I had a couple-weeks stay at a children's hospital as a kid and my room had a computer in it. This was the height of the Webkinz craze and my dad wanted to get me one to cheer me up, but they were sold out everywhere. A nurse had told him that the hospital sold Webkinz in the gift shop, but it turned out to be Shining Stars. He got me one anyway bc he thought they were cute and figured it was something I could look into to take my mind off things. I named that Star "OUCH" played it for a few minutes, then logged back into Webkinz. (I do still cherish my Lion Shining Star tho, all these years later).

U.B Funkeys figures are definitely derivative of vinyl figures and art toys: A unique blank slate with different customisations that all look cool and make you want to collect them. It's a concept I genuinely like, especially for the collecting aspect, but I can tell it was more a hassle to buy the pod and different figures to unlock new things with than it was to just buy one toy and have all features accessible that way, and that's probably why it didn't take off.

fun detail about the bearville cafe roleplay! i distinctly remember having the option to “work” a couple selected jobs, like cashier/teacher/server/etc (that’s what the blue uniforms and stars over people’s heads were indicating). your actions and chat options would become limited to whatever you were working as, which is why they all had perfect grammar lmao. every workable job area was staffed exclusively by other players, which made it really cute. i can’t recall if you got paid for working, though i think if you did good enough over multiple shifts, you’d get certain items as a reward. i hopped between webkinz, lpso, and bearville as a kid, so this video was basically like crack for me LMAO

Me and my family absolutely LOVED U.B. Funkeys. Whenever we had a family shopping trip, I would always save up my money and spend it on new funkey's and get all excited to come home to play their respective games and see what new items they had in their shops. In the past year, me and my mum actually started properly collecting all the funkey's and we've managed to get every single one in each different rarity, except for the henchman figure - which I consider one of my proudest achievements in life 😂

I was pretty happy when Ty launched 2.0 as I was one of the unlucky kids whose single webkinz had a code that'd been sniped before I could play. I actually still have all three of my 2.0 beanies (two pink cats and one black cat). Some bizarre memories of the website include: the fact that the chat system wouldn't let you type numbers as part of the filter system, but would let you ask people how old they were as one of prewritten questions, so we had to find workarounds (I remember feeling very clever saying "dozen" to mean 12), and one of the songs that played when you decorated your room was "Life is a Highway". The 2008-ness of it all... I was also a Snootz hater even at that age; somehow his voice is even more grating than I remember. I'd also completely forgotten about the Bratz virtual world, despite having one of those, too (the purple one with the panda). I guess that speaks to how much I actually played it.

Webkinz was obviously my favorite and the GOAT, but I was also OBSESSED with buildabearville. I wish I could go back and play it again so badly. I agree, it’s visually so appealing. What I adore is that it looks like all the backgrounds are hand painted like it’s a storybook. There was always SO much to do on there. Like Webkinz, the longer you played, the more rewarding it felt, because you’d collect rare items and new things were always popping up. They also had a whole ass soundtrack??? Game recognize game For me, if you want me to get hooked on your Webkinz knock-off, you gotta have amazing mini games. And buildabearville did for SURE. Similarly, I think that’s why I enjoyed Shining Stars tbh!! I never had high expectations for it like I did for Webkinz, but I feel like I remember enjoying the mini games and I appreciated that they at least had a theme to the whole website. Hopefully the Build-a-Bearville Rewritten being a fan project for the fans will successfully come back and not get pulled by Build a Bear like Disney has done with Club Penguin comebacks, which my sympathies goes out to all the people that just wanted to relive their childhoods again and Disney took that opportunity away, really quite sad.

God, I really wish we had more screenshots and videos to Beanie Babies 2.0, the shops and games were my favorite things in the world when I played them as a small child, and not a whole lot got archived about it, at least to my knowledge. I'd adore if a bunch of now adult Beanie Babies fans made a 3.0 version remaster trying their best to remake the game from scratch- though referencing what little was archived and everyone's memories. (And yes, that includes the horryfying desert shop bunny that went actually insane to the point the shop had to close for a second as a "gag." That was TERRYFYING to me as a kid. Certainly one way to make me remember to carry enough money to buy things from the shops tho.)

