I'm a 62-year old teacher, and I just retired at the end of August. Love watching your videos as they bring back sweet memories of when I started teaching (40 years ago). You will have a great school year, just keep doing what you're doing 💗

Gotta get yourself a hat or sunglasses or something else special to put on during small groups so they know you can't be bothered. I wear a special bandana and if my kinders come up to me during groups I point to it and they silently walk back to their spots! Works like a charm.

Sorry you are dealing with this difficult student. Next year will be better. Do you have a relationship with other teachers at your school, can you vent to them? Have you talked to his teacher from last year? Maybe they can give you some insight. Hang in there, you’re doing great 😊☺️

I stopped sending kids to the office because they never did anything anyway. It just made things worst. i had a kid who was SO rude...and the best thing i did was stop arguing with them. Just tell them what it was, and let them argue with themselves. It's super hard tho, because your automatic response is to talk them down. But that doesn't work.

I would do a class reward or a 2 min dance party at the end of the day, but I would let them know that everyone has to participate and be good throughout the day, and if someone isn’t behaving like they are supposed to then I would let them know that they couldn’t do it. Making the student understand that they are working as a team and that their are consequences that effect others because of their negative and positive actions “_____ didn’t follow the rules today which means that we all cannot have a dance party! But if we all do great tomorrow then we can!”

I taught 3rd grade last year and something that really helped my kids (and myself) during centers was keeping them as consistent as possible. They always had the same writing center: I used Michelle Ferre's Writing prompt binder, that way the kids always have something new to write about and the prompts go along with the holidays/seasons, there are also prompts that are more fun like "make a map of this, or write a Christmas list, etc. After explaining what to do a few times, they knew what was expected every-time. Then I had a word work station, At this station I had copies of the weekly spelling words and various materials (letter beads, play-doh, etch-a-sketch, scrabble pieces, white boards, smelly markers, bingo daubers, letter stamps, etc). Their job was to practice their spelling words in whichever way they wanted. I think we underestimate how much 8-9 year olds still enjoy these types of hands-on activities. They also never got board because they had so many mediums to choose from but the only weekly prep for me was to place the new spelling lists out. Then I would typically have a group reading to self or a "skill practice" center where they would practice new grammar/comprehension/vocab skills and I would rotate those 2 out every other week. The 4th group would work on guided reading/book studies with me. I don't know if any of this will work for you but I thought it was worth a share when you mentioned having too many computer centers. You're awesome and I look forward to your vlogs every week!

@@annasoph8967 haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought it was strange. I don't know if it's the curriculum or if its just the teacher expecting too much out of her students. Either way it definitely is advanced stuff

@@Brooke_b_ it is introduced in third grade, but students are not expected to “master” the concept until much later. Much of the content area standards are built upon each year.
