Weather Presenter Ruth Dodsworth: ‘Financial Abuse Left Our Family With Nothing’ | Loose Women

In April 2021, ITV Wales weather forecaster Ruth Dodsworth's ex-husband was sentenced to three years in prison for a campaign of abuse against her, including coercive behaviour and stalking. He was released after serving 18 months in prison. In April 2022, Ruth joined us to discuss her terrifying ordeal and how she felt about his impending release. Over a year later, Ruth and her daughter Grace join us to discuss the often unseen financial side of an abusive relationship, something 1 in 5 people will experience in their lifetime. And Grace will be telling us about the effect her father’s stalking and coercive behaviour had on the family.

I earned the money … he didn’t take it, but he didn’t pay for anything… I paid the bills, the mortgage, the food and I did all the work around the home. He said he wasn’t earning anything…always had money to “invest” in himself though. That’s how they take your money.

Katie Piper has had a procedure (tarsosorrhaphy) to temporarily close her left eye to hopefully save her eye . She has a severe infection and damage in her left eye and hopefully sealing her eye shut will allow her cornea time to heal . She's such a brave woman and she has been through so much . I hope this procedure works .

Awful but let’s not forget the majority of women who live entirely off their husbands. It’s accepted as perfectly normal but when the roles are reversed, men are ridiculed or accused of taking advantage.

I willingly supported my Partner who could not work because of ill health, while he ran the household so I was the only one earning a wage but he NEVER EVER did to me what her husband did to her.
