried the swim versions but I think that is so cool.

I’ve been using a cup for 10 years and I’d never go back now. It’s so clean, cheap and comfortable. I prefer the brand Sea and Flo because it’s more flexible so easy to insert and I can even leave the stem hanging out without feeling it for easy removal!
@kla_6132 ай бұрын
I have a menstrual cup! Love it. In terms of getting used to it, I did remember reading it can take up to 2-3 period cycles to get used to the methods of inserting/taking the cup out. So don’t feel discouraged if it’s difficult to remove. I actually remove mine while on the toilet to avoid mess.

I have been using a menstrual disc for years and absolutely love them! I chose a disc over a cup because i was told by my dr that a cup can in some cases suction out or displace your IUD. I love the lumee resusable disc and i always keep a stash of the flex disc single use in my bags incase my period starts unexpectedly
@rachelgleason62613 ай бұрын
I tried the Flex discs first, to see if the idea worked for me, and I now have the rest of that pack stashed all over (one in each bathroom, one in the car, one in my diaper bag, one in my purse...) 😂
@jasminelambert37533 ай бұрын
Sierra you should try cutting the stem of your menstrual cup! It might be sticking out a little which it shouldn’t be because it causes chafing and discomfort. Rachel, your body might just be better suited for cups! I have a low cervix so small cups work much better for me than disks because the disk slips out from my pubic bone

I remember my first attempt to get a period cup in (I practiced a week before my period) and because I was nervous, I tensed up and it was soooo hard to get it to pop open, all the way up to where it’s supposed to be, and where I couldn’t feel it. Now as a veteran period cup user (almost 10 years now), it has been a GAME CHANGER. I love that I can put it in at 7am, take out, clean, and put back in at 7pm and then do it again the next morning. It’s been very rare that I’ve leaked and the times I have it’s because I’ve had a heavier flow than I was expecting and leaked around hour 10. I tried a reusable disc and absolutely hated it. It was so hard to get it to not leak, to get it in a comfortable position, and to ensure I had it tucked behind my public bone and not blocking my cervix. I got it because it was advertised as “mess free sex” and my man could feel it and it was just not an enjoyable experience because I couldn’t get it out after lol

Sierra, definitely keep using the cup!! I started using it at a similar age as Rachel and I never looked back!! Maybe you can watch some videos about how to insert it and take it out, I remember that I had really amazing instructions and once it clicked, it was soo easy and foolproof. I was on a trip recently where I had forgotten to bring my cup and had to go back to tampons for one period- UGH! Life is so much better with the cup. I also have never had problems having it in while exercising or running. Maybe you need a smaller size? I just came across a forum where a user recommends the website "put a cup in it" where you can do a quiz to help you find the right cup. Maybe that will help!
