About schizophrenia as a brain disorder: I have a master's degree in clinical psychology and there was a strong push when I was in school to reevaluate schizophrenia. We watched several videos, had lectures, read papers from psychiatrists and researchers who strongly believe that schizophrenia is an organic brain disease, not a mental illness. To someone who is not living with schizophrenia or the friend/parent/advocate of someone with schizophrenia or who is not a mental health professional, this might not seem like a big deal. However, it could make a huge difference for people with schizophrenia, especially in the United States where we are all at the mercy of for-profit medical insurance companies. Medical problems have better coverage, better support, more research and more public understanding and empathy than do mental illnesses. I've been out of school for a couple of decades and am not up on the current research about reclassifying schizophrenia in the US. I hope some progress has been made.

@@Kimberly_Viktoria There is a very old, black and white, video, from the 50s I think, taken by a psychiatrist of a patient who was institutionalized for schizophrenia. He was researching schizophrenia as an organic brain disease and he demonstrated in this patient that the symptoms of schizophrenia were brought on by eating wheat products. If I'm remembering correctly, they filmed the patient eating breakfast porridge over several weeks. The days the porridge was made with wheat, the patient suffered from symptoms of schizophrenia. I cannot remember the psychiatrist's name or any details, but that video might be available somewhere. This information printed itself deeply in my brain. When I did animal rescue, careful observance and management of the diet was the first step. My son had ADHD and we were able to manage it through diet and behavior management without medication until he was 11. When I developed a disabling autoimmune disorder and associated medical issues, very careful management of what and when I eat makes a huge difference in how I function. I'm not saying diet modification will cure schizophrenia. What I am saying is when our bodies have a chronic illness, we need to find the type of food that makes our bodies best able to handle the burden of the chronic illness and I believe this will lead to fewer symptoms.

I have schizoaffective affective disorder and I had a brain scan, I believe it was a CAT scan, and it showed I had an abnormal distribution of grey matter.. I too, like Kimberly, had meningitis as a child.

Oh and I love your valium jar, so cool. I have a few very old medical books that I really love I think the are from the mid 1800's, so I get where your coming from old medical stuff is cool, they are just so interesting I love them they are some of my most precious things. Also, I love watching your videos we have so much in common I like to here you talk about your passions, like studying and reading and the books you read are so like my own books that I love, so thank for doing this channel even when it's hard too. I used to be a highly precocious child. When learning to read, we lived in Italy. Italian is close to Latin, so on a trip to Munich Germany my parents dropped me off at a bookstore where I could read books I saw. It was always medical books I was drawn to. Most of them were cancer books at that time.

Kimberly, congratulations on your solo trip to Skåra. The food you bought for your weekly groceries reminded me of a Norwegian cooking show I watched once. It was set in Winter, and they explained that ancient Norwegians probably survived off of eating reindeer meet, creme, milk, and lingonberries during the cold months. Knowing what I know about nutrition, this is probably exactly what you need to survive the cold climates during the Winter. Schizophrenia, as far as I am aware, seems to arise when extreme adversity is faced in some people during childhood and/or early adulthood. I have also heard that Schizophrenia should not be categorized as a single brain disorder, but is a set of 6 or more separate brain disorders, in which a person diagnosed may have one or more of these. As someone who has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia since age 16, I completely agree with the idea that it is a brain disorder. It is much more about the physical wiring of the brain as opposed to just a chemical imbalance, as far as I have experienced. Thank you for making a vlog about Schizophrenia and your life. People need to see more things like this on KZbin. And, I am so glad you seem to be doing better. Your 20s are a really hard time for most people, not just those of us with mental illness. Keep on sharing more content!

thank you! I didnt know that schizophrenia would be a set of 6 brain disorders if re-categorized. Also lingonberries are big thing here in sweden and the nordic countries overall. the "famous" swedish meatballs are always severed with lingonberryjam here. it's delicious and many forage their own in the late summer/early fall. thank you for your comment and support! 🥰

My nurse said to me that it's a brain illness I have. It made sense to me as it feels like illness and not just psychological issue. I also have pen for my iPad. Need to try drawing with it :)

That’s weird, just yesterday I went to Varnhem by bus, on a trip, and passed that bussstop you filmed in the video. I live in Gothenburg and never been there before. Sometimes the world feel so small. Glad you enjoyed your trip! So did I, little did I know Varnhem is so beautiful… loved the old monestarychurch and the nature surrounding it 🥰 Have you been there?

Hi Kimberly! Yes, its me again, hope my posts to you dont get on your nerves! But I just love to see you and whats going on in your life. I wont comment on everything you did like I usually do, I get on my own nerves. I keep judging myself and one of my issues Im tyring to overcome is always thinking that I irritate people and nobody cares about me. Childhood trauma. But yeah, I loved the thrift shop and cafe, and your talk on schizophrenia as a brain disorder makes complete sense! Have a great week! thanks for sharing again. Hugs from Mary Ann . . . . 🤗❤💛💙

I'm so happy your trip went well! I hope went you are having an anxious or down time the memory will give you hope for a better day. Did I miss you trying the granola? I want to make some granola. It's too expensive to buy good granola and the more affordable granola has too much sugar for my taste. How was the peanut butter granola? I love peanut butter granola bars! 😋
@Kimberly_Viktoria
@Kimberly_Viktoria 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! I did try the granola but didnt include it in the vlog but it was delicious. And yes, granola can be very expensive. This recipe was very easy though, I only used oats, hazelnuts, flaxseeds, pumpkinseeds, coconut chips and then used peanut butter, a small about of honey and some warm water and mixed everything. Then I just had it in the oven for 20 minutes in 150C° (celsius!) 💚
