Horizone Redback VS Armex Tron - 80lb Crossbow Tests
Tests shown are using the horizone redback 80lb pistol crossbow and Armex Tron 80lb pistol crossbow, featuring dimension caparisons, Draw Weight using scales,
Power tests against a weighted knock down target.
Penetration tests against a catalogue,
and water filled bottles and wood penetration tests.
None of these tests are particularly accurate but do show the differences between the new 80lb horizone redback and armex tron crossbows on the market, if i am correct with my calculations the Hori-zone should be hitting at either 15.5ft/lb or 29ft/lb - either way it's very powerful.

Great Video. Do you know where I can buy an armex tron pistol crossbow? I can't find one for sale anywhere on the Internet. I would buy a used one if you know of any. I know the redback are a bit stronger but I simply prefer the cocking handle System on the tron.

The shorter prod to string length means the red back has an even larger “effective” draw length, because the string spends more time in contact with the bolt and accelerating it.

Great review!!! Love my Redback. The Tron is sharp looking kit but the Redback is just better. The safety system and trigger setup are top knotch. The price of the Tron makes it a good second choice!

Love your vids weapons collector. Just got me a tomcat 2, Love the stock on it. Relaced the fore grip it comes with a stubby grip, and banged a tactical torch/laser on there. Perfect for home defence.

i'll tell you what mate for £20 its bloody decent, and still better in every way than the old armex pistol crossbows, well worth £20, i'm very happy with it even if it is a little weaker than the £50 redback.

Fair play mike, you aced this comparison... You might be able to squeeze more power out of the horizone by swapping the strings over and fitting a spare spacer from one of your "parts" pistol bows.... Twisting the string helps to mike... I will be getting one next week if they have any left mate

Cheers Tumbo, I'll be honest with you mate i so hoped they were the same, saves people having to buy one over the other or giving one more potential sales. if its cheaper Tumbo you got always get a horizone prod when they are available, and i shall look into doing those small mods, would make that horizone prod true 80 or more then i reckon, as for the Tron - its still better than all the old armex's so its still a decent purchase i think, especially for £20

I was wondering what the new Tron would do against the redback, was a great test and very informative, i have the Tron the wife bought me for crimbo, very impressed by it, but like Jeremy Clarkson iam always out for MORE POWER! I'm just getting into it now my son has a bolt seeker and he got me a bolt pulse only 28 pds but when i tried his 80 pd seeker I had to have an 80 pd also So he got me the bolt impact power series I twist string The max 6 turns lots of fun powerful made my own shoulder stock with PVC easier to cock and looks tactical

On cocking.... Hold it with the left hand on the forward pistol grip. Extend left arm out straight while pulling back on the cocking leaver with the right hand

I agree, the redback is a strongest one and loocks much cooler as the other crossbow. I shoot the redback for two yaers, and she is today allways dangures. Best Regards from Germany.

Hey Mike I just found all your pistol crossbow comparison videos, not just saying this because we know each other, but your comparison videos are the best I have found on KZbin, I love your disc power tests and scale tests on the draw weights, really impressed mate, good job. I was going to buy the Tron and the Tomcat II, do you think it's worth getting both of them? Or would you only get 1 if you was buying again. What one do you think is overall better.

Cheers mate, these test videos are certainly popular, The Tomcat II is defo the better of the two, but i would say for the price the Tron is worth getting but its defo a little weaker than the Horizone redback and Armex Tomcat II, I think i'd still get both if cheap enough, the tron would be useful if injured as can still be cocked one hand easily and it's still more powerful than the old 80lbs crossbows, the tomcat II is as good as the horizone but has the stock and i think with that one it just comes down to personal preference whether you'll use the stock or not (for me its way to short unless you use a red dot then its good.) but yeah, if cheap (£25 ish for tron) i'd get both, but the tron is weaker than the Tomcat, but easier to cock etc. Hope that helps mate, and cheers for watching.

@@WeaponCollector I think the test with the Horizone vs Tomcat 2 will be same as the Horizone v Tron as Iam assuming that the Tron and new Tomcat 2 are identical in dimensions and power and everything apart from the cocking mechanism. I bought the Tron as its smaller than the new Tomcat 2 and you dont have to shoulder it, i love the Tron and when its back in stock will be buying the Horizone limb/prod to put that on it. I received my Hori Zone about two weeks ago. With less than 100 shots, I had to replace the bowstring serving. I found a great video and got the tool/serving for around $15 USD. Very easy and quite satisfying to replace it. Glad it's not an expensive or involved process. My question is, why did the serving come unraveled after only a few shots on what is supposed to be a great CB pistol? Is this normal?

Does the red back prod have more power then the armex? If so ill replace it when back in stock. Also it's a shame they don't do broadheads for the pistol bolts

That was interesting, I thought they'd be closer tbh. never the less I'd say the Tron is still good VFM ( especially for £20 ). Actually, thinking about it, the Tron might have an advantage in taking less effort to cock as this will make it more suitable for more people to use. Either way, I wouldn't want to get hit by either of them lol. On another note, I see Cold Steel are selling a crossbow they call " The Cheap Shot ". It's the Cobra R9 with some green plastic bits ad a 130lb prod. They haven't actually claimed that they designed it, but they certainly give the impression that they did. Which is rather naughty really lol ( especially as it's quite a bit more expensive. More than a prod would cost anyway ).

I will say one thing though - the Tron is still better than all the old style pistol crossbows in features and power, its just out of the top 3 crossbows its 3rd, still a good purchase mate and in these recent times you might struggle to get the others anyway.

The Tron would still be less powerful with the redback prod. But only slightly so due to diminished draw length.

Also has anybody tried putting a 120lb crossbow prod onto a pistol crossbow? Would it work in making it a more powerful and compact package? Would it damage the pistol crossbow? would it cycle the pistol crossbow bolts? Iam just putting it out there. Would be interesting but wouldnt want anybody injured in the process. I'm not sure, i always get worried that the trigger mech might not be able to hold the added strength and break while loading a bolt, what 120 prods are there? is it that one for the R9 crossbow? if its a rifle prod i doubt these would fit it or if it did wouldn't have a long enough draw to have decent power, plus it would be wider then than the crossbow is long.
