I just started laughing after reading your comment, but because I kind of do the same thing learning thanks to them and also have a very funny time. This remembered my to a book (famous as far as I know) called a brave new world by Aldous Huxley, where if I do remember well there was a boy that was born in a place of the world we could say "primitive" but he had an Edgar Allan Poe book, and thanks to the book and the person who teached him to read, he ended up being able to express his thoughts and feeelings from what he readed on the book. Garnt really is the protagonist, with Joey being the good natured best friend, and Connor being the friendly rival who everyone's afraid of but who ultimately loses in the end. Even when it's not anime, these guys turn it into one.
