I don't know much about fighters, and listening to this made me realize that I had a few stereotypes about them that he totally got rid of in this conversation. Thanks for having a variety of people on the podcast!

Honestly it's a shame this doesn't have more views. Martial arts is beautiful, it's much more than just beating the shit out of each other, but unsurprisingly the MMA world can be extremely toxic. Being vulnerable and expressing emotions other than anger is often looked down upon. Especially for the men in the sport. Having a legend like GSP show that it's ok to be vulnerable is super important. We need people like that young boys can look up to. Someone who can be tough, successful champion, but also vulnerable and not cocky. Not the type of person who calls another man "gay" as an insult because he cries.

I respect and appreciate GSP and how he conducted himself with so much class in his MMA career. Like all of us he’s still a work in progress, still a person who was born into and indoctrinated with performance-based capitalist and patriarchal values. It’s hard to shake that esp when you learn that for survival, but I can tell he’s working hard on it, working hard to connect more with his vulnerability and emotions. He’s come so far on his journey though and I’m proud of him and I admire him for it! Keep going GSP keep going! And thank you for helping us to redefine what it means to be man enough

It seemed really hard for him to open up in subjects that he's not normally talking about, but he's a great man and a great example for a lot of people. Very sensitive. But I personally feel like he still believes in a lot of what partiarchy tell us (if that makes sense), like when he said something like you have to be the best in your career, no matter which career you choose, I was just thinking... isn't what we're trying to deconstruct here... But anyway, I really do believe he's a great and sensitive guy and I admire this MMA star for opening up still! 🙌🏼

I strongly agree with what you said regarding his comment on being the best in whatever career you choose. That comment felt like a repeat of so many motivational speeches that basically tell you to commit countless hours in following a goal no matter what. I think many people switching out of competitive fields (whether they were famous or not beforehand), need to experience a reality check that being the absolute best in a different field only adds to the unhealthy relationship they have with "success".

Thanks for sparking a really valuable conversation! All of our guests definitely come with their own relationships/understanding to this work and we are grateful to have a guest like GSP that was truly sensitive in a way that those who look up to him might not typically associate with his career path. Plenty of work ahead, but we appreciate you being here and this dialogue.

I recently learned the story of Beowulf, who is known for his three strong fights with monsters and leading major battles. The part of the story I love the most is that he as a King was a kind benevolent leader with peace in the land for many years. I was so happy to see that in this famous ancient story! I think letting go of what felt like one's core to who they were can be hard. (VERY hard) and Georges speaks so well to preparing for a rich life, and flexibility when an era ends. And, regarding his holding in the tears at his grandmother's grave, I look forward to the times when men can feel the love and heartswell when they express thrir truth in those moments.

And I do agree that GSP didn't go as deep as he could've. Because a lot of things he's said he's said in other interviews. I don't think he's comfortable with getting too deep into his personal life which is totally understandable. But much respect to him for coming on this show and opening up!
