Tom, keep the boom stationary as you lower the blade on the shear grab, helps to reduce the size of the void you find under the clean cut from the knives👍
@SvenLippens12 жыл бұрын
Or maybe even put some down pressure on the grab before lowering the blade since the blade is trying to lift the grab when cutting

Well me father often told me when I was just a lad A sailor's life is very hard, the food is always bad But now I've joined the navy, I'm aboard a man-o-war And now I've found a sailor ain't a sailor any more Don't haul on the rope, don't climb up the mast If you see a sailing ship it might be your last Just get your civvies ready for another run-ashore A sailor ain't a sailor, ain't a sailor anymore

If you edge the blade of the sheer grab and the centre blade it will help to have a cleaner cut and don’t move the the boom when taking a bite of silage.
@juliesoane73992 жыл бұрын
Loving the contrast between UK and USA. They use a machine that shaves the face of the silage leaving it very smooth. The shaved silage is then picked up with a loader. Still love to watch you all!😊
@willianvos35212 жыл бұрын
It's the same for a mixingwagon
@thetessellater91632 жыл бұрын
That seems so much better, because you can take a thin layer off the whole face for each batch, thus helping to keep the silage 'fresh', I'd imagine.

We've got one of those grabs Ive found that by keeping constant pressure driving into the face while grabbing makes all the difference, also the voids are where your taking to much silage, so the top of the frame on the head stock side line up the top of the block you want to cut then it should meet up

Make your old shear grabs into bale spikes that can pick up 2 rounds or squares. Just cut off the grab part and take some tines out, it’s what we did with our old shear grab
@peterclarke33002 жыл бұрын
Great video Tom and the grab is not that old plus you know were it came from which makes a big difference it looks like a good one 👏👏👍👍
@cncpreferred8482 жыл бұрын
Tom, if you need to weld something to stay and you have to do multiple pass welds, most people just lay the first line and then just add the additional lines. What you need to do is after every pass/line, you need to grind off the high spots and if there are any valleys and there usually are for people that are not pro welders), grind down to it so there is a clean wide open surface to add the next line/pass. If not, there will be many voids/gaps in the weld, which leads to cracks and welds failing. I am not a pro welder, but my welds are good enough to be X-Rayed like they would for critical flawless welds for pipelines or other critical needs. Even if it isn't going to be there permanently you will find that it is easier to cut through the welds with a torch. It makes a cleaner cut and this makes it less work to grind the surface smooth again. A few seconds during the welding will save you tens-of-minutes/hours later.
@gethinjones13482 жыл бұрын
Great video Tom, you got the right grab in the end. Maybe the cutting edge needs filing/grinding to be more razor sharp too?
@bearplant2 жыл бұрын
Get a sanding disc for your small grinder to touch up the blades. Once it's shined up with a bit of regular use again it will be easier on the tines.
@kf6942 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom loving the Videos, if you want to keep your pit as tidy as possible when you are using the sheer grab close your grad fully the open it about 5 - 6 inches before pulling out from the pit, it will leave your face cleaner for you.

Needs down pressure on the grab before cutting also before lifting out open the grab up a foot then lift out you will get a full cut face rather than it pulling the bottom bit out👍
@dylanwilliams29542 жыл бұрын
Tom just lightly buff up the blades of the grab with a flap disk, just don't press to hard, keep them sharp. The slightest burr will make a big difference to how clean they cut. Good choice btw.

Great grabs we have one at work. When cutting aim a bit higher up so cut the void from the last grab and you will get a smooth face to lock out the air. Ps only getting half grabs isn't a bad thing this time or year as you will cut across the face 2x as quick to avoid spoil. Great video keep it up 👌

Just a quick tip we upsized the quick release couplings on our sheargrab from 1/2" to 3/4 and it definitely speeded up the close time Also try opening the grab about 6 inches after closing it fully before you reverse back ..it leaves a super clean finish on the face of the pit
