Legendary family run sandwich shop. Few UK tourists make the trip to Red Hook to visit this gem. Well done lads. Came here in 2014, had the roast beef, mozzarella & eggplant, and the steak pizzaiola. There sandwiches are well worth the high score.

That area is known as Red Hook, Years ago it was referred to as South Brooklyn. The Deli catered to the rough and tumble Longshoremen. There is a movie titled "Last exit to Brooklyn" It's about this neighborhood in the 1950's. Viewer discretion is advised.

These are the old school NYC vibes. None of this waiting in line for Instagram food (and admittedly some of that food is absolute fire, most of it absolute bollocks as yall would say). If your local deli doesn't know your name after you've come a few times, find a new deli. As good as the ingredients are, if the bread isn't the star (almost always needs to be semolina bread w/ sesame), also... find a new deli. If everything isn't fresh (same day) and scratch made, from fresh mozarella to all the braised meats... find a new deli. My personal favorites: Defonte's in Brooklyn, Faicco's in Manhattan, Fiore's in Hoboken (just across the Hudson in Jersey, and my personal favorite)

There's plenty of sandwich places all over New York City it's the king of sandwiches throughout the world too bad they're closed otherwise I would have recommend Carnegie deli their sandwiches are ridiculous there's also Junior's deli in Brooklyn which is really known for roast beef 🍖 I think also they use a roast beef similar to a London broil so if you're British you might want to check it out also they have a very dark gravy

Amazing, there is a sandwich shop in Astoria called Sals the king of sandwiches it’s in Astoria queens. All the cops and fighter fighters and corrections officers eats there and the locals.

​@@FoodReviewClubUK To be honest, and knowing what I do about East Coast cities, it wouldn't surprise me if they get their bread from a traditional Italian American bakery within 10 blocks, who themselves likely have storied history. A lot of these establishments have formed bonds and familial ties generation after generation, and work together to support one another. These culturally rich pockets within a lot of the older (older in regards to our existence and evolution as a nation--we know y'all got us beat on ACTUAL history) East Coast cities of the U.S. operate as a network of hard working families and they've helped form the backbone of a lot of our communities for 100s of years. Thank you for placing an emphasis on that in your videos--it's wildly important to our narrative, as I am certain it is in countless other places across the world. Be well.
