I disagree about nobody noticing compression and other subtle effects. They may not be able to say "omg I love the compression on this track." But the cumulative effect of all of these subtle effects like compression and saturation makes a huge difference in the long run and is really what seperates an okay mix from an amazing mix, and possibly even a good song to an amazing song.

I don’t understand compressors like why wouldn’t you just change the volume of the sound?
@DodgaOfficial
@DodgaOfficial 5 ай бұрын
@@ProdKodaa its not really about adjusting the volume, it's about adjusting dynamics and transients. Transients are the initial burst of audio that happens say when a drum sound hits. With a compressor you can emphasize the transients to make it more snappy. You can bring out more detail in audio that would be a serious pain to do manually, if you have an audio clip where there is a lot of range in dynamics, meaning some parts get quiet and some parts gets loud, you can use a compressor to make the quiet parts loud and the loud parts a little quieter to make it more even and more audible. Doing that manually would be a pain, especially for like a 3 minute vocal, so a compressor is there to help you achieve that. Its not really for adjusting volume how you're thinking, you wouldn't use a compressor if half your vocal was overall one volume and then the last half was quieter, you'd just adjust the volume on that, it's more about the overall sound after you've equalized the volume.

There should be leagues or ranked divisions for music producers and where they can upload the beats. Type beats should be like novice/rookie. Then intermediate is your own sound. After that could be veteran status showing real placements.

Definitely a Reaper loyalist here. I definitely see what you're saying about the plugin UI but keep in mind this is by design. The installer is a microscopic 15 MB for example. I do love eye candy plugins and interfaces though and have plenty of third-party stuff but I personally wouldn't change the ugly UI. Plenty of eye candy options that I like their priorities.

Use reaper to mix and to house your paid plugs. Shit's absolutely fantastic and has functionality literally not found in other daws. I don't use the stock plugs tho, they're not even intuitively set up with the fx parameter ranges, and they're known to have bugs. If you don't have a nice plugin collection, use a different daw, but if you do, hard to beat reaper when it comes to the mixdown specifically.

type beats really depend, some just go for the average, some go beyond for creativity (or even show a certain respect for the kinda music it was based on if given in the details if I hear so in it), some just really stand alone and should be left alone because it's too worth being rhymed on. the things you mentioned about bitwig are all true. but there's even more to it. 1. routing is way easier in bitwig than in most other daws. you can basically put signals right in the middle of some effect chain without having to make that a group or a bus or stuff like that. multiband-container, mid/side-container etc. makes things really easy 2. you can modulate every plugin parameter, across all plugins of a given effect chain with multiple modulators and there are a lot of them. that results in a workflow where you tend to go crazier than you would in other daws.

Hi all Huge PC, desktop, laptop, who cares. Personally my last PC laptop is very powerful compare to my old huge tower PC. On my side, I use Cubase. This is not because I pretend that this DAW is better than Ableton, FL or Bitwig, this is because I use it since 25 years and it's more a question of workflow. There are great songs out there composed with Ableton, FL and other DAW, I don't think Cubase is better but I still use it. Same thing applied for plugins. When I play with formant on vocals, does alterboys sound better than Waves vocal bender or stock plugin in Cubase? The three of them have different quality and I use all of them depending on what I want. The fact is that I loose idea or concentration quickly, I need to go fast and i use tools that permit this. Probably, if I were new to music production I would have choosen Ableton because Cubase is very complicated at a first glance, but today it's the reverse process I can't use Ableton because the change of workflow is too complicated for me and I do music for my pleasure, with not enough time to learn another daw. Sorry for my poor English which is very terrible 😂

Not gonna lie, it took me 8 months to fully learn Reaper. It is fully customizable, the whole DAW has new skins you can change the entire appearance now. Tukan Studios makes us free plugins that look much better than the stock stuff, they are comparable to Waves products and he has 20 years or more experience in the industry. The scripts and customization are what make it awesome. The articulation program called Reaticulate is the best for any DAW, I make my own custom articulation banks for my orchestral libraries, I cannot do this in any other DAW. Not this detailed, not even close. I learned this from someone who makes music for video games and anime who uses Reaper. I follow a lot of composers and they all use Cubase and i worry about them not having this kind of power. They don't know what they are missing.

Reaper is my most favorite DAW to use cause of it being lightweight yet it's software is meant mainly for audio quality which makes it great.

Reaper is the most customizable DAW out there, there's not competition on the same level.

@Mister Scoops 'A wild fox appears in the reply' Oh hai, I use Reaaaaaper too. Reaper has no competition. It is by far the best DAW. Don't tell the pro tools users, they will spontaneously combust.

Same with vocal presets. Sure it a start for someone who is not familiar how to use certain plugins.

Bitwig imo is like Legos, with Legos you can make star wars ships that captures little details or it can just be as simple as spelling out your name using square blocks. In Bitwig you can dive in to the grid and pretty much able to replicate any plugins given you have the knowledge (and time) or you can just make beats quick without even entering the grid and just using stock presets and fx. Theres this free grid preset in Bitwig that replicates sp404 effects.

Also, I do think Bitwig is the DAW of the future, along with Reaper both have incredibly RELEVANT unique features that no one else is really implementing. Bitwig being a fully modular workstation and Reaper a fully customizable workstation. You like something you tried on Ableton Live, Studio One and FL Studio? You can just...implement that on Reaper. You want complete control over what every parameter of your plugin is doing? You have 50 modulation types and countless possibilities with Bitwig... I'd also mention The Grid (which is powerful AF) but M4L got a good portion covered.
