I love Gustin! I discovered them a few years ago and I now have an wonderful collection of their work wear, particularly high end Japanese denim (check out the Persimmon and Sea Green Plant Indigo dyes). The only tricky part is figuring out sizing - I am a 34 in Gustin and a 32 in every other pair of pants I own. Also, yes the Vintage Heavyweight t-shirts are great in both short and long sleeves.

Gave these a shot and it was a disaster. I'm a 32 comfortably in all jeans and got these is 34. I could not even button them and quite frankly I am not sure a 35 would have worked, I would have had to go up 4 sizes to a 36. However even with a 36 it would not mattered as the crotch is soo tight it's almost impossible to pull them up. Just beware to anyone buying from these boutiques it's essentially a gamble. Glad they worked for you though Dale. Love your channel!!

Crazy, my selvedge denim journey started with Momotaro as well. 😃 I did some digging and learned that buying them from a U.S. based retailer vs. a Japanese based online store like Denimio in Yokohama was and remains sub-optimal. IMHO at least. I have 2 pairs of them, a 0905SP ("Going to battle" Classic Straight) and a 15THB09 (15th Anniversary Broken Twill GTBs, same fit). Total in USD for BOTH pair was $378 with the 10% 1st time buyer discount. When the anniversary pair ended up being out of stock, they refunded my payment *immediately*. When I realized they ran a bit small, it took one email, a $30 fee for a pre-filled out DHL envelope, and 5 minutes spent meeting the DHL driver at my apartment. The jeans arrived back in Japan and I had a full refund in my account in 7 business days. That's roughly 1/4 the time it took to get a refund from Truman when my first ordered pair of boots from them ended up being too small. Their T&C allows for a 15 business day hold, and in my experience they hold your refund for every last second allowed. I acknowledge there could be a legitimate business reason for this, it's just hard to determine what that is when Grant Stone policy and practice is to issue refunds in either 2 or 3 business days. Between getting stuck with a huge store credit, and foregoing 30 bucks to be able to return an item or items for ANY reason, I personally know which I would choose every time. I believe Okayama Denim has a similar policy. Between those two online merchants they carry just about all of the notable Japanese clothing manufacturers including Oni Denim, Pure Blue Japan, Samurai, Momotaro, and so forth. If there's a downside, their stock tends to sell quickly. Make sure you are on their mailing lists, and keep an eye out when an email from them hits your inbox. I absolutely love the idea of Gustin, there's no question they make some absolutely beautiful shirts and denim. If there is a downside, they don't seem to have any offerings for customers who are even on the border of being considered "Big and Tall." At 6'4" 270ish with a build most closely resembling a refrigerator, I haven't been able to find a cut in their denim or other pants that will fit me. Momotaro, N&F, Oni, PBJ, Full Count, Left Field, Shockoe Atelier & Raleigh Denim all have some version of a straight cut jean / chino. As in roomy in the top block and thigh, then moving to either a matching hem or a mild taper from the knee down. I'm a big fan of what I've seen and heard about Gustin, but I agree with your assessment of their refund and exchange policy. If and when they decide to include traditional straight cut jeans in their product offerings I look forward to giving them a try! Cheers all! 🍺

i can relate to feeling on the border with being able to fit in gustin. i think their straight jeans are closer to most brands slim straight. the button down shirts are awesome but too tight unless i am fasting. the horween leather jackets are super stiff and awesome but a slimmer fit then schott for example but also three hundred or more bucks less.

I love Gustin. But after trying on several of their jeans and chinos, i gave up. None of their three fits fit my body well. I wished that they offered skinny with med to high rise. Their skinny's rise is too low. Their slim is too baggy. Though they did let me know recently that they're expanding this fit, so I am excited to hear that!

How does Gustin get to a third of the price of a Japanese denim jean apart from the crowd funding concept? If you compare pricing, I would like to know how the actual product may differ in quality, make, production, etc.
@bobjohnson63212 ай бұрын
i don't have all the answers but a few guesses, minimal effort to promote their products, basic website, passable but simple product photography, low effort social media presence. their headquarters are right next store to one of the last remaining sizable cut and sew factories in san fran.

i do like gustin the prices are unbeatable. the brand doesnt offer much of a story or cool factor just pragmatic. the jeans, tshirts, horween leather jackets, are fantastic deals and have been in my rotation for years. the button down shirts are tight for me, so i gave up unless they consider a true relaxed fit, the chinos top out at 38 waist, the buttons fell off of most of my henleys.

The waiting and pricing has always turned me off. Seen a lot of qc issues also. If you like slim button ups grab Iron Heart. Their xs go fast on the nice launches. And they're expensive. No risk though. If you know your measurements. Can't help you with the flat earth nonsense. Where did that even come from?

gustin creates artificial shortage of their stocks. always with limited stuff you can't buy all the time. i don't like it. it irks me all to hell. i'd rather have something that's always available. i like consistency. what if the product you buy had a defect? then you had to return it but still wanted the same product? then you're f'd coz you can't. they're all out. not gonna support brand like that.