I loved Rescue Pets as a kid, probably because it was the first virtual world I ever heard of. Never knew about the 3d version though, that looks like... something else. And yeah, I don't remember Snootz being like that. Somehow as a kid he just seemed normal.

I was on beanie babies 2.0 a lot as a kid. But interestingly it wasn’t even using the virtual world that much. I think it was the page that led to the login page, but there was a space with a bunch of videos to click through. It must have been whatever was “viral” at the time on KZbin. But I spent hours there watching the videos because I was not aware/allowed on KZbin at the time.

i had completely forgotten about shining stars..the website looked familiar but what really made me know i had one as a kid was the song from the singing plush. i completely missed out on lpso but build a bear ville was one of my favs.. i would check in everyday (iirc i think i had issues where my account would be broken) but man i miss it. i think my webkinz account is since long gone... but i might revisit it.

I think an honorary mention that most people don’t know about is My E Pets!! I’d love to see you do a video or talk about that bizarre website and toy brand that seems to have faded from existence during what I can only assume was its peak popularity! There were unfinished parts of the map that literally never got done because it got discontinued! So strange. When I wasn’t on webkinz or go girls games I was on My E Pets!

As a child I was briefly obessed with trying to find a way to play with my 2009 american girl doll on Innerstar University. There was no way to retroactively get a code, and there was no way I was ever going to be able to afford a second doll just to gain full access to a game.

Okay, I actually have the Shining Stars snowy owl. I didn't know that it was for an online game, I just found it cute and was kinda floored when I recognized the star symbol on the footage. I also have the LPS cat and didn't know about the game for that either. I actually played Bella Sara and the Build a Bear game with my older sister and definitely did not expect the former to be mentioned so that was a nice surprise.

I’ve played webkinz and bear like and when I tell you I spent so much more time on bear like than webkinz because there was so much to do! I loved it until one day I couldn’t login anymore and lost EVERYTHING. I cried so much that day because I really did play that much. Someone’s trying to recreate it to make it free for everyone just like club penguin. Hopefully they can!

I was really an Animal Jam kid, so I'm very lucky that my main childhood virtual online world is still up and running, but I just keep going back to how much I miss Fantage! I feel like nobody ever talks about Fantage, but it was my whole life before Animal Jam. The art style, the customizations, the freaking fairy grotto- I would give my soul to be able to play it again.. Sadly the only two revival attempts I heard of fell through and the company who owned it have absolutely no intention of rebooting or continuing the fanchise.. It genuinely breaks my heart that I couldn't even log on for the farwell celebration because the computers I had acess to couldn't load the website (it was already breaking down, even before the death of Flash). I would pay money to a legit group of devs to make a rewritten version..

I loved the beanie babies game as a kid. also, had a weird obsession with snoots. I completely forgot he had a voice though. I think i also had a shining stars plush too? specifically the rabbit but i lost the code before i could ever use the site. Also, had a HUGE obsession with the 2d My E Pets (didn't even know there was a 3D one) and had so many of those plushies. I think i lost them somehow while moving though :( But yeah, clicked this video because My E Pets was what i immediately thought of and was waiting for it to be mentioned.

Ones I had were the pink anemonefish and the bannerfish ones, might've had a couple others but those were the ones I remember (might've also had the pufferfish one?). Don't remember what the actual game was like though, but from the footage in this video, maybe that's for the best (I... probably only got the Seapals because I really liked fish/marine life in general when I was younger)

Dude my entire childhood and teen years were Webkinz. I convinced my grandparents to take me to the Webkinz tour thing. I got like 3 Webkinz out of it. I had over 100 of them (including the Dalmatian which is special to me bc my late grandfather whom I was SUPER close to gave it to me before he passed). Something I remember about Rescue Pets (My Epets) is that your pet couldn't have the same name as another player. So I had Brownie and Oreo, but really they were named something like Br0wnie4510 and oO-R-E-Oo. Kangaroos in the yard. An online toy I got as a kid was Test Tube Aliens. I was so excited to try it online, but guess what? It wouldn't let me sign up. So I had the toy but could never play the games... I'm not sure why that was but I was so upset lol.
