That animated has the first version published the second one however has a few extra bits like when Odysseus yells his name it sounds a lot angrier and emotional it’s amazing😮! (The Troy saga also has an updated version tho that ones a bit more similar to the original.)

It’s not just speculation based on the songs. In certain translations of some of the original Greek epics that mention Polyphemus he is portrayed as quite young for a cyclops. While he may not have been a baby or a toddler, he was far from a full adult.

One thing that makes remember them extra sad is the fact that they couldn't properly bury their comrades. In ancient Greece it was believed that if a person wasn't properly buried they couldn't pass into the underworld for 100 years, if they were forgotten before they could cross their spirits would fade. Ody is essentially saying in this song we must remember them so they can one day cross the styx.

fun fact!: in warrior of the mind athena sings "MIIIIIIIINNNND" but when she meets odysessus she sings the same belt but odysessus adds his own riffs to it the last mind they both sing that riff showing they have a special bond. its also shown in my good bye when she sings the first "THIS IS MY GOODBYE" she uses odysessus"s riff is warrior of the mind but the last this is my goodbye she sings her original note in warrior of the mind which shows that their bond has been broken. that same riff will comeback in the future!

To be fair to Ody, he didn't know the cave was inhabited or that the sheep belonged to anyone. He did say that they were "just travellers who come on peace", then after Polyphemus saw the sheep, grabbed him and tried to eat him, he pulled the lotus trick. So he didn't have many options in that scenario, and he did try to be peaceful when it was possible.

I don’t know if anyone’s pointed it out here, but someone else noticed in Wolfy’s Remember Them animatic 20:00 that Odysseus looks like he’s drawing his sword across his neck when he gives his identity to the Cyclops, pretty much rubbing in that this is the exact moment that he dooms himself and his crew.

In Scylla Odysseus gave Eurylochos a Torch meaning he was ready to sacrifice his Brother (in-law) who is also his one of his Childhood friends AND the Second in Command. Odysseus trying to sacrifice Eurylochos is literally the thing Odyssey should have not done since his Entire Crew lost faith in him since he didn’t even hesitate the Second Most important person which meant that Odysseus could sacrifice them even quicker. For the Warrior of the Mind he made really stupid decision.

You mentioned trying to read the expressions to understand. Fan animations don’t all have canon elements in them, though Athena was hurt by that, as you can hear in the music and Jay revealed in a livestream release. Just something to keep in mind about these fan interpretations, not everything is official, like how Mircsy’s (absolutely terrifying) cyclops isn’t canon. You were right in that sound indicating her appearing in his head, though. It’s called ‘Quick Thought’. Conversations between Athena and other people can last however long they want, while only a second passes in the outside world. It’s cool… except that the other person gets no say as to when they’re pulled in- “This way, you’re out of my head now. This way, you won’t plague my life.”

As Ody's lawyer, I'll defend him. They did kill the pet, but they had no idea it was one and thought it was a wild animal. As soon as they realized it was the Cyclops, they wanted to leave but was grabbed by the Cyclops who threatened to eat them. Ody came up with the idea of the lotus wine trade, which acted as a sedative. If the Cyclops was peaceful, then he would sleep and wake up in a bit with no harm done. If he wasn't, then the wine would save the lives of Ody/his men. Even when Ody had the opportunity to kill the blind Cyclops, he chose to spare him mercifully. #FreeOdy!

As a member of the jury, I fully agree. Obviously the cyclops has a right to be upset about the sheep, but Odysseus took steps to make up for his mistake and the cyclops overreacted, BIG time, by trying to kill the entire crew. I think Ody is fully justified in what he did

when athena is first introduced, her high notes are always straightfoward. when she meets odysseus in Warrior of the Mind, they start harmonizing and athena adapts his little riff into her singing, showing their bond. in My Goodbye, they continue the riffs until the very end where athena sings the last note in the straight forward way she started off, severing her connection with odysseus both physically and musically

Hope you enjoyed the cyclops saga 😭😭😭 some more notes! 1) due to a revenue sharing issue with Jorge’s original production company, he pulled a Taylor swift and re-recorded the first two sagas with updated vocals and instruments! Sadly some of the main animatics (mainly wolfies) don’t use the updated vocals, so I would totally recommend listening to the new versions in your own time 😊 (Teagan’s (Athena’s) updated vocals are godly 2) that “womp womp womp womp” with Athena’s entrance is supposed to represent something called quick thought! It’s basically like a mindscape power that allows her to interact with others by making their thoughts move super fast (general idea at least) 3) You shall see in the wisdom saga how Athena felt about his words 🤔

In fact, some Greek gods and goddesses became attached to mortals, such as Apollo, although they more often preferred the company of lesser deities. It's just that Athena doesn't even have close relationships with other immortals, most likely she never forgave herself for accidentally killing Pallas. The exception was Hephaestus, but it also ended badly there (which was not her fault). Even with Zeus, although they have a very warm relationship (she never found out that he was the real culprit of Pallas's death), I can't remember a moment when this was somehow expressed in their conversations.

