I have a masters degree in evolutionary biology. Parrots are extremely complex in their social needs, activity needs, etc. The kind of social relationships they build are so complex and important. Much of this is due to their incredible longevity in life spans and level of intelligence. I love seeing your work, you absolutely get it about their needs. They require much more care, time and interactions/activities than any other kind of pet.

Oh my goodness you’re so lucky. I’ve wanted an African Grey for 20 years or a Macaw and never been able to afford one and I’d love to take in a rescue or an unwanted pet. I love working with birds. I hope you know how lucky you really are. Here in the U.K. they are around £1,600 which is around $2000 so they are just too expensive for me. Way out of my price bracket. Saved up the money once and my car engine blew up so I had to spend it on a new engine. Took me about 2 years to scrimp and save only for my hopes to be dashed. I’ve still got the cage and equipment and stands for one because I live in hope my good fortunes will come one day.

OMG I TOTALLY KNOW LAURA!!!💜💜💜💜 I thought I recognized the name Bean & it being an African grey. Which I also know that Bean was a VERY loved bird of Laura's, so it breaks my heart to see what she must of been going through!💔 At least I know Bean was in good hands.... I actually bought my very tiny, baby timneh african grey from her back when she use to be in that sorta business.🦜 Also for years after too, she was a great woman/friend that was always there to help when I was having parrot worries & constant questions etc. as it was all new for me back then!💜Then I also found out that I too had Lyme's as well. Anyways, Praying for her and her lil family & I hope she's doing much better by now too!?(Guess I better check on her myself.) She's got some pretty amazing parents too I remember! 💜🙏🏼 BTW I just adopted a neglected 35 year old African grey from a woman I know up in Sandpoint. Sooo, it's been an interesting 24 hrs so far lol!🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🧏🏼♀️ Wish me luck... I'm also ordering food & some other stuff on your guys website right now tooo! Still searching for the perfect cage for her too...Oh and you'll be happy to know that I didn't get her wings clipped either..🥰

First thing you need to know about an African Grey (or any pet) you must let the bird choose YOU you'll know if they like you or dont like you when you first meet each other..they are drawn to you like they know you as other greys wont like when they want to bite when hold out your hand..so shop around til you find the bird that loves you..and make sure your kids understand it..unhappy parrots will start picking their feathers off..

Absolutely LOVE watching your videos. Y’all give so much insight to caring for the birds. What’s funny is I don’t even have a bird 😆 I’d love to have one but I’m so nervous that I wouldn’t train correctly and would cause him/her to have bad habits. We also have 3 Labradors that are trained for duck hunting so I am scared they would not understand a pet bird. They are trained to hear a shot, watch to see if a bird falls and then with hand signals they will go out and fetch the ducks. Since they are trained what do you all think? Would it be safe to have a pet bird?
@spiritmatter15533 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t risk having a pet bird with your Labs around. Is there anyplace near you that would allow you to volunteer so you could be with birds in a place that’s safe for them?
@guyoelmatta3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say. It's how you introduce them to the bird. I inherited an african grey a couple years after getting my dog and introduced them through the cage and made progress VERY slowly. After that I'd hold my bird at a safe height and let my dog sniff it and over time closed the distance based off both their body language. Id also put the bird on the counter, play or pet her for a couple minutes, then switch to the dog and do the same to give them the idea that we're all doing the same stuff together. It did take a while (a lil over half a year) but now I can place the bird on the ground and the dog would just sniff her to see what's up and let her be. Bird used to get uncomfortable with that, but eventually caught on that she isn't trying to eat her and stopped worrying about it, now she hardly even acknowledges when she does that. Even with all this progress however, when they are together I make sure to keep my eye out on them. One thing is all animals are different. Some dogs' instinct are too overwhelming and it'll just see a target to get. I figure the best way to see how your dogs act is to take them to a pet shop, take em to where the birds are and see if they go wild or are whatever about it. If they clearly see the birds but dont get buck wild you may be able to introduce them but it is a slow dedicated process like anything related to birds.

First she quit eating the peanuts, which used to be her favorite. This time when I ordered her food, the sunflower seeds are between 2-3 inches long. I'm wondering if they are buying GMO food. She won't eat fresh fruits or veggies. She likes oatmeal for breakfast and I give her blueberrie muffins or banana nut bread. Any ideas please. Thank you 🙏
