You know, because the rest of history happened in the Despicable Me universe, we can assume WW2 happened and that Hitler existed. Now, minions always follow the most evil leader, so one of two things must be true: 1, the minions worked with Hitler or 2, the minions don’t think Hitler was evil. Because the minions were in an Arctic cave during WW2 we can assume 2 is true because they didn’t work with him, therefore the minions don’t have think Hitler is evil.

As they were, indeed, in that arctic cave as the movie says, that would mean that the minions, as long as they didn’t know about hitler when he was alive, would not have to serve him or think him as not evil. While this theory is partially contradicted to the narration and how it says the serve the most evil master, not the most evil master they have found. I assume the narration is wrong, though, as we never get shown a time where they have a “minion sense” and can find the most evil master just by existing, and as they swap masters from Scarlet Overkill to Gru, only after they saw him do something “evil.” The only other explanation for this would be that the second Gru took the crown, he became the evilest person in the world, but hadn’t been before. The minions also stay after Gru turns goods, which is because of their loyalty, which means they don’t HAVE to follow the evilest master ALL the time, but try to find the evilest master then stick with them until they somehow stop working together.

I was born in 2001, the only Micheal Keaton films I really ever saw when I was a growing up was Beetlejuice and Batman, but I always saw Beetlejuice more because apparently I loved Batman Forever haha, and when this movie was announced and a trailer came out up until I went and saw it I was so scared it’d be bad. Especially since Tim Burton hasn’t really had many great films recently, but to my surprise I loved it! It’s like he and the cast, minus you know who, just stepped right back where they were.