24:10 Good catch, and it's even more clear and intentional than that: the melody is a direct callback of the lines "If you're *looking for a mentor* I'll make sure your time's well spent" (and right after that young Odysseus says "sounds like a plan, Goddess and man bestest of *friends* !") There's a ton more callbacks, lyrical mirrors and reprised motifs, even just in these songs, you can catch lots by relistening as you remember previous songs 😊

Some trivia for you: Polyphemus is described as being young for a Cyclops The wine Odysseus offered was a gift from Dionysus, the god of wine and madness; it really was 'the world's best tasting wine' In ancient Greece, if you died without the proper burial rites, you couldn't pay your way over the Styx into the afterlife and depending on the telling you either couldn't ever get to the afterlife or you had to wait around 100 years. Now I don't know about y'all, but the versions I read literally described him as the cyclops king. Not to mention that there are versions where Ody didn't kill any sheep. The only version of the odyssey I read was in an English textbook only telling the cyclops saga and it also said he was like the respectable leader, even having the other giants refer to him sorta like a brother. Are you referring to the parts where Odysseus is telling the Phoecians about his journeys? Because that section is used to highlight how big of a liar and manipulator Odysseus is. In the section where they actually go to the island it would be pretty hard for any interpretation to place him as a “king of giants” as his profession was clearly a shepherd. But if you know the translation you read I’d love to check it out!

I love this saga from a story perspective, it really has a lot of hard hitting moments. As youve noticed, Jorge uses a lot of callbacks, so try to remember lyrics. They will often come back later. I agree that Athenas reaction shows she still cares, because any other mortal would have gotten smote for talking to her like that. Also, Teagan releases solo music under the name TE/MO, which I personally highly recommend

Yeah you can’t help but feel bad for Poly. Poor little big guy. Teagan truly is so talented. That goes for all the cast really but I have to say Teagan is in my top three for this musical. Every time she sings I get super excited. Oh My Goodbye… I understand where both of them are coming from to some extent. Athena is right, Ody was incredibly reckless with some of his choices made in this saga. HOWEVER! Athena came at this all wrong. The man is grieving the loss of his men and she just comes in like “wow bro, you really messed that up and let your emotions lead.” So of course Ody gets defensive, fires back at her which only drives the wedge deeper. Hubris and poor communication. Truly the downfall of so much. Can’t wait for the next one.

I’m sure someone else has said this, but in Ancient Greece, it was a commonly held belief that if people were not buried properly, they wouldn’t ever be able to reach the other side of the river Styx in the afterlife. It makes “remember them” so much more tragic, because Odysseus is saying that all they can do for Polities and the other fallen crew mates is to remember them, as they don’t have time to give them all a proper burial

Something really interesting about Polyphemus (I have no idea if another comment already said this, but as a mythology nerd I have to share it): in the Odyssey he is actually at fault for what happens. Odysseus and his men find Polyphemus' cave, and they decide to wait because they are curious about who would live in such a huge cave surrounded by sheeps. When Polyphemus arrives he invites them to stay and offers them food, but he breaks the Xenia (the Greek custom of hospitality) by blocking the entrance to the cave with a massive boulder and eating two of Odysseus men, saying that he'll keep the others for "later". Appealing to Poluphemus' pride (he boosted that he was more powerful than Zeus since he was the son of Poseidon and the nymph Toosa) Odysseus offers him some undiluted strong wine explaining that it's way too strong for mortals so they have to mix it with water, but it shouldn't be problem for somebody as powerful and strong as Polyphemus. He drinks the wine and, drunk, asks Odysseus for his name so he can give him a proper gift in return, and the whole "Nobody" affair happens including the "I'll eat you last. After that, it goes like the musical shows with the other cyclops, but Odysseus and his men have to wait until the next morning to sneak out of the cave, taking advantage of Polyphemus letting the sheeps out to graze. (They have to tie themselves under the sheeps because Polyphemus pets them to make sure only them come out, it's actually really funny) Of course Odysseus still reveals his actual name as he sails off, because if he didn't the whole mess with Poseidon wouldn't happen 😂

No, Polyphemus was the runt of the litter and was practically bullied so he found solace in the sheep he was supposed to guard. They were his only friends when he was ostracized by his brothers. That's one of the reasons why many in the fandom think he's child like. He was lonely so the sheep were his friends and that why he reacted so badly to Ody. Like a child being angry at the beast that killed his pet and wanting revenge.

In most translations of Homer's Odyssey Polyphemus is described as the greatest of the Cyclopes (Zeus described him that way in the translation I read). The Cyclopes as a whole just stay separate from each other and don't care for each other much.

Remember that Odysseus didn't actually know the sheep were the cyclop's friends. He kinda just assumed he can take them and he did try to "repent" while also playing it safe in case the cyclops still didn't forgive the mistake. Remember Them is especially painful if you remember that, in Ancient Greece, if you don't get a proper burial, including a coin for crossing the river in the Underworld, you kind of just ... wander endlessly. So any of the soldiers that died to the cyclops or any other tragedy that happens in the Odyssey are kinda doomed for all of eternity. Athena actually did many heroes quite a few solids in the myths and legends and she had a considerably "close" relationship with Odysseus, both in EPIC and "canon". She could, of course, also be extremely petty towards anyone she thought crossed her and delivered quite a few brutal punishments. Just A Man is a theme that haunts EPIC alongside Open Arms, Underworld and Full Speed Ahead.

