I have a question? Is the a dowery involved with the marriage? I know that arranged marriages with those requirements are still in place in some countries. Does this affect that cost of what is spent for the wedding, the reception, the traditions, and the gold ornaments, the professional makeup, hair, and all of the clothing and foods etc.? I am asking because I have known some Indian friends who came to America in order to not follow those traditions, as well as from other countries that still have arranged marriages. ( I know that this still happens in the USA, I am going by what the people I have become friends with over time.)

Their inlaws pay for her dresses while she pays for his chlothes. She pays for the first day, his family for the second. Trouble is: they are very different socially. She is the main earner and could easily afford the first day, so we only see that small instant when his chlothes did not suit him properly. Maybe he gained a bit around the waist. The repeated “take it to Poppa D, explain it to him, I know he will not refuse" pissed me off, she knew the old man was saving face so as not to appear poor to the public and she took advantage of it to push unnecessary excesses on his budget while keeping her family completely out of it. The wedding planners were just helping her push her agenda of making her father-in-law spend more. One of the major duties of the wedding planner is to help the couple marry their expectations with reality. I can promise you that the after the wedding drama with the In-laws will be ugly. Hope they last anyway!

I’d be furious. Not a single one of her ideas outspends the amount of money his family would be taking care of for the guests the imposed on the couple. Is all her behavior understandable? No I actually think she’s insufferable. But interesting how no one peeped that he essentially penny pinched her after the father in law said he’d pay to expand her vision to meet 1000 extra people. And how he never put his foot down on how many additional people would be there, never advocated for any compromise or a plan to get the needs met…. just essentially enforced that she should suck it up and have a tacky wedding outside of what she/they envisioned bc HIS family wanna invite randos.

The bride is a piece of work, I agree. But maybe they should have balanced the guest list a bit more. Like 150 guests for the bride and 150 guests for the groom. Inviting 900 people of whom the bride does not know 700 people is a waste of money.
@amolpreetkaur34432 жыл бұрын
That's how it happens in India. The wedding function is from the bride's side, where her side of the family invited the people they know. And the reception is from the groom's side and they invite their social circle. Indian culture is huge on family and community, so cousins and their families, friends, co workers etc. If someone is a part of social circle, they are invited . It's really different from what you guys have, it's a waste of money ya, but it is what it is. Consequently, we do go to go on way more weddings than you guys too
@Isa-de2yf2 жыл бұрын
@@amolpreetkaur3443 well, I m just saying that the family should not complain about her choice of dress and its price tag when they go and spend money on invitations to their dentist, his wife and their secretary. It's equally as stupid. She has a point here - in particular since she seems westernized to the point where she finds the extend of the guest list bothersome. Obviously, the family did not consult her about the guest list. I am pretty sure not every Indian wedding is like this. Only those who can afford it/ or want to seem like they can afford it would celebrate like that. And I seem to remember the Indian government outlawed some of these practices because families were put under insane financial pressure just so they could marry their daughters off. Here, I would call this living beyond your means. Don't spent money you don't have. That 85,000 dollars would have been more than a nice down payment to a family home in Germany. It's absurd. One day with 900 guests, 8 outfit changes and fake snow versus a nice roof over my head.... Hmmmm.
