Usually i'm in a Discord call with my friends. Watching them play as I do the more tedious bits of any build. Helps keep me sane, especially after sooooo many stencils on a Phantom.

The trick to doing stencils on a Phantom is pick a scheme where they painted over them with temporary camouflage!

That finished result is in my opinion spot on 👍🏻 If I was able to jump in a Time Machine back to Turtle Bay, your rendering of your Corsairs is what I’d expect to see. Some great tips across the videos .

Fantastic build, fella! Watched all 1 - 5. I'm just getting started on the, Tamiya 1/48. F4U 1D. I've taken a few things away with me from your video. And to take that extra time with all those photo's of the real thing, too!. Great stuff! Thank you. 👍🌟

mate, great job on these kits. an you're a legend for taking the time to share all of the techniques. it's so helpful, I built my first corsair with my kids and we had a ball. we have watched this to prepare, and now ready for the next build, a Foke Wulf. But like you, I'm keen on the 1/32. only comment I would make, is photograph on a darker background as well as the white, for your final reveal. it will add depth and contrast to you hard work.

Good to hear - get into it - consider getting an Arii or old tool Hasegawa or Academy kit for a couple of bucks to use as a paint mule alongside, it really helps the hesitation with trying out weathering and painting, cheers Chris

I'm a Corsair fan, built 3 of these Tamiya kits & I've done this sort of Weathering on a pair of die-cast 48th Hobbymaster models (which are quite nice). I'm on with your taste in depth of Weather on these & other ground based pacific birds...Very Nice!🤗

Amazing the effort you've put in on these. They look great. We learnt so much too. I hope there's model magazines out there knocking on your door for articles. As for podcasts, I like The Dollop and The Dork-o-motive podcasts. I like watching anything. Some more 1/35 armour or 1/32 aircraft kits would be good.

Oh thanks - magazine article would be good day I guess...I've got a couple 1/35 armour kits to tackle very soon, while another 1/32 aircraft is possible (I want to do some more experiments with motorised props) - just bought a Mig-3 from Trumpeter which looks like a perfect candidate. Thanks again, cheers Chris

Wow. Nice job. I’m super impressed and looking forward to trying these techniques on the big brother, the 1/32 Tamiya Corsair. I’ve heard and seen horror stories masking over hairspray. You had success painting in the dont walk lines with no paint pull up when taking the tape off. I already purchased a masking set for the insignia. I don’t trust the decals. Give the Modelgeeks podcast a listen. 4 old Navy guys who build exceptional models.

I've made two of these Tamiya 1/48 Corsairs - the decals on the first one died horribly using my usual process with room temp water. The second time round I used quite warm water and it came out perfectly - I have the mark setter/mark softener but shifted to the Microscale product and found it worked great. For good measure I'll occasionally pull out the hairdryer if I want to ensure a nice tight fit around curvatures.
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly right Alex - I use nearly boiling hot water on Tamiya decals to sometimes make them work (just did this on some F-16 stencils) and their own decal solution too although its hit and miss - sometimes microscale, sometimes mr mark setter, all depends. I prefer to mask and paint if I can these days...I should have done that with these markings! Cheers Chris

Q-tip is a _massive_ brand name for "cotton swabs" in 'Merica, plus it's also only two short syllables to spit out. "Skil-saw" is another iconic brand name when referring in _reality_ to a "circular saw"! I'm quite certain there's more than a few iconic brand names that are used as household names for certain products used underneath the equator too. 🤪

Incredible stuff. I'm currently building a replica of a family member's B-24. I spent about two hours yesterday weathering/chipping it the old fashioned way. After doing so, I realized that I went too far. It was too "uniform". I ran across one of your videos yesterday and you mentioned how the brain can't do "random". Man, is that right!!! Went back and sprayed over most of it to try again!!! :) Another thing you mentioned in one of your videos is how your family and friends regularly ask you for your models when they're complete. But do you ever sell them, because they're fantastic!!!
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels Жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael - and I'm glad I was able to help, its the only reason I do these videos is to get others to give it a go! I actually will start selling my models, as I'm running out of room even with a new huge display cabinet....cheers Chris

Can you describe the basics of weathering...how long to wait before wiping panel line accent with a cotton bud and which thinners to use, preferences for paints: acrylic, enamel or lacquer, etc. thanks for the excellent video, focus, lighting and color are all good...love your work...
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels Жыл бұрын
Check out my "how to paint/weather a tank in seven steps video" - a bit old but the principles are the same. Generally I let the enamel pin wash sit for at least 10-20 minutes before hitting it with a cotton bud using enamel thinner or odorless spirits (I like the Mona Lisa brand). I much prefer lacquer paint for spraying, I can control it better than enamels or acrylics, but they have their place. Cheers chris

excellent video series, will be great reference for my douglas dauntkess 1:48 build. a crappy old revell bit gives loads of room ro add scratch detailing. i will have to watch this a few times to get your painting and weathering tecunique, really helpful. quick question, did the decaks look too clean im comparison to the rest of the fab weathering? would you consider stencils and spray fie the stars? then chip them as well? ma y thanks. excelent video series! Love the Corsair and the Kits from Tamiya are just a blast to build! I also realy dig your video about the 1:144 U boat! How about building an oponent for that one? Revell got a 1:44 Flower Class destroyer that seems to be a nice kit and I would love to see what you could make out of that one. Also its pretty cheap so there is that :D Have a great day and greetings to down under!

Both models look great. Have you tried the newish Tamiya Mark Fit super strong decal setting solution? It seems to work well with the Tamiya thick decals that I have used. Just test it on your clear and paint surface before using it. It must be pretty strong stuff as it ate through my Alclad Aqua gloss and AK Real Colour paint while the regular Mark fit strong was fine. However it seemed fine on Tamiya clears and XF paint and various lacquer paints/clears. Also I hear Walthers Solvaset works well on Tamiya decals but is hard to find. Again it's strong stuff so test it first to see how it effects your clear/paint/decal surface.
@beckersmodels

Thanks - I havent tried the Mark fit super strong, but will add it to the collection. I have a Gunze product that's hot as well. Definitely test first. Solvaset is near impossible to get here in Australia. Cheers, Chris

My experience with Tamiya decals basically matches yours. They are very thick, yet tear apart very easily. Kits are of really good quality, but decals, not so much....
@beckersmodels
@beckersmodels 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah its a shame but they are getting somewhat better in their more recent releases - still a bit thick, but not as much as the past, and more robust.
