The thinner longer side of the steak is the NY strip, the smaller more round side of the steak is the fillet. And she is right, the NY strip side has more flavor, while the fillet side is more tender. I still like the boneless ribeye the best.

If memory serves me correctly, Delmonico's Steak in NYC is our oldest steakhouse in the USA. It has an outstanding reputation. It was Delmonico's that also became famous for the "Delmonico" cut of steak, which we call now call a ribeye. Years ago, I believe there was some sort of trademark argument over the use of other restaurants, butchers or supermarkets selling a cut of steak called a "Delmonico," hence what we have come to now know as a ribeye steak. I have relatives in the midwest that still call a ribeye steak a Delmonico though. Your Porterhouse looked delicious! Btw, I think you will have regrets being in NYC and not visiting some of their outstanding restaurants in Little Italy. If you are interested in suggests for Little Italy, let me know.

They use black garlic which is an aged version of white garlic. It's sweeter and milder than fresh garlic. The aging process makes it softer and a bit chewy and it's usually used in it's raw state since it gets more tough when you saute or roast it. It's preferred by some because it doesn't have that typical sharp garlic "bite". ☺

I have commented on a number of your videos about the high prices you have paid at various places, and if you remember me at all from one video to the next, you probably have the impression I'm either a pauper or a miser. But wow, the better part of $300 for a simple steak dinner for two? Everything did look absolutely excellent, just delicious, I will say. And I'm aware that Delmonico's is a well established, very highly regarded name in the business, and one must expect to pay for that kind of cachet. But ... that's paying pretty dearly. My 29 year old (single businesswoman) daughter loves to take me and my wife to Seattle's finest restaurants. We've spent nearly twice this amount on dinner for 3 (no cocktails) Its easy to do here and I consider it payback for all of the expensive meals we took her out for when we used to let her choose the restaurants as a kid. Back then, not only did she manage to choose the most expensive restaurants to celebrate her birthdays, graduations etc but she used to choose the ones furthest away from our home so we'd end up driving to the most distant parts of the county. Secretly, I hated the driving more than paying those obscene prices for meals. IMO, the best steak in New York, perhaps the country, can be eaten at Peter Luger's, either at their Brooklyn location or the one in Great Neck in Long Island. So, the original Delmonico's was opened in 1827, and basically was the originator of American fine dining and also created a restaurant empire at the time with several locations available. The original family just closed all the restaurants in 1923, so 96 years' operating. It was then reopened by an Italian immigrant in 1926 at its current location (and the new restaurants they've added since of course) and has now been running for 98 years. Pretty good run I'd say. The best steak in America is eaten at my house off my grill. I’m a butcher of 34 years ambience is great in fancy expensive steak houses.but well prepared properly seasoned,and perfectly cooked can be done at home.

Wagyu for $250.00? Oof that's pricey! The Porterhouse for 2 looked like the best thing on the menu. Leave it to Delmonico's to make imported salmon look inexpensive. Holy Ned $38.00 for mushroom risotto. I'm sitting her dying for one of your pommes frites - they just look like they were cooked in beef fat. The best French fries I've ever had like that were in Puerto Vallarta and we pigged out on them from room service every night. They had house made catsup that was to die for. Still, I think that Delmonico's can keep theirs at $15.00. You're paying for the name! Thanks for another fabulous video! Well, I guess, check it off your bucket list. Now are you going to find the best Chinese food in New York? They have the most amazing dumplings at Pacificana.

Just a dropped comment: Found out you've relocated to San Diego! Wonderful! There's a place called "Not Not Tacos" run by fellow KZbinr Sam the Cooking Guy. Put it on your list, he's good! A lot of American food is, I'm sure you're discovering, comfort-oriented. Unless you're on some "diet", like Mediterranean, keto, paleo, vegan, carnivore or even the old Atkins, you're going to find a lot of comfort.

I want to say that steakhouses aren't worth it, but they are there for a certain clientele. A one off experience is great. $300 is not an average person's meal, even if split 4 ways. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is rarefied air.

Thanks for your comment! $300 for a steak dinner is definitely a splurge, but it was a special occasion.

You are correct that the tenderloin has less flavor compared to other cuts-fat conveys flavor, and the strip steak has more of it. Fat also insulates, so it's not unusual for the fillet to cook slightly faster. The fries are served as if you are expected to eat them with your fingers. If they were meant to be eaten with a fork they would have been served on a plate.

I don't know if it's looked down upon, but I don't think I'd care, I'd pick up the bone and clean it. I love the meat next to the bone, so good... I have to say, if you're looking for a good cut of meat that shouldn't cost much, skirt steak is awesome if done well.

I have eaten there a number of times . The food is very good . They also have an excellent wine list which I noticed that you did not partake of . It is quite pricey because they get a lot of Wall Street types for whom price doesn't matter. Because they were a wine customer of the company at which I worked, I ate there to sort of show the flag and let them know that we support our customers by buying from them also , I was on the company expense account , so the price wasn't a concern for me and I had to buy a bottle of one of our wines with the meal .
@thebritstry6 ай бұрын
It's great to hear you've had a positive experience there! We loved it! Next time we should try the wine. Let us know if there is anywhere else we should try in the future?

I was just looking at a big Tomahawk steak at Walmart, I did not see the weight of it, but I would guess at least 2 lbs. maybe 2.5 lbs. and it was only $47. Which is a pretty good price, it would easily feed 2 people. At a restaurant that would be a $100 steak, if not more.
