heading up to Seattle tomorrow. I voted for Wild Horses. This will be my 6th time seeing them dating back to The Urban Jungle World Tour.... not going to hide my sadness at seeing them without Charlie. Steve Jordan is a great drummer but Charlie, Mick, Ronnie, and Keith were such a juggernaut for so long

Very good insight into the tour, I was at the Jazzfest show and it was AWESOME, but because they embraced New Orleans with Queen Irma and Dopsie Rubin. The 5pm start was totally different for a Stones show but it worked - Mick was having an absolute ball. I figured the band would get tighter with each show, it’s very cool to hear about this. Nice reporting, please keep us posted! Btw how did u get this awesome gig?? Going to every show? Geez lucky!

Agree with you 100%. Love your honesty analyzing Keith’s ascension. Mess It Up improved a lot! The pace is getting on point. To be fair, Stones alway began slowly. I think some of us big fans are a little bit afraid that they aren’t capable of evolve during a tour given the age. They are definitely back! God bless them! Thank you!

Wonderful overview! I've certainly been impressed by the videos. One criticism from some people has been the removal of 'Out Of Time': I'm a Brit, and here in the UK the song is a Rock-Pop standard that is played on oldies radio all the time via Chris Farlowe's 1966 chart-topper, but could it just be a little too obscure for many American fans? I'm still hoping for 'Mother's Little Helper' though!

Keef was fantastic in Vegas. They all were. Compared to 2021 they were more free. Settled in the drummer's chair, Steve has become a natural with them. Also we all were coming out of covid then while now we can all rock out like we should be. And Gimme Shelter has great life with the new singer Chanel Haynes. I saw fans from boomers in walkers to girls in their 20s. I loved it!

Big thanks for chronicling the tour!! I don't have a musical ear. Aside from the obvious Keith riffing, I can't tell whose playing what, although over the years I did pick up on some of the really deft Charlie drum fills. As long as I have a good sound system, Stones have always sounded great! Old stuff, new stuff. Doesn't matter. I'd like to hear more new stuff, like 8 new songs per show, not three. Some Girls Live Texas, there's 8 new SG's songs on that show. I say hammer the new stuff. Get it out there!

Monkey Man really did sound fantastic in that clip…Guitars were loud and excellent and Steve Jordan was really grooving. Speaking of INTROS to songs they do. I have always wondered why in all the years of doing JUMPING JACK FLASH they have never tried to do the original intro to it like the original version starts! Its really a cool intro on the original record…they always just start hammering the riff live..even back in 1969.
@DogTrekker

I think Keith said it was Brian who came up with the intro on the studio version. Maybe another way of erasing him from the band history? Poor Brian seldom gets his due. 😒

I agree, they're playing better as the shows go on. My initial dismay was out of concern, they've been such a staple of life that any change seems magnified 100X. Keith has 2 decades on Vince Neil and represents himself far, far, better than Vince. Which is pretty amazing for being 80.

Bumber the timing of things didn't allow me to get tickets for this tour... I love that they are out there again though. Its great to hear them doing She's So Cold proper in standard, and Keith letting go of trying to use the open g accent parts from the studio version as his main rhythm part that he did in '81. It pumps and grooves so much better this way, though I love the other versions of this song over the year as well. :)

I saw a clip where Mick was playing guitar on Angry. He wasn't for the first couple of shows. I'm assuming that means he wasn't happy with Keith's playing on the song. Keith does seem to play with less enthusiasm on "Mick songs." Also, I know the crew mixes the levels real time, which is a appreciated but some of these clips makes it sound very drastic. Is that just a KZbin thing or is it that drastic in person? Thanks for the reviews. Glad to hear Keith is getting the Mojo back. The clips of Keith from the first couple of shows didn't look so good.

@@HangFireStonesPodcast LOL. Yes, I think everyone is painfully aware of Mick's preference to play on his songs since FF. Too me, it just muddies the beautiful weaving of Ronnie and Keith. However, on the flip side, as I said before Keith drags on Mick songs...except for a couple like "I Go Wild", so I guess I can't blame him. But I mean, c'mon. Do we really need those basic chords in the open position? I'll be in Philly. If you are there, I'd love to buy you a beer! Or two, or three or whatever...

What a great recap video! I posted this yesterday but repeat it here in case Justin appreciates it. You were right in your last video, sir! Hallelujah to that. Congrats to Justin for the thoughtfulness and generosity of his thoughts on Keith. I am one of those who has been worried about Keith's playing for some time now. All of Justin's points are valid and have given me pause. I have also seen for myself times recently when Keith shows enough ability to assuage some of my fears. And I also have to ask: would Darryl Jones be touring with them in 2024 if Keith simply couldn't hack it? Would Chuck Leavell? I don't believe these guys would - they would call it a day. Yet there they are, and there is Keith, clearly having fun and feeling good much of the time. I now believe he is more careful all the time because he can't quite trust the consistency of his playing on some numbers in particular - he may be ok, or he may get a bit unlucky and have to be covered by the rest of the band. Thanks, Justin, for this perspective.

Glendale was an off night for Keith. Not sure what you heard, but he wasn’t top of his game. Goofed a few signature riffs including intro to Tumbling Dice. Rest of the band was great, but they are still ramping upward to form. Steve Jordan is soooo good. And Jagger in unbelievable form. I’ll have what he’s having! I hope it’s just lingering COVID effects for Keith and not declining with age. Clapton had to deal with that too. I think the Stones will have a few tremendous nights before this tour is over and I wish Keith the speediest recovery.

@@captainkirk70 I've always found it a bit too simplistic for the Stones, and more the kind of thing suited to Kiss or AC/DC (great bands in their own way of course). The Stones have always been a bit more than just "ROCK"!

The first few shows I thought Keith looked 80. Not a horrible 80, just .... 80. These clips and others I have seen he looks like he did 20 years ago. Seems like most tours (As you said), they just need to get revved up. They are not really a practice room band, they need to get out there and get going for it all to come together. Except Mick .... he moves like someone in his 40s

Loved the Houston opening night, even with the (few) slips! Keith didn’t move much, though his playing was solid (he did fuck up the opening Start Me Up). Seems he’s looser physically, yet a little tighter playing now. Historically this is the Stones…loose & loaded, tight & sober, sometimes in the same show! They’re a true rock n roll band, by the groove & feel. It’s why, in their senior years, they still fill up stadiums!

The Stones always come out fighting when people think they are done. Dinosaurs? Some Girls. 18 years between albums ? Hackney Diamonds. Seven straight decades top ten album. Only when they are gone will people understand their genuis of songwriting and surviving in a business where most 'legends' have 10 - 15 great songs. Stones 150.

Com on.... 1969 - 1974 were the only tip top years, the rest has been Ronnie botching Mick Taylor’s solos and guitar part... and the band going through the motions... having seen the Stones many times, this looks like a ‘ going through the motions payday’ that we’ve experienced over the past forty plus years... The new album sounds like a Jagger solo album with no vibe or that old school Stones Roll... ( it’s the usual bollocks of getting the next kid producer on the block to do the job by pro- tooling the life out of everything) why do these acts continue to trash their own legacy... just another fan boy channel woke review!
