The back story between Beckett and Jack is amazing, and it gives a lot more depth and understanding to key aspects of this movie. The basic idea is that Jack used to be a privateer working for the government and the East Indian Trading Company in a ship called the Wicked Wench. For his last job, Beckett order Jack to transport some "cargo" from Europe/Africa to the new world, of course the cargo this time was 100 slaves. Jack did not like that, and he ended up betraying the government, turning into a pirate and freeing all the slaves. As punishment, Beckett set the Wicked Wench on fire and was lost at sea, Jack while trying to save the ship managed to get Devy Jones to bring the ship back from the depths (13 years capitan follow by 100 years of service) and due to all the fire damage, the ship was completely black, getting rename as the Black Pearl. Moving forward to this movie, when Devy Jones asks for 100 souls or 100 years of servitude, it's not a random number, it's actually due to the number of slaves.

"Davy Jones' locker" is an old expression meaning the bottom of the sea. The Flying Dutchman is a legendary ghost ship, the inspiration for Wagner's opera of the same name and for a memorable story by Carl Barks in a 1959 Uncle Scrooge comic book, though both of these are (to put it mildly) extremely loose adaptations of the legend.

how the monkey is still cursed is explained at the end credit scene in the first movie, I guess you guys missed it. or no one told you about the end credit scenes for EACH movie. also, Jack singing "I got a jar of dirt" was completely unscripted, as was his fall down the stairs.

"release the Kraken" is from Clash of the Titans (1981), a great classic, with creature animation by legendary Ray Harryhausen. A remake was made in 2010 and a sequel to that called Wrath of the Titans. These two were lesser movies but were for modern viewers.

Theres confusion among fans about wills situation with the dutchman and soul. IF Wills father had not joined the table in the spot that he did, Will would have lost. At the time he was playing the game, his soul was not bound to the dutcman as the deal was not settled between Jsck and Davey. Will put his soul on the line and said it didnt .atter if he won or lost, he just needed to know where the key was. Will, as usual, was ignorantly wrong. If he lost to Davey, then his soul would be bound to the ship, not Davey. When they join service, they dont join Davey, they join the ship. And they all become a part of the ship. Thats why the crew looks all cursed. Wills father, bootstrap, poaitioned himself between davey and will, also allowing him to make a sacrafice to save wills soul. Theres an extended cut of the movie that adds these extra scenes, and it explains the ship and screw aspect as well as the game. Cant fathom why it was cut.

the deleted scenes of the franchise are criminal, the scene explaining why jacks soul is worth 100 is particularly impactful. He freed an entire slave ship of the East Indian trading company therefore his soul is worth more than the average man.

They crew is cursed because of Davey Jones tho. The ship doesn't change them just because. Jones stopped ferrying souls and that's when the curse took hold. If he went back to ferrying souls then the crew would look normal. Albeit still have to serve 100 years on the Dutchman. But other then that yes correct ^-^

So either he's not doing his job, which I see as unlikely, or you slowly transform regardless. Movie does not really explain these subtleties well and the studio cutting content that talks about it is less than helpful.

Jones did not take away the black spot. the spot was a reminder that Jack had to pay his debt, and Jones gave Jack three more days to pay up. once the three days were up, the spot came back to remind Jack that he had a debt to pay.

I find it hilarious and awesome that Bill Nighy was Davy Jones, as well as Viktor from Underworld, Rufus Scrimgeour from Harry Potter, and Howard Clifford from Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Quite the interesting career for that guy. The fact that that "I've got a jar of dirt" singing taunt was completely improv'd by Johnny Depp is also hilarious to me.

Fun little trivia fact, the sailor who tells Will that he saw Jack on the island mentions 'sweet long pork', long pork is slang for human meat. The French speaking guy on the dinghy wouldn't go to shore because of the cannibals but since Will wasn't keen on that slang(nor did he speak French) he didn't know.

the compass points to the thing Jack desires most (or who ever holds it desires most I should say) And Jack isn't acting drunk, he walks "funny" on land because hes got his sea legs, the rocking of the boat on the roll of the waves hes lived with almost his whole life so when he stands/walks on solid gound he goes wobbly as hes instinctively weaving/waving around as he would on a boat to stay upright.

I’ll explain the dice game. Liar’s Dice is a gambling game. Each player has their own cup of dice they can peek at during the round. (Optional: 1s are wild). Each turn, you must either increase the dice count and/or the face, or increase the count to switch to a lower face. In a multi-round version, the loser of the callout loses one die, which is removed from play. For the film, I’ll assume 1s aren’t wild. Davy Jones lost the moment Bootstrap joined and started the game. That’s because only Boostrap can call out Will and make him lose; but Will can call out Davy Jones to win. Bootstrap opened with three 2s, to tell Will how he can help. Davy Jones bluffs four 4s, to see Will’s reaction. Will plays it straight, four fives. Now Davy Jones knows Wyll likely has three 5s, and believes Bootstrap and Davy Jones have few to none. Bootstrap says five 3s; he can’t help Will, and they all know it. Davy Jones knows his own cup has four 5s, and Will likely three. Davy Jones bids seven 5s. If Will calls, he loses. Will bids eight 5s. If Davy Jones could break turn order and call, Will loses. Bootstrap disrespects Davy Jones. He says “psych, I had five 5s under my cup the entire time. Call me out or be afraid of me.” All within him saying “twelve 5s.” Davy Jones calls Bootstrap, angrily revealing his dice to confirm rather than formally call. Bootstrap loses.

Flying Dutchman and The Black Pearl were twins.. And They are fastest ships at entire world.. And Both of them were Davy Jones's ships.. Davy Jones leased the ship Black Pearl to Jack for 13 years..In return he would take her soul for being a crew.. But Jack could only captain that ship for 2 years. At the end of 2 years, Barbossa staged a mutiny and seized the ship. (He was Jack's helmsman).. Now you say which one of them is the fastest right? .. It depends the condition of wind.. If the wind is blowing towards you, The Flying Dutchman become the fastest ship..Because the sailcloths of that ship has so many big holes, the wind can't slow it down..But if the wind blows from behind to your front then the fastest ship become The Black Pearl.. Same condition..Her sails make her faster

The Liam Neeson 2010 remake of Clash Of The Titans it the film he says "Release The Kraken". Liam Neeson plays Zeus. That Kraken is not like this Kraken. Before you watch it you should watch the Original 1981 that stared Laurence Olivier as Zeus.

A good chunk of people both boys and girls had posters of him on their wall back in the day. Girls = Hot pirate love story of the Caribbean, Boys = Legolas awesome fighting style. It was never a problem for me, maybe now in hindsight it's a little bland but whatever it never bothered me while watching Lotr or Pirates to the point I could no longer see the character and only the actor. Maybe the epicness of these films helps to mask it but what do I know?

No Davey Jones is not a real pirate. He's one of MANY famous sea folklores. He basically represent hell or the afterlife/abyss for pirates or seafarers in-general.