Even then Oddy had no choice after the cyclops decided to kill them all, no one would take beeing killed lying down.

From his perspective, a bunch of ants broke into his house, killed one of his pets(in this version the sheep are definitely friends, Oddy even confirms this in Monster) and then offered wine in exchange, (not as an apology, we all know Oddy never apologizes even if his life depends on it) so he's simply stepping on them. We fell for the crew because we are also humans, but he has no reason to feel for them.

I mean to each their own in terms of interpretation but I wouldn't necessarily say Polyphemus was in the right to attempt to kill the six hundred men. Sure, Odysseus killed Polyphemus's favorite sheep or whatever but he tried to make amends and broker a deal which was accepted when Polyphemus drank the wine, only for him to break it immediately after. By that right Xenia, a very sacred ancient Greek tradition of showing hospitality to guests (one that Zeus created, I believe, as any guest had the potential to be a god in disguise) was broken. By then, all bets would've been off.

Incase you want to feel worst for Polyphemus, he was a child and was neglected by the other cyclops', the sheep were his only friends and looking at this situation from a child's eyes it makes more sense why Polyphemus thought this was fair, killing them because they killed his friend.

This My Goodbye animatic is really good love any animatic when it comes to Epic tho lol, but I wish you would have reacted to the mircsy one!! I feel like it shows a different perspective on how Athena feels about the goodbye and it just hits you in the feels that much more in my opinion if you haven’t watched it yet I highly recommend it! 😭

Each character has their unique instruments. Polites is kalimba(i think), Eurylochus is the crew(as he is the sort of representative of them), and Odysseus has guitar. And specifically whenever he is doing something clever, an electric guitar plays.

So lyrics wise, you can definitely feel the guilt and pain starting to seep into Odysseus more in this saga as he is just like look we do what we gotta do, we'll get home. I'm just ready to go home. And then with Polites death, it was like the last straw. Like for his friend, he tried to greet the world with open arms but he is just a man and he is trying to get home. And the cyclops gets blinded, they leave the cave and they pass Polites and Ody is like no more bloodshed. But this act of mercy, remember who gave it to you. And Athena turning her back on him, again just lost his friend, now losing his goddess "friend" he's like, man whatever. Fuck all this let's just go. (Call back to end of Open Arms)

Always awesome to see more people reacting to Epic! Just so you know a lot of animatics were made before songs were fully released, and typically certain animatic artists did certain songs, while no particular artist did ALL the songs. On top of that, sometimes Animatic Artists connected their Animatics together, especially when one song ran directly into another. I created a playlist on my account, a locked in one for Act 1, and a still updating one for Act 2, to try and make it easier for Reactors to make sure to react to the songs in order with animatics of full songs, and keep track of connected Animatics, if that would interest you. i am pretty sure somebody told you that already, but every character in epic has their own instrument that (usually, not always) represents them it can be as straightforward as Odesseus' guitar - both electric and acoustic, violas for Penelope and piano for Athena but it can also be a bit more complex like the choir that backs Eurilocus is his 'instrument', as he is seen as the voice of the crew other gods usually also have more of synthy sound to them, to separate them further from mortals it's not 100% when you hear piano that it's Athena, but most of the time it is her (same applies to other characters too, usually we know it's them by combo of their instrument + their motif) it's also kinda fun to try and guess the new characters signature instruments along the way ;p oh, and i will just like to point out that Polites is represented by a mallet remember that going into act two later 🚬👀

I love Athena's character development in the newly released songs, it's so cool. Also I can't wait for the reaction to the Underworld Saga (although Ocean saga and than Circe saga are before it) I predict Weeby is going to cry like I did when I first heard a, ahem, specific part of a certain song. I also love how Polites death continues to effect Odysseus throughout the rest of Epic. Listen out for Polites tune. Jorge loves to sneakilt use reoccuring tunes.

Funny you should compare Odysseus' final speech to the Cylops to doxing... I've commented on many-a KZbin video about how good Wolfy's animatic for 'My Goodbye' is...and I'm not gonna stop now! It comes down to two frames, that's it. When Odysseus says he saw Athena as a friend, there's the most subtle shift in her face, like how despite being the wisest and smartest of the gods, it never occurred to her that that was even an option, and you feel the weight on her shoulders as she now has to reckon for the fact she isn't losing just a student or a champion, but a companion too. Uggh, it's brilliant.

Gods of greek and other mythology can care about mortals but it's different because a immortal can't show love in the way someone mortal can, it's like when the love their kid so they offer them immortality after the complete a important world quest, that's their love while mortal love is more like "I love you and will protect you even if I DIE(something gods can't do) in the process", I would have to assume similar for love in terms of friendship so even if Athena says no she was not looking for a friend she still gained one and showed her love in the way that god most likely would for a friend, it's most likely like a cultural barrier execpt it's mortal and immortal
